Re: waverly football 2009
I agree the more kids that play the better- but the league is going to be super strong- so it will be a tough year no matter who plays and does not play!
Re: waverly football 2009
That is very true bucki4life, the SOC will be very tough this year. No matter if you win every game or not you still hate to see talented kids not play so I'm glad some who weren't playing are back.
How'd they look last night?

Re: waverly football 2009
No doubt about it, the league will be tough from top to bottom.
Waverly has the potential to be "right in the thick of it" if everything comes together. So far so good.

Re: waverly football 2009
tigercat,
The 7-on-7 is at home.
2010,
Roback looked very accurate, he did throw a couple passes behind receivers, but it's only July. The routes, keeping in mind IDK exactly how they are suppose to ran, looked crisp to me. Kretzer made on catch in the end zone that brought to mind Creed Miller for me.
We didn't seem to match Chillicothe's speed when we were are on defense one series. I think our secondary needs to get better on coverage, but you have to remember there is no rush so ..................if we can get pressure on the QB the coverage doesn't have to be as good. That being said we did get a couple of "coverage sacks" and gave up a few as well.
It's like every other year. Waverly has the skill players that can make plays. We can score with anybody. In a track meet I like us, but the lines need to come together, if they haven't already. If our O-line can give Roback time he's deadly. And if our D-line can disrupt pass protection we can be very very good.

West will also be dangerous, but I think the key to opponents stopping the Tigers will be stopping Roback. Teams that can push him out of the pocket and make him run and have LB's and DE's that can stop him after short gains will handle Waverly's offense. On the other hand, if Roback can set in the pocket and throw, or get out of the pocket and get into the secondary or around the corner, they should really be able to score some points. But it will be much like last year and their sucess will revolve around Roback.
Okay, for real now, when a team only wins four of 10 games...didn't know that meant they were successfull. I guess thats better than only 1 or 2 winning games but humph, maybe if the tigers didn't rely only on roback, they could have had a stronger season...also, isn't his pass rate only 49% from last year....chew on that for a while.
Re: waverly football 2009
They did not rely only on Roback last season. Malone missed half the season to injury and many pass plays were called that ended in Roback running fo his life. Those ended up being a Roback run in the stats. People who were not at the games have no clue what they're talking about when they say Waverly relied on Roback only. The coaching staff knows the personel better than any of you posters who are critical of their coaching. They know what they have in Malone, Kretzer, Price, Murray, Tackett, Deweese and others so get off this, they rely only on Roback crap.
IF they can spread the ball around they will. It takes the big boys up front to block and I think that will happen this year.

Malone missed half the season??? Where'd you pull that from??? Obviously you didn't go to all the games cause that just isn't true.
Does anybody have ALL the stats for the Tigers last season???? I haven't seen them yet.

Re: waverly football 2009
This year is a traditionally "normal" year at Waverly. Skill positions are loaded with Roback, Malone, Kretzer, Price, Murray and others. The question will be can the lines "gel" and block (on offense) and get penetration on defense.
Roback is a dual threat which is advantage for Waverly and almost everyone has a year of experience under their belts.
Waverly does a kind of a rough schedule this year with games at Jackson, (Ashland) Paul Blazer, West and Burg.
