I hate to burst your bubble ,but Warren didnt handle Wellston. It was pretty even in fact the first teams only found the end zone once each . Wellston had two Int's , Warren one.
That being said Warren looks to be in good shape ,nice kids looks like they had been in the weightroom .There schedule is brutle though. They better win some non-league games because I dont think they will compete with the likes of Logan, Ironton,Chillicothe.I liked their coaching staff they seem to be doing a good job.
Good luck to the Warriors this season !

Like I said, I wasn't at the Wellston 7on7, but your assessment differs from everyone I spoke with. The Wellston coaches know some of our folks, and they weren't happy with the way things went. I'll just agree to agree with the folks that I talked to and you can agree to disagree with them (or something like that).

Our kids have been in the weight room. They do have a brutal schedule, but we're hoping to win some non-league games and some league games.

Good luck to your boys as well.

I was on the field with the Wellston coaches . They were not dissapointed at all thought our kids did alright . Beleive what you want ,but I had the best seat in the house.I help the staff at Wellston ,so whoever told you the coaches wasnt happy didnt talk to them. I walked off the field with your Principle for youre High School and youre Head coach . All seemed to be satisfied with what occcured. They even talked about future events between the two schools.

Camp starts tomorrow, then 2-a-days begin next week. It's football time in Barlow!!

Lots and lots of excitement about this year's team. It will be good to see the linemen working out after observing the backs and ends many times in 7on7.

It's going to be a good year!

Look for the Warriors to improve on last years record (4-6) to 6-4 in a very tough schedule/conference.

Of course, I always root for them to finish the season with a sparkling 9 game winning streak. ;-)

I don't think they can go 6-4 with the schedule they have and what I have seen in 7on7's.

Explain:

@ BELPRE - This will be a win for the Warriors in a close one. (1-0)
@ MORGAN - This will also be a win for the Warriors, Morgan just doesn't have much to work with right now. (2-0)
@ Parkersburg South - If the 7on7 at Marietta are any indication, South is much to athletic for the Warriors to deal with. (2-1)
MARIETTA - This will be another good one in the series. With home field they will make it interesting, but too much Perry Wheeler and the Tigers will pull it out wtih the defense at the end of the game. (2-2)
Point Pleasant - Even without Wisonga, they are very physical and return a good amount from a playoff football team. The running game will grind on the Warriors and a late touchdown will pull it out for the Big Blacks. (2-3)
@ MEIGS - Win for the Warrios to even their record. (3-3)
@ PORTSMOUTH - This is a pivotal game, if the Warriors win this (which I think they will, but could go either way) They might be able to get one of the last two. (4-3)
LOGAN - Like most of the rest of the SEOAL, no chance, Logan is to loaded. (before you bash me, my Tigers have no chance either) (4-4)
CHILLICOTHE - Solid nucleus returning from last years playoff team, too much for the Warriors. (4-5)
IRONTON - ditto. (4-6)

I think Warren will be much improved, but the schedule is just too much. The Warriors will be much closer to winning games, but just not quit there yet.

Best of Luck, for Washington County's sake, I hope you do go 6-4 (as long as one of the 6 is not the Tigers).

Barry, thanks for your "unbiased" projections for Warren's season. Of course, we'll see how accurate they are as the season unfolds. A couple comments . . . You may be putting too much emphasis on the 7on7s. Things will be very different with a line (or lack thereof) and contact. South was one of the top rushing teams in WV last year and Warren held them to negative yards rushing. One of South's coaches told me that the receivers look great in 7on7, but they don't like to get hit. Warren's defense will be better this year, and returns both LBs. Warren will hit people this year.

Chillicothe lost almost everything. They will be good, because they are Chillicothe, but they have a ton to prove this year. Lots of players will have to step-up for them to be as good as they were last year.

Folks are saying the Portsmouth will be tough despite losing the D-1 linemen because they return so many players that were young last year. You have Warren beating Portsmouth (at Portsmouth) but losing to your Tigers in Barlow . . . hmmm.

It will be fun to watch the Marietta/Warren game this year. It's going to be a smash mouth game. We'll just see what happens! 8)

I will say this. I truly think Warren is going to have have a winning season this year. It's time.

