the answer is--------------------------------------- have the games at the shoe, show a tape delay of the games a full 2 weeks later, then you'll have another one of those 32,000 plus attendance games, i was part of that crowd , it just seemed too awesome for a high school game, i loved it, and we can do it again.

next item up for bids will be private championships, and public state championship games being seperated, long overdue,

it would be great to have the finals at the shoe.columbus is central,in the middle of ohio if you cant make it to the game, then listen to it on the radio.if i couldnt make it to the away games i would listen to it on the radio.

now if i i had a chance to see the finals at the shoe(didnt matter who it was) i would go why,its closer.

also,i saw espn has been doing high school football games last year some were from ohio tressel needs to call herbstreet and tell them to do the finals from ohio stadium.

i know half of you complain when i open my big mouth but just think about it.national exposure would be great for the ohsaa.

I respectfully disagree with both of your points. The reason why there were 32,000 people who attended the 1982 State finals in the Shoe, was because of who was in it, not because of where it was. At the time, you were looking at 4 of the most successful football schools in Ohio. Ironton was a State Champion and right in the middle of a long regular season unbeaten streak. The Class of 1983 at Ironton, never lost a regular season game and lost only 2 games in 4 years. That class went 42-2-1 in 4 years. Akron St Vincent St Mary featured two prize D1 recruits in Frank Stams (Notre Dame) and Ed Taggert (Ohio State). They were also a Northeast football powerhouse. In the second game, Moeller was multiple time state football champ and was featuring the Francisco(Sp?) brothers and coach Gerry Faust who all ended up at Notre Dame. Massillon was featuring highly recruited Chris Spielman who ended up at OSU. Very rarely do you see 4 teams playing in the same stadium on the same day. It was the perfect storm for the OHSAA.

As for private vs. Public, when they seperate the two, the public championship will lose alot of luster. Kentucky used to seperate the Louisville schools from the rest of the state. it was a joke. I say you just make the private schools play in the top two divisions. Seperate them by numbers.

OHSAA could care less about the feelings of those in Stark County...or any other county in Ohio. OHSAA is all about the money. If Columbus can offer a better financial package, then the historical relationship with Stark County is out the door.

Ohio State is pretty good at putting on events too. Columbus does major events like the Arnold Classic each year and that event is bigger than a visit by the University of Michigan to town. Columbus offers a centralized location with more major hotels and restaurants. Plus, all other OHSAA tourneys are held in Columbus.

I have attended football finals at the Shoe, and I never thought of the stadium as too big. Since that time, the playing field has been lowered and track removed which brought some seats closer to the action.

Again, money will be the deciding factor.

I don't disagree with you at all, except where bolded.

All this info comes from http://www.ohsaa.org/FanGuide/directions.htm

Bowling floats around the state with the most recent stop being in Chillicothe.
Softball is played in Akron.
Swimming and Diving occurs in Canton.
Volleyball is played at the Nutter Center on the campus of Wright State University.

Not many, but still refutes your claim that ALL other OHSAA tourneys are played in Columbus.

I think Mayor Rich Blankenship should put a package together and head to the OHSAA and propose a deal to hold the games in Ironton at Tanks Stadium!

Seriously.....

I hope they return to Columbus
