I've wanted to see an Ironton/Johnson-Central game from some time. . .
Ironton Belfry would be good, too.

Thanks, TTT, for the answer........I knew it had been quite a while.......I know in the late 90's that Ironton and Portsmouth played twice in one year.......I think it was either 1997 or 1998.......Portsmouth won at Ironton 41-13 (score?), then the Fighting Tigers travelled to Spartan Stadium later that year and won 6-3.......not sure but I thought the second game was the 9th game of the year. That loss to Ironton knocked Portsmouth out of the playoffs, because the Trojans went 7-2 that year.

They are intimidated...I know they feel that they can't win..just as russell did years ago when they got out of the OKAC but it makes you better...and you always have that chance...The OKAC was a great conference...and even if Russell couldn't beat Ironton at football...they sure had a good team when it came to the other sports..don't know why they jumped out..it was good for everyone who was in it...

Chesapeake and fairland cant win!! you could put an all star team from the ovc together and they would finish last in the seoal

Get a clue. Ironton isn't as good as they are because they're so much more talented than anyone else in the county and the area. They're the best because they have one of the best high school football coaches to ever coach the game.
Ironton gets where they are because they do the fundamentals well - blocking, tackling, protecting the football, etc - and it's been drilled into their heads. That's why over the years, many kids have come to play ball for Coach Lutz from other schools.
Now don't get me wrong, he has been blessed with many talented players, but you act like the city of Ironton is just some kind of oasis of talent right in the middle of poor ol' Lawrence County and SE Ohio.
Lutz could do the exact same thing with South Point or Rock Hill or Coal Grove if all things were the same and those communities supported their football programs like Ironton supports the football program.

BINGO....I've posted on here before about how players from OVC schools have went to Ironton and played a key role in their success.

Watching Ironton in the playoffs. They are what fuzzhead said: Big, tough, and well schooled in the game. But the talent level isn't even close to what it was in the 90's or even early 2000's, for whatever reason. I love their style of ball, and we play alot of it here at West, but to play for a State Title again, Lutz is going to have to change his offense a little. For years he made hay because his 11 was better than 99% of the teams he played, but anymore when it comes playoff time that just isn't the case. I don't mean throw the ball all over the field, but just tweak it a little. Like the beautiful TD pass they threw to the TE before halftime; why didn't they go back to that?

As far as local teams, I think they get intimidated when they play Ironton, whether they can physically compete or not. When Ironton gets out of the area in the playoffs, those kids don't know Ironton from anybody else and they play like it.

Daniel Larusso wrote:- 4 SEOAL schools
- Wheelersburg, Russell, and Ashland were on the schedule this year
- an open date
- 2 Columbus schools that will not travel well

I don't see the revenue going up as an independent, but my opinion means nothing.

My question is, are the Tigers traveling to Coumbus in 2011? If so where is the savings?

There was no need to. It was a dumb comment.
Are you trying to tell me that a team of the best players in the OVC this year couldn't have beaten Gallia Academy, Marietta, Chillicothe, or probably even Warren or Portsmouth? Portsmouth didn't exactly win impressively against South Point.
Just because Ironton doesn't dominate the SEOAL like they used to doesn't mean the conference is anything special football-wise.

Oak Hill turned down the chance to host a week 9 home game vs. the Tigers.

How could that team win no less than 2 SEOAL games and finish last? Did Marietta even win a conference game this year? What about Chilly? Gallia only beat those two.
