Not sure about the downgrading of Coach Downs...I think he was a good coach. BUT i do agree that Hemsley should have been givin a couple more years. Anyone couldve coached the 2004 class to a great season. They were FULL of talent. Its possible that had Hemsley stayed, they couldve had a win or two more that year.

He was in the same boat when he coached Fed Hock in 2006. That senior class was loaded, and should have done better than 9-2. He was a one trick pony and done.

To be honest, im not exactly sure why Downs left VC...i have heard many different stories. All I know is he did a good job with good players and im sure he did the same thing at Fed Hock. He may not be the greatest coach in the world but he did make it to the postseason...hes deserves some credit.

I find it hard to beleive that Helmsey ran the score up on anyone. As for Downs, he did win with talent. So it could have been worse. He could have lost despite the talent. But many say he could have done better too. He does seem to have the ability to put himself in the right job at the right time, and then mysteriously have some unforseen reason to leave just before the bottom falls out. So that says something for his forsight if nothing else.

I think AJ is trying to say Coach H was complaining about getting beat, but that VC use to do the same (before he started coaching at VC). Not that I believe it..Im my years of watching VC ball..wheather it be football or basketball...VC coaches are full of class and never have a goal of running up the score on teams. Sure it happens sometimes, but coaches sit starters and try to avoid the blowout wins. There were a couple years where VC could have beaten their arch rival Wellston worse than they did...and vice versa..just for the respet they have for each other.

AJ...VC went...
1-9 in 2002
6-4 in 2003
8-2 in 2004
3-7 in 2005
5-5 in 2006
4-6 in 2007
1-9 in 2008
1-9 in 2009.

The 2004 team is the team you are refering too.

Not sure about the entire decade of the 90's....but i do have a few..

1990..?
1991..?
1992..10-0? TVC Champions
1993..9-1? TVC Champions
1994..?
1995..6-4 TVC Champions
1996..7-3 TVC Champions
1997..7-3
1998..?
1999..6-4 TVC Champions

Not sure about the 92-93 seasons..I know VC went 10-0 early in the 90's...and i know VC won 5 TVC Championships in the 90's.

No doubt about it AJ...VC just doesnt have the bruisers they once had. The 2004 team had their share and the difference in that team and the 90's teams imo, the 04 team have better skill position players and the 93 team had a better line and total defense. The Vikings are completely different than the 90's teams...they need a coach who understands that they cannot run it on 1st and 2nd down and throw a screen pass or sland to the same player on 3rd down. Things have to be changed and players need to be utilized better. Hopfully the new coach can get the most out of the boys this fall.

VC and Wellston are both the same right now had coach that couldnt win. Wellston had tons of talent this yr. and with the right coach wouldve have been a playoff team. VC had some talent and shouldve one more that just one game this yr!

If he would rather win 3 games compared to 1...then he made the right choice.

The only place Prater can go and continue to play football this fall is back to VC. If he goes anywhere else he will have to sit out this coming season.

Lets face it goldenboy...Wellston has no room to talk about being surperior to VC because they both are in the same boat. Wellston had more preseason talk than VC last year..VC had more injuries...we could go on and on. Hopfully both programs return to where they once were and can get the rivalry back. It will be tha final game of the season starting next year...so maybe in a couple years the new coaches can get things turned around and that last game will mean something...mainly a TVC Championship...and maybe playoffs will be at stake like back in 04.