Warren will probably go 4 and 6
This might be a sub-500 year but I don't see the Ls being by large numbers like the past.

If Warren get get a few breaks and the D can hold late they just might go 6 and 4

Warren will not beat a good Portsmouth team this year. They started 12 sophs last year and still was a fumble late and a touchdown called back away from winning the game last year at Warren. This Portsmouth team will be very exciting to watch this year. Portsmouth by 2 scores at home in the new Coliseum.

3 games I disagree with...

I hope Belpre wins but it will be an uphill fight for the Eagles even though they lead the overall series. Warren won last year 17-10. Nod to Warren in the pre-season pickings.

Parkersburg South, Warren will beat them. South may be athletic but they have their problems. The main one being even though their head coach is back, he has a ton of new asst coaches, kind of par for the course with coach Bolen. Plus, South has a hard time winning games against the Ohio teams, even in the years they are state champs. Big Bad Blue gets the win.

Point Pleasant, with Wasonga they are a playoff team in WV, without him they are not. Warren wins this matchup and bottles up anything else they have in the stable.

The last 3 games on their schedule are killers and will be marked up in the loss ledger but these games should be much closer.

JMO.

Barry, you have warren losing 2 games (to marietta and to point pleasant) via the other teams running game. If I am not mistaken, the run defense was probably the most solid thing that warren had last year, it was the pass that very much crippled them, just curious why you think it will be the run game that will affect them the most :12224

First, everyone needs to know that Coach Pifer's father is very ill. He has cancer and some other complications. Keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Camp is going well and Warren will begin 2-a-days next week with 55-60 players. That is a nice improvement over the last several years. You can't tell much until they hit, but it's a good start in terms of participation.

Our thoughts are with Coach Pifer as we know what he and his family are going through at this time, cancer is the worst thing a family can go through. Back to football, I can see Warren going 6-4 and they can do this by hitting their marks and putting a smack down on people and from what I've seen so far I think the boys are tired of getting beat on and ready to turn things around and I gotta' give some credit as warrenwarriorfan will probably agree is the boys coming up through the youth league into junior high and onto the high school team has been adding bodies to the team and giving us depth, something we've been needing.
I'm ready for Friday nights Warren fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very sorry to hear about coach Pifer's father's illness. I hope and pray things will take a turn for the better very soon.

You are right, you just never know what type of team you have until you start the contact.

the big news this week for the warrior nation is sophmore brady radabaugh has seen the light and has gone from the orange and black of belpre to the blue and white of warren. he is a big body that is very strong and could be very much used on both the offensive and defensive line. I think the biggest plus i see in warren this year as opposed to other years is the teams depth. there is competition at every position. It's exciting to see the numbers growing and the kids getting more and more excited about this season.

Warren wrapped-up 7on7s last night looking very much improved, and very good. The passing game this year will be light years ahead of where it has been recently. The QBs look great, and the receivers are catching well. Yocum caught a couple TDs last night, Venham had 1, and Pritt had 1. The JV had several too. The team was able to move the ball very well. On defense we look better as well. Pritt, Mason and Arnold all had INTs last night. There may have been more.

In camp, it's pretty neat to see the potential starters working together. Our line is, in a word, big (and strong). They will average about 250. The line has a bit of depth, and, like Ace said, competition for every position. The backs are looking great too.

Wolfe has a minor pulled groin and is sitting out for a few days to get it healed properly before practice begins.

It has been a really excellent start to the season.

2-a-days start Monday.

I see this team being all pumped up to start season but when belpre either beats them or comes close to beating them then it will be downhill from there, i will guess 3 and 7 will b about what to expect.

And I suppose the psyche of Warrior nation is suppose to be devastated by the smack talk of a Meigs fan. As I recall, Meigs was riding high when they visited the suburbs of Barlow last year and were beaten by the Warriors. Warren visits Meigs this year . . . We'll just have to see what happens.

But you're right, unless both Belpre and Meigs have been working as hard as the Warren boys have been working this off-season (which is very doubtful) we all feel pretty good about the Warriors' chances in both these games.
