Wheelersburg Pirates 2009 Season
Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2009 Season
I have a question for any burg person in the know.... with all the new schools and upgrades, why did you guys not add a better sound system at your football stadium? You can hear nothing on that old system. Was money the obvious problem? I would consider the poor sound system the only thing holding your facility back from being a nice place to play at. I am serious...if anyone knows an answer to this question please send back an answer.

Hey no reason to get lippy, i'm sure that they are aware that the sound system is terrible, my guess is that there will be a new one soon....btw i have a beef with your stadium too, it's like its missing something....like maybe 27 soc championships and a state title.... jp

With most of the money for the new school coming from the state I would say that they wouldn't agree with using their money for upgrading a sports facility. the money for that would more than likely have to come from the athletic boosters or some where else.

I see nothing wrong with the sound system. If I am not at game I listen on my front porch or open window and I do not live that close hear it just fine.

Speed kills. Burg has lots of it. Everyone needs to adjust, it will an interesting season.
Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2009 Season
I heard from a very reliable source that St. Henry has contacted Wheelersburg about playing in week 4. Don't think Burg is interested though. They wanted Burg to go there, and Burg only has 4 home games scheduled.

St. Henry.....That'd be a long way to travel to get beat by 4 TDs or more.
Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2009 Season
I have no idea what st henry has coming back but I do know the burg returns just about everyone from a team that finished the 2008 regular season 9-1. St Henry might not be the dominant team everyone remembers, they have gone 6-4 the last 2 yrs with no playoffs. I would invite them down but I wouldn't go there.

Marion Local Maria Stein 2007 D-5 State Champ
Coldwater 2007 D-4 State Champ
Anna
Delphos St. Johns 2008 D-6 State Champ
I doubt any Southern Ohio team, not including the Cincy teams, would stay within 4 TDs of them.
If they want to come to Wheelersburg and you'll play them I wish you the best of luck, but look at what Coldwater did to Westfall who beat St. Clairsville for the regional championship in 2007. St. Henry is in this league.

Re: Wheelersburg Pirates 2009 Season
If I was the AD at Wheelersburg, I would take the St Henry game. you only get better by playing good teams. I seen St Henry's play Delphos St Johns on tv last year and they are very very good. they were young last year and lost late to the D-6 champions. but if you play and win...millions of computer points! if you lose..take whatever you can from the game and know their aren't too many schools you'll run into that is that good. from an Ironton fan... when the Tiger's played DeSales, they didn't win that often but it was an immense measuring stick of where you are with the best the state has to offer in your Division. beating Greenup will not help other than getting your second and third string players in...but your school has done so well for 30 years that most teams in the southern ohio area do not want to play you either. a catch-22 when you are good. I would like to see you all play Russell every year...good gate. quality team....or a Belfry Ky team? just an oberservation. good luck Tyler Brown from up the river in Arnton!

With the economy as it is, i am sure schools want to stay close to home. I would love to see a burg-coal grove again or maybe a burg - russell ky like the poster above said. both would be great games.

Burg did play Kenton and Coldwater on two seperate years. They lost to both, but gave both of them a good game. They lost to Kenton in OT and only lost to Colwater by a little bit.
When you can't get some of the local teams to play you have to look elsewhere, even if it means having to travel somehwere. It is not a bad deal as long as you do a home and home series.
