Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
In 2010 Jackson will be in a different league, the SEOAL is falling apart with everyone leaving so Jackson is deciding if they should go to the SOC or the TVC.

Can anyone tell me if there is an actual league champion in the TVC? and if so, how do they determine one?

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
You are right there are other sports than football. However, football is the only team sport that doesn't allow everyone into the playoffs. That is why football is such a huge issue when a team switches leagues especially when they have tradition and their fans expect to see them in the playoffs. If the TVC increased to 7 league games Jackson would have to schedule some non-conference powerhouse teams in their non-league just so they can get some points....That is if they beat them... But in this time in our economy its all about trying to cut costs and save. That is why the TVC makes sense for Jackson and why it doesn't.

The divisions are basicly ran as seperate leagues. In some sports, not every Hocking school fields a team, so the few who have a particular sport compete with the Ohio schools. Example - in the Hocking, only Waterford and Trimble have wrestling so the two schools compete with the 7 Ohio schools for a nine team league tournament. Cross Country is another example of where there is no Hocking champion because not all Hocking schools have Cross Country.
But for the big guys........football, boys/girls basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, and golf - they are basicly ran as seperate leagues. I can't remember if Track and Field crowns a division champion for the Hocking or if they are lumped in with the Ohio schools.

Warren and Marietta are to far away. Jackson, Athens and VC are close to each other. Even Meigs isn't too bad, but Marietta and Warren take way too long to get to. Alexander, Wellston, Nelsonville-York, VC, Wellston, Athens and Jackson would be a perfect league. It would be nice to see Belpre move out of the TVC Ohio, too. Travel would never be too bad and road teams would bring good crowds.

Why would it be nicw to see Belpre move out of the TVC Ohio?? Whatever happens happens, but I just don't see it happenning. I have been wrong many times though so I guess we will know soon enough.

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
You know whats really funny??????
A while back a bunch of people from Jackson were on here saying how they would never leave the SEAOL because tradition was to important. They had several reasons and excuses as to why the SEOAL was so much better than any other leage in the area. They were saying that they survived with 4 or 5 teams before and they would do it again.
Now look what is happening!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much for the mighty SEOAL!!!!!!
I don't think its a good idea but if they do join the leage I will be one of the first to welcome them. I think this hole idea of expanding and splitting into 3 divisions is not a good idea. Expansion is what has put the SEOAL into trouble so the answer is to expand the TVC into 3 divisions?(Doesn't make sense to me) People can use all of the reasons they used for the expansion of the SEOAL as good reasons but it hasn't worked out so some one give me a better argument. I do think it would be nice to add a school to the Hocking division, but not at the expence of moving a team . I am assumming people would want Belpre to move. This is always a sensitive issue and I hope the schools in the TVC think this through before voting.

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
If this happens, your basically pushing the smaller schools out. Regardless of how good the Buckeyes
have been lately, you eventually just can't compete with the big boys every year.
One reason Logan is off NY's schedule. I don't see why the three divisions wouldn't work.
All of the schools are pretty close to each other. Of course you could have games with the other divisions, but they would not have any outcome on the champion. The TVC already has 2 divisions (Ohio and Hocking) I'm sure they could come up with another one!

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
Three divisions would work. Maybe for a couple years, we have an 8 team TVC OHIO. However, if other neighboring schools decide to join the TVC, there would be more than enough schools to have three divisions. Remember last year, Warren applied for TVC admission but didn't have enough votes. Maybe in a scenerio where three divisions were created, Warren would have enough votes to be admitted into the TVC.
There is a big difference between divisions in the TVC and the SEOAL. The TVC has schools all in the same area. Whereas, the SEOAL expansion saw schools in the entire southeast quadrant added that were seperated from each other by over two hours in some cases. This would not be the case with the TVC. The schools are all close together, and the fans travel well to neighboring districts, which increases revenues for member schools.
Another point to consider....the TVC is now much larger than it used to be. Therefore, if a couple schools vote against expansion, there will now still be enough votes to add a team. It no longer has to be unanimous or only one no vote for a team to be admitted because the numbers have grown. Since the early 90's, four teams have been added to either the Ohio or Hocking.
The T in TVC stands for TRI - TRI means three! Originally, it stood for the three river valleys - Ohio, Hocking, and Muskingum - but it could also stand for three divisions as well.

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
NY and Jackson have not played each other in football since 1994. I remember that game in Jackson like it was yesturday. The stadium was PACKED!!!!! It was the final game of the regular season. NY was 9-0 and Jackson was 8-1, with their one loss being to Logan (whom NY defeated that year). NY defeated Jackson and went on the following week to defeat Coshocton in the D IV Regional Semifinals and then lost to Wheelersburg in the Regional Finals.
There wasn't an empty seat in the house in Jackson that night! It was billed as the Super Bowl of Southeastern Ohio since it fell on the final week of the season!

Jackson lost to Nelsonville-York in 1994. They lost to Ironton in 1995.

When Ironton ( a three time unfaithful SEOAL partner), and Portsmouth leave the SEOAL, GAHS will be the smallest school remaining, and I sincerely hope that we hold on as long as our other faithful partners remain faithful.
When some of you make fun of the SEOAL, you are making fun of a league perhaps YOUR school left because they could not compete, and rather than pony up they simply looked for smaller pastures. Can you say N-Y, Meigs, Athens, Wellston, Waverly, Point, River Valley, etc boys and girls?
Zanesville was NEVER committed to this league from day one, and the jury is still out on Chillicothe.
Rumors about Marietta and Warren persist as they have for years, but they have remained faithful thus far for almost 25 years. Hindsight is always 20/20 but in looking back personally I wish we had never expanded. At the very least it would have taken away the travel excuses from the extreme south and north schools, and excuses are all they are because everyone knew going in how far it is to these schools and what kind of commitment in terms of miles and weeknight games would be required. The $4 gallon gas prices couldnt be anticipated, but then they have been under $2 for several months now.
Why is it that some people act like the SEOAL is the greatest thing going. Dear god its just a leage thats all. I am glad it has been around for so long and I am glad that there are people and schools who would rather die than change leages. It doesn't matter why a school wants to leave a leage. They can if they want to. Some people act like Athens, ZHS, IHS, and any other school who has left or may be leaving stole the top secret plans on there way out the door. Dear god your not married to these schools. If a school is voted in and they leave all well. Get over it. Highschool football will go on with or without the SEOAL. I don't think it is going anywhere but just in case every one should know that the world will not end.
QUIT BEATING A DEAD HORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
They will be looking to another league now. I was told by the Pricipal that they were not voted in to the TVC yesterday. I imagine they will be looking to another league in their area. But they did say that the SEOAL will be defunked in a couple of years.

The new TVC!
Jackson
Athens
Vinton County
Meigs
Alexander
Wellston
Nelsonville-York
Belpre
Federal Hocking
Trimble
Lose the other Hocking teams. This split division crap is stupid. They are really two league's. Unless you have a championship game between the 2, whats the point.

So just toss the little schools like Southern.
That makes a lot of sense.

Re: Is Jackson going to the TVC Ohio?
Vote Jackson and Portsmouth into the SOC and have the best conference in Southern Ohio.
