Re: Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
I think this might be a close game. I see a lot of hitting....Nathen Dean will be a lot sharper throwing the ball this week. He just needs to work on his reads and he will be dangerous, but with that said if the running game is clicking coach Boston will run it right down NC throats all day long. Both teams will be working hard this week and both teams believe they will win. I really think this game will come down to coaching and defense. I can't wait it should be a good one!!!
GO BUCKS GO!!!!!

They usually travel pretty good. It more some years than others, it depends on how the team is playing.NYBuckeye96 wrote:Do NC fans travel well?
How does NY fans travel? I hope well because NC could us a big gate next year. The way our league schedule works out this year is good gate year. We host all of the teams that travel well. Heath, Licking Valley, Granville and Lakewood (because of their band). Next year it's not so good with Columbus Academy, Whitehall and Bexley.
Re: Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
I really do not know how we will travel for this game. Because it is far away and on a friday I think some of the older fans will stay home. I think you will see mostly parents and some students. If this game was on a sat I know there would be a nice crowd. We have only 4 home games this year and 3 of them will have a big gate (Heath, Licking Valley,Granville)BTW-Nerkfan will play at Lakewood and have Academy at home.nerkfan wrote:They usually travel pretty good. Re: Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
NY fans travel well, so I would imagine you will have a nice gate from NY next year.
I know people are saying that Newark Catholic is down and it's not the same NC from years past, but to me, Newark Catholic is still Newark Catholic. Even if Newark Catholic went 0-10 on the season, I would still consider an NY victory over NC huge! If I still lived in Ohio, I would be at this game in a heartbeat!
Nelsonville and Newark are only about 55 miles apart from each other. That's very reasonable for a non-league game. If things go well, maybe the series could be extended in the future. This game would be a playoff-like game more seasons than not.

Good luck buckeyes, limit the turnovers play tough defence and come away with the win.
Re: Week 2: Newark Catholic (1-0) @ Nelsonville-York (1-0)
Do we have any info on NC's team or seen any film of their first game? What do they have?

I would have to bet they scouted them at Harvest Prep and at least one or two of their scrimmage games.

I really wish I could be there to see this game, this is one of those measuring stick games for both schools. I really have no idea what to expect from his game.

CANAL WINCHESTER -- Britt Wilder had a productive junior season, but he averaged fewer than 10 carries per game for Newark Catholic.
In the first half Friday, Wilder had 12 carries, showing the role of workhorse appears to be fitting him just fine. Wilder had three touchdowns by halftime, and he added a fourth in the third quarter in the Green Wave's 27-14 nonleague victory at Harvest Prep.
"It is what I wanted, but whatever works is what I want the team to do," Wilder said. "When the line is just blowing up holes, I just have to run through them. I have the easy job. They are the ones doing the dirty work."
With the graduated Dean Moore rushing for team highs of 130 carries and 631 yards in 2009, Wilder was a change of pace for NC. He almost ran for half his 2009 total Friday, totaling 209 yards on 30 carries.
Wilder had a 6-yard scoring run on the Green Wave's second drive, then doubled up in the second quarter, taking a simple draw 57 yards and adding a second 6-yard touchdown run that gave NC a 20-0 lead with 59 seconds left in the first half.
"(Wilder) had an amazing night," said senior tackle Aaron Price, who was joined by four other seniors along the dominant NC line. "He was able to read our blocks very well. We just had to take the guy where he wanted to go, and he read it perfectly.
Harvest Prep reached the end zone twice in the third quarter on a pair of big plays. Taimere Fambro scored on a 58-yard run on the half's second play, and Devon Wade dragged defenders into the end zone on a 27-yard pass.
But in between, Wilder scored for a fourth time. The only thing that slowed down him was a cramp in the third quarter. He was dropped for a loss just three times, had a pair of 23-yard runs and a 15-yard run mixed into his career night -- a night on which the Green Wave hope he improves during 2010.
"The whole line can take a piece of it," Price said. "It was not just me. It was five guys working to the best of their ability."
When Harvest Prep attempted to load the box against the run in the second half, the Green Wave also hit them through the air. Junior Garrett Vernau, making his first career start, was 5-of-7 for 116 yards. All of his completions went for first downs.
C.J. McCreary had the first three catches for 57 yards, and Michael Lewis and Tanner Potts each had fourth-quarter receptions. Potts totaled 41 yards and would have gone for a touchdown if not for a blocking penalty at the end of the run.
Harvest Prep's Brandon Ross was 11-of-21 for 125 yards. The Warriors moved the ball well most of the night as Fambro added 135 yards on the ground, but penalties and bad snaps killed drives. The Warriors committed 16 penalties for 118 yards and had multiple poor shotgun snaps that threw off Ross' timing.
The Green Wave scheduled the Warriors, looking for a team that could provide the type of explosiveness NC will see in Mid-State League-Ohio Division play and is likely to win games. Harvest Prep appears poised to blow past its two victories from 2009.
"We definitely wanted to eat the clock," NC coach Bill Franks said. "We were very aware of their great athleticism. We just tried to keep it out of their hands. The plan worked. If you can run it, what a luxury, and we sure ran that ball tonight."

Good Luck to Nelsonville-York...represent the TVC loud & proud...
The Key for NY, is seeing if their 'Young-engine-that-could' can carry the load, and amass the yardage like he was able to achieve against a stout, Trimble Defense...
Most Likely a low scoring contest...
I like:
Nelsonville-York -- 20
Newark Catholic -- 13

I would tell NC fans to be prepared to stand in line a long time at the concession stand. I have no idea why they only opened 2 out of 4 windows last friday. If the Band boosters cant handle the job, maybe they should let someone else take over.
On next years game..I would say that NY will have as many fans at the game as NC does.

Unless they tailgate it will take a minute to get some food....I think NY Defence is the diffrence maker in this match up
NY offence has to finish drives. not turn the ball over..If the passing game is clicking it will help the buckeyes overall chances...But i still like the Bucks by 2 scores..
