Watching Kevin Rose and the dragons run over Coal Grove and Chesapeake.

I also remember the stories of Glen Stapleton, Allen/Wayne Hager and the Dragons of Jim Mayo winning OVC Championships and running over people.

Gallipolis beat Meigs 12-6 that year @ Pomeroy. It was a hard fought game with a lot of defense and big plays but little scoring on offense. After the game everyone was milling around outside the gate in the small parking lots (Old Pomeroy H.S. was still standing at the time and was used as the Jr. High) and a lot of pushing and shoving started brewing after the game. I remember a bunch of kids started heckling the Gallipolis band while they were trying to get on their busses just outside the gate. A couple fist fights between various groups were quelled pretty quickly by the Pomeroy police. It was a raucous atmosphere that night. There was no place to park back then (everyone walked from downtown or parked along the highway) and there was always a friday night dance after the game @ the old Pomeroy H.S. back then (till 11-11:30) and a lot of kids and adults from both schools were milling around so that didn't help matters any after this big game. Meigs competed and won a lot of football games in the SEOAL back at that time in the late 60's, early 70's. They had a good group of player's in those days that kids could look up to and admire and most of them I know became very good and productive citizen's later. Those Meigs teams from 1967-1972 were some of my favorites as a kid.
