I think some of the TVC teams feel like that little girl... Now that they are grown up and have established a fairly stable league they have no time or sympathy for the (kids) that used to make fun of her. :122245 :122245
Maybe they (she) accepted Athens because we always paid attention to her growing up ... The Bulldogs had numerous TVC teams on the schedule for years - in all sports. I tell people all the time that Athens didn't change its entire schedule at all barely - they just switched the dates around and the emphasis of each game.
Here is a look at the schedule comparison from seven years ago when Athens was in the SEOAL:
2005 ................................... 2012
Nelsonville-York ..................... Nelsonville-York
Meigs .................................. Meigs
Alexander ............................. Alexander
Waverly ............................... Waverly
Gallia Academy ...................... Gallia Academy
Warren ................................ Warren
Jackson ............................... Jackson
River Valley .......................... Wellston
Logan .................................. Watkins Memorial
Marietta ............................... Vinton County
Lets' just call a spade a spade! The main reason was to avoid Logan in football! because we beat the bullpuppies almost every year and to be that BIG fish in a small pond!

After seeing Nelsonville-York destroy Logan in person last fall - I think Athens needs a stiffer challenge to get them ready for the playoffs ...
Which is why Jackson was added to the schedule ...

This is old news ,,they (athens) is getting what they wanted. Wins, championships by playing teams half their size. They will get tired of this when they go 8-2 and 9-1 a few times and tie or lose the TVC and not make the playoffs. This is a no win for athens, these titles mean little when you consider the size of their school and the resources they have to draw from. They may beat my Rockets (right now since joining they are up 2-1 in football) but I can tell you the football program @ Wellston is getting better by the year with Coach Hutchinson .

(8-2) OR (9-1) ... The TVC-Ohio consists of only 5 games = half the schedule ... Warren, Jackson, Gallia, Watkins Memorial & Waverly provide plenty of computer points to get in.
OH YEA, FORGOT TO MENTION - NO OTHER TEAM LAST YEAR BROUGHT MORE COMPUTER POINTS THAN NELSONVILLE-YORK (A TVC TEAM) ... The win shot Athens clear up to No. 2.

Athens is happy and the TVC is happy! Everyone else needs to get over it!
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I agree. No one from the TVC is complaining. Only outsiders.Orange and Brown wrote:Athens is happy and the TVC is happy! Everyone else needs to get over it!

Orange and Brown,
You let me know how happy you are in 3 years when Athens rips off 4 years of consecutive TVC football titles. Can we bookmark this post until then? You are happy because it really hasn't hit into the sport you care about most yet, but don't worry, it is coming.
One discrepency that people are not talking about is because Athens is much larger they have more employees in the school. More employees leads to more coaches that are teachers. A big factor why Athens football is going to be good (well, for the TVC) is because Adams is the middle school PE teacher, he gets the chance to get to know every boy before they enter high school. Also, most of his assistants are PE teachers in elementary schools or teachers in other buildings. What other school in the TVC has that ability? Not many!
Look at their head coaching positions, nearly all of them are teacher/coaches. No other TVC school has that.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Nelsonville-York has absoutly dominated Athens over the last 30 years ... They have no reason to think things will drastically change just because the game was moved back from week one to week 10.
* I can't even comment on the teacher thing - its just a ridiculous statement ... Your blaming a group of guys - who had been sitting back and watching the program suffer year after year - for finally deciding to step up and do something about it? Most of these guys are former players and were already employeed in the school system before they started coaching.
Its always been my experience that MOST SCHOOLS have coaches that are employeed at the school - I mean - I'm really baffled at the stuff people come up with just to speak with negativity.
Wonder what's next ... Anyone going to blame the 10-0 season by Athens on the mascot ... How about their colors? ... Oh, its probably because we played on a new field, right?
I've come to the conclusion that people just don't like Athens for some reason - although its just a small town in Southeastern Ohio when you look into the grand scheme of things.

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
93Bulldog, I think you are misreading Cavsfans point, I took his point to mean that Athens has a distinct advantage because of the number of teachers that coach, and work with these kids on a daily basis and help build the program from the ground up. Teachers as coaches is a hard to find thing in many districts, especially in SE Ohio, especially when you get into the smaller rural schools. Having qualified people work with your kids is a huge advantage. I took no disrespect towards your school from that post.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
For being a former writer Bulldog you don't read so well do you?
Pol Pot was able to read the post and get what I was saying.
I am baffled by people who get so defensive that they cannot possibly see other peoples points in life.
Not bashing kids/not bashing players/not bashing schools---Just pointing out differences!

Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
All these tiresome discussions about Athens are laughable. Keep building your straw man folks, just so you can keep tearing it down again and again. It appears old SEOAL foes continue to be more concerned and bitter year in and year out because of the Athens move. Of course. Since your league is on the decline and you need to do something to make yourselves look better, you've chosen Athens to dump on. All the while they just keep winning, and could probably give a rats behind what anyone behind them thinks.
And that's the point. The SEOAL and all you traditionalists are behind them, while they move forward. Why should anyone in the green and gold care about the opinions of a few old farts on here?

I read your post - and combined your thoughts with 'others' throughout the topic CavsFan08 ... When you keep reading all the 'negativity' its easy to start grouping posts together even if it wasn't meant to be malicious.CavsFan08 wrote:For being a former writer Bulldog you don't read so well do you?

Post after post, thought after thought is how Athens has an advantage because of this reason, or Athens has an advantage because of that reason ... It appreas to me like 'nit-picking' ... (i.e.) Your notion about coach Adams being a middle school P.E. teacher ... He spends about an hour a day with kids that are 12 and 13 years old ... If you want to view a school with an advantage instead of bringing up something like that - look at Nelsonville-Yorks situation.
Their head football coach is the athletic director AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ... he has no class responsibility, players can walk into his office anytime during the entire school day ... If a player has study hall, heck, go down to coaches office and watch game film ... Got a problem - go talk to coach ... Need to get into the weight room? Coach is right there ... And who has the final say on diciplinary matters? The Athletic director/head football coach.
I'm not saying any of that is bad - I'm all for it - I want the Buckeyes to win every week except the last one ... My point is (and my response to your original post) came from my view of this repeated attitude toward everything that Athens does and is ... Without seeing any of the same notions or thoughts being directed toward any other schools/teams ... Another example: Athens is constantly critisized for its size and being in the TVC - yet Vinton County is almost the same exact size and are in every division (in every sport) as Athens.
Never seen the same attacks being directed toward Vinton County .... EVER! But Athens? Just about every day either on here or out at ball games.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
I think Vinton County get some slack because they were a charter member. But with that said, they are similar in size and are in the same division in everything pending the redo of the football numbers. If that goes through then Athens would remain d3 and VC would drop to d4.
Re: Athens Dominates the TVC again...
Athens can add two more titles tonight since the finals of the track meet are complete. Sorry for starting this thread so early as I should have waited till the end of school year. Again, Congrats to the Bulldogs!!!!!
