Who cares about Minford or Valley.... This is the West Burg thread. There will not be more than 8 passes thrown all night at this game. That is by both teams combined.

I don't think the line is weak at all, I think their problem is agressiveness and smarts

demaniac1 wrote:What are the Burg/West scores at burg the last 8 yrs and what were the records going in?

2007 Burg 34-7
2005 Burg 14-7
2003 Burg 20-7

Sorry, used eitel. Very good for information purposes also!! Good for JOE!

2001 West 7-0
2002 West 33-13
2003 Burg 20-7
2004 Burg 28-14
2005 Burg 14-7
2006 Burg 21-0
2007 Burg 34-7
2008 West 14-7

The 2001 and 2005 games very tough fought and could of went either way...other than that Burg or West has had pretty comfortable leads

Heres an interesting thought however, even though that Burg has dominated every team in the area after the 1990 season West held the series lead 17-14...and if you take the decade of despair for West it would be 20-19 West...just a hypotetical, lol

since 1990 at home and like sider said. burg dominated not only west but the whole soc in the 90's. 36-0 in the 90's in soc play.

91: burg 44 west 6
93: burg 39 west 6
95: can't find the score
97: burg 34 west 0
99: burg 60 west 0
01: west 7 burg 0
03: burg 21 west 7
05: burg 14 west 7 (the burg retired jon etterlings jersey at this game)
07: burg 34 west 7

burg is 29-19-2 against west

Burg beat West 7-0 in 1995.
We had the ball 1st and goal on the 4 yard line with 27 seconds left and threw an INT in the end zone.
We had Aaron Hall, Jamie Conley and Justin Staggs in the backfield and threw the ball. Still question that call.

How tore up is Burg's field? It will rain next week, it always does. This will impact the game greatly. Northwest's field looked like a pig pen.

West can play with Wheelersburg. They've got to play disciplined and play hard. I'm sure the visitors side will be packed as normal to cheer them on. West doesn't have anything to loose. Give it all you got.

Burg just needs to not read into all the crap on here about a Burg blowout. Over the last few years, this game has been a very tight ballgame. It would make the Senators season if they could beat the Burg and knock them out of the playoffs.

Burg just needs to take care of business on the field and let everything else happen with the playoffs. The loss to Minford has made it an uphill climb for them since that loss.

Incognito What does that mean, -( Senators or Siders what ever they call themselves).
It was a cheer word for getting teams fired up, gave them a little personality. All good
programs have it, The Burg, Go Bucks, guess you are not smart enough to come up
with a more smarta__ remark than that.

It means nobody knows if they are siders or senators!!
I mean officially they are the senators, but why siders?
Sciotoville isn't the East Siders. They are the Tartans!!
Doesn't sound like a personality trait to me. Burg and Bucks are shortened nicknames
because that is in their name! Siders is not anywhere in the Portsmouth West Senators name.
So Siders can't be short for anything. Like the Hurricanes are the Canes. So your theory of all good programs
have nicknames, is wrong, but I guess your not smart enough to figure that out!

West Portsmouth is know as the WEST SIDE hence the name SIDERS.
Sciotoville is not known as the east side. If Sciotoville was East Portsmouth they would be known as the East Side.

Ok up till a few years ago it was Portsmouth East!! So why did they not say East siders then?? Because it isnt their name!!
Wow, you didnt think of that did you?
I know it is considered the west side, and the origin of the nick Siders came from the side in siders.
But why create your own nickname when your own school created a good one already, do you guys not like the name your school gave you? If thats the case that means you don't really believe in your school. Was the name so bad that people thought, hey what were they thinking? We are senators!! We're Siders!!

I mean we all call M*CH*G@N, TSUN, scUM weasels, A$$Holes, etc. etc. But does the school adopt any of those names? No, they stuck strong with the W&^%$rines.

Bottom line ,cause this conversation could and would go on for ever and ever, It makes absolutley no sense, but if it makes all the people of senator nation happy to be referred as sider, so be it but really doesnt make any sense!

Portsmouth East was the school name, the town is Sciotoville
We are Portsmouth West, town is West Portsmouth that is the difference.
besides SIDERS just sounds tougher than SENATORS.

Yea... Senators doesn't have the same luster as it once had. I mean with the recent crap with the economy and the current state of our govt, no one wants to have a member of the federal/state govt as a mascot.

This game will come down to the team that can run the ball consistenly. Shank and Craigmiles for the Pirates. Pendleton and Murphy for West. If West gives up big plays, it is going to be a long night on the hill in Pirate land for the Siders.

I like West's coaching staff, and think they are going in the right direction. But I think The Burg will be to much for West's young team to handle. The Burg's running backs are too good, they can break one on any given play. And it's at The Burg, always a hard place to get a win.

Good Luck to both teams!! And nobody gets hurt!!

The Burg 35
West 14

Nothing against you Siders, I just think The Burg is that good!!!!!

Proud to be a Falcon!!!

I like playing at Burg. It's a good atmosphere and the stands are close to the field.

I hope we see a big West crowd come out and support this young team and coaching staff. I'm sure we will.

As far as the mascot, from what I can gather the school was originally the Washington Senators. Washington stood for Washington township/school district. If you listen on the radio during school delays, were called Washington/Nile (school district), not Portsmouth West. Somewhere along the line we became Portsmouth West. The Senators name was kept.

I know there was talk with the new school about changing it, possibly to the Raven Rock Ravens or something, which I wasn't crazy about. But I really don't like Senators. I grew up in the last 80's-mid 90's. I'm a Sider, not a Senator. We even had Siders on our helmets. The school has made a push to only reference us as Senators, but it will never stick. I would like to see us have a mascot that we can put on clothes and flags that is a little cooler than what we have. But it probably won't happen.
