My understanding is that the JVs were supposed to play at home but due to Belpre hosting a soccer sectional game, the football game was going to be played at the other school.

I assumed this happened.

Bulldogs-62

Eagles-7

Really hate to,but I have to agree with you on this one.We really don't have things on track this year but our kids continue to work hard and give it all they have. Defensively they will struggle with Athens and it will be hard to keep them off the board.Hopefully they will keep them under that 62 points you predict. I think they will be able to put up at least 2 TDs on offense. I am hoping for an upset and will be rooting the Eagles on,but realistically can't see it happening. nevertheless GO EAGLES!!!!

true true, i would love NOTHING more than to see the eagles beat athens (except an NY win at Ironton :-D ) BTW, the 62 points didnt come from me it was a friend typing lol i dont think that will be the final but it could get ugly somewhere around there... offnese may put a couple points on the board though i dont doubt that....but again(no offense eagles) better luck next year and good luck to an injury free game. best of luck eagles from the buckeyes

there was no jv game. was supposed to be at home vs vinton, but was cancelled due to vinton not having enough players. this is what my son told me. what event did the jr's and sr's have? i have never heard of a team cancelling practice due to an "event". if nothing else, the jv team could have practiced. the season is not over yet guys!

The JV game was scheduled to be played at Belpre. Because Belpre's soccer team hosted their first round playoff game on Monday, the schools agreed last week to play the JV game at Vinton instead. Vinton then cancelled the game due to a lack of players. The "event" would be for those students who are working the polls on election day for credit in government class needed to attend a mandatory meeting at the Board of Elections being held on that day only.

Just passing on what I was told.

sorry if i came across as negative, that was certainly not the intent. i'm not sure what you're implying here. my luck has nothing to do with my son's playing time. he is on the jv team and knows he has to work hard if he wants to see the field, whether it be on monday or friday night. i'm just saying the jv team didn't have a meeting at the board of elections, and their game was cancelled. why not take the opportunity to practice, or hit the weightroom if nothing else. there are ten or more freshmen, they are going to be very important to the varsity team next year. i imagine a couple of them could start, simply due to low numbers. they comprise roughly 33% of the entire squad! why not start getting them ready now? they can't wait until next july to start working out and lifting! anyway, let's go eagles. finish the season strong!

eagledad,
I believe because of all the things that get posted on here and the school employees that monitor this stuff at belpre because they don't want people posting on here was just a jab of fun by the previous poster. I honestly believe that is all it was. Actually I am very positive that is what is was. I am sure by no means was that a personal jab at your son or you.

My sources tell me that there was a powder puff game tonight causing the "NO PRACTICE". The meetings for the poll workers for Nov3 elections was held on Monday, by the way Belpre posters write in canidate Ullman for the school board. I hate that Mister B. is moving on from the school board. Thank you Mister B. for you dedication and hard work over the years, the schools teachers students and parents will miss you.

Since u have mentioned Powder Puff! The Juniors have a 3-pete, scored over 80 points in the two games and kicked a field goal in one of them. . .Juniors over the freshman in the first game, seniors were upset in the second by the Sophmores, and Juniors over the Sophmores in the Championship. . .way to go Juniors, on a side note great coaching by E.W., T.W., & C.U. . . . .

Eagledad, you totally misunderstood my post. I don't know who you are, and in no way did I intend any ill will toward you or your son. I guess I should have said it has been my experience, in the past, that criticism by parents or relatives directed in the way of the coaching staff can affect how your player is treated.

An example of criticism could be posting on here about the team being ignored at halftime, or questioning why practice was canceled etc.

=THE ATHENS BULLDOGS (7-1) vs. THE BELPRE GOLDEN EAGLES (0-8)=
Live: From R. Basil R. Field in The Plains...with Legendary Fred Gibson on the Mic!

It has been a long time since the Athens Bulldogs have had a chance to celebrate a Football Championship. Many thought that drought would come to an end back in 2002, when the Bulldogs supported a very talented class of experienced Athletes. However, it didn't turn out that way. The next years squad was even better, supporting a couple of D1 & D2 prospects that really had the people of Athens excited! However, a couple of tough losses again spoiled this chance. So how long has it really been? 1990 to exact! That was one year after Athens Alumni Ryan Adams (2-time SEOAL POY) graduated. So how has it come full circle back around....look right at Ryan Adams...

Adams has put together one of the best coaching staffs Athens has seen in a while, and the Key has been they all have been together now for 3 years...a recent problem in previous Athens Staffs had been the constant change of coaches...and if you take a closer look, the teams with the most recent success have had coaching staffs that have stayed together...(2001-03) The Bulldogs were (18-12). Les Champlin had a staff that stayed together for 5 years, and the program was a success. One of the coaches on that staff was Ryan Adams. Adams was a RB/DB Specialty Coach and the Defensive Coordinator. Aside from some games in (2001), the '01-03 Bulldogs not only supported a Very Talented Offense, but had a Tenacious D to go along with it. Adams has taken that same fire, and has instilled it into this years Athens Bulldogs...

A Win tonight, and The Plains will be rockin' sky high. This will be a big night not only for the current Bulldogs, but for all the Alumni as well. Not to long ago, Athens fans and players expected to see football played fundamentally sound. It has been a long time coming, but Ryan Adams is a winner, he was a winner when he played, he has built winning teams in the past as an assistant, but no he has taken the next step...he has built a Winner as a Head Coach. If and when Athens wins tonight, and you happen to be there at the game, just go right over and give a huge Thank You to the Athens Coaching Staff and especially Ryan Adams...

About tonight's game...
Belpre has had a long season, a season filled with a lot of downs. The Golden Eagle have yet to fill that excitement of winning on Friday Night in 2009. This game will not be any easier for them. Why? They can most likely thank the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes for that...
Athens is angry, and they are ready to take it out on someone. They know they let one slip away last week versus NY, and they know how much it hurt to lose a game of that caliber. However, they are focused this week. They know they cannot feel sorry for themselves because of last weeks letdown, and on the flipside they are extremely fired up for a chance to bring the People of Athens a Football Championship!!!

Rain will be here by kick-off, and will slow the Athens Attack down a little, but not enough for the Golden Eagles to sneak up and get one. Look for the Athens Frontline to dictate how this game will go down. They are big, and they are ready to push Athens to their Championship. Also, look for Athens Defense to be fired up! After last week, when they were put deep in their territory several times by their offense, they held strong, but did give up a couple of scores that will only anger them.

The Key for Athens Success I believe will be in the hands and legs of #2 Shad McCollum and the Special Teams. If McCollum can set up Athens up with short fields, then this game can get out of hand very quickly.

I like Athens in this game, and I am ready for them to be TVC-Ohio Champions!

Belpre -- 0
Athens --49 Final

sorry for the misunderstanding! coaches need to understand that criticism by parents, fans etc is part of the job, even at the peewee level, lol! just kidding! i didn't mean to be overly critical, but supportive in an enthusiastic way. simply questioning why practice had been cancelled. as i said, i had never heard of that. i really do think that the young guys need to understand they have to work hard today, tomorrow, the next day etc...if they want to get this program turned back around. make now mistake, i fully support the kids, the school and the program regardless of who the coach is. while i may not always agree with some of the decisions made, i support curt. he is the coach. i believe that community / parent support is vital to the success with of the team. anyway, let's go eagles! give them dawgs everything ya got!
