TVC Hocking
Re: TVC Hocking
If you divide Wahama's boys enrollment for grades 7-12 by 6 and then multiply that number by 3 (because Ohio uses the enrollment of grades 9-11 to determine where a school will be in divisional size) you get an average boys enrollment for Wahama of 117. This makes them D-6 in football (119 or less) which is where the OHSAA has them for the computer calculations for football ratings. The girls enrollment would be an average of 99.
The boys enrollment for this year should look like this for the TVC Hocking...
Belpre 145 D-5
FH 138 D-5
Wahama 117 D-6
Trimble 107 D-6
Miller 104 D-6
SG 91 D-6
Waterford 89 D-6
Eastern 87 D-6
Southern 76 D-6

Theres some rumors that SG is getting a transfer from Ironton. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

If SG was going to get all the players that are rumored on here they would be D1 by now. Ask yourself why would a player transfer from a football power house like Ironton

Re: TVC Hocking
First off good for you folks in Groveport on all your accomplishments. However, this is the football forum, so tell me what GM has done in the last 10 years in the FOOTBALL playoffs? Not so well from what I have found. So when you get on here and hammer the football teams from this area, remember yours has not done so well either. As for other sports, I believe we beat Wahama in several those this past year, and have beaten them in football in the past. So I guess we will see what happens over the next few years. I am sure if anyone in the TVC beats Wahama a few times they will drop out of the league. Of course it will be blamed on West Virginia scheduling LOL.FANOSPORTS wrote: Hey Juvenile, not so fast my friend. Wahama will beat Trimble in just about everything including tiddly winks at this point in time. As for the G-M comment above, just in the past year we've won the OCC Softball title (with a 1st team all-Ohio pitcher), a Dance team state championship and the State Lifeguard championship (Yes, we swim also). In the not so distant past we've had multiple all-state player's in different sports, state champion band and flag corps, playoff football teams, regional caliber baseball teams, a state champion wrestler, 3 state championships in swimming, a state champion golfer, multiple state championships in track & field along with player's in the NBA, NFL, Pro tennis and DI College football (remember QB Tony Lowery for Wisconsin beating OSU). So all is not lost just because G-M plays DI sports in the OCC in and around C-bus which is a very fine league I might add.Trimble Juvenile wrote:Yes I see what you are saying and this is a lot like Groveport-Madison. They don't compete well in the playoffs, or when they face other teams of their size out of the area. This also means that Trimble may have been able to make it to the state finals in WV since they played Wahama so close.FANOSPORTS wrote:Everyone always wants to bust West Virginia schools chops because of Ohio being so much better in sports overall (and they should be by population and school sizes alone) but when a WV school gets in an Ohio league and wins, that only tells me one thing : Southeastern Ohio teams are on the same level as WV schools of the same size and are usually way behind schools in central, northern and western ohio of the same size come tournament time. The proof is in the pudding whether you want to believe it or not, any sport boys or girls.

Maybe its not the kids choice. Also no one has said anything thing else about any other transfers to SG. The only two transfers last year that were talked about on here happened. That was the two kids from Gallia Academy.I know for sure they have some basketball transfers.cg 22 wrote:Rebels on 3 wrote:Theres some rumors that SG is getting a transfer from Ironton. Rumor is 6 frOm RV 4 from Ironton and Tyrell Pryor has 1 yr left he has decided to spend it in Mecerville!
Now on a serious note as far as i know 1 kid from RV moved to SG because his stepdad knew he would likely not see the floor at RV on varsity. Unless there are some J H kids.

Re: TVC Hocking
You need to get someone to read it to you becsuse the OSHAA site is grades9-11 seniors are not included. Wahama is larger than any school except FH.FANOSPORTS wrote:That is correct. The numbers on the above mentioned website include grades 9-12 which is one less class than Ohio goes by when figuring numbers. The total number at the bottom of the website is for both male/female. The WV website similar to OHSAA is WVSSAC.org and the enrollment on there includes grades 7-12 for Wahama which is why they're referred to in most publications and on websites as Wahama Jr-Sr High School.mtswngrvsg wrote:If that counts freshmen then the numbers are about the same since OHSAA numbers do not count freshmen.

Then why transfer to a team the returns all 5 starters.ole_Bobcat wrote:Rumor is 6 frOm RV 4 from Ironton and Tyrell Pryor has 1 yr left he has decided to spend it in Mecerville!

Re: TVC Hocking
Because the stepdad and the Varsity assistant are good buds perhaps he will be coaching on the SG staff this year? After all he was 3-57 at RV the past 3 years. One of those losses might not be his he was suspended 1 game for throwing the ball at a ref.Rebels on 3 wrote:Then why transfer to a team the returns all 5 starters.ole_Bobcat wrote:Rumor is 6 frOm RV 4 from Ironton and Tyrell Pryor has 1 yr left he has decided to spend it in Mecerville!

He wont be on the staff this season. He moved because he thought it was best for his stepson. As far as the staff being good buds is a long reach for the reason he came down. If the varsity assistant wasn't there he would of still been at SG. Heck, back in the day he played all summer with HT and he was coming to HT. He has always loved mercerville and he finally made the change. RV is well coached and will be competitive. Coach Hill knows what he is doing and will get the job done.

Re: TVC Hocking
ole_Bobcat-we are even, I made a mistake and you have made a mistake. You are correct that the numbers are now 9-11. But both Belpre and Federal Hocking are larger than Wahama. The 5 largest schools right now in the TVC Hocking are:
1. Belpre
2.Federal Hocking
3. Wahama
4. Trimble
5. South Gallia
There is very little difference in 3-9 and the order of size in those schools will change over the years.

Wahama definitely won't be getting larger anytime soon. When I graduated back in the stone age we had 120 kids in our class, they now have somewhere around 60 that receive diplomas yearly. No jobs, bad economy, Wal-Mart and gambling houses now.

Belpre graduated 54 this year.
My senior class had around 180 in it and it wasn't the largest class to graduate from Belpre.

No more good paying jobs (other than the one's already taken) in the immediate area. I know Meigs, Wahama, Eastern and Southern have been hit hard over the years by dwindling populations. Goodyear & the Coal Mines out of business. Stauffer and Kaiser changed names (a couple times over the years) and have a lot less employees than they used to. Lakin State Hospital (now a prison) and GSI used to be decent places to work but don't keep up with inflation pay wise anymore. If it weren't for the hospitals, school systems and power plants (AEP) the whole area would be dead, except for Wal-Mart of course.
Re: TVC Hocking
Very true. But you can cross AEP off the list now even though the air and water are the cleanest they have been since before WW2.FANOSPORTS wrote:No more good paying jobs (other than the one's already taken) in the immediate area.
