Back in the day, running "bells", as they used to be called, was not only a disciplinary tool for the coaches but in phys. ed. and sometimes within the school itself. There used to be a bell about 3/4 of the way up the hill and that marked the top of the circuit.
I wonder whatever happened to the bell?
