I could see DeSales being the 6-7 or 8th seeded team unless their opponents start winning more. The problem is if you are a 1-2-3, you don't want to face DeSales right off the bat.

Be interesting if Desales makes the playoffs. They have to beat Hartley. Tall order

Why in the world are you so in awe of Columbus DeSales? Because they are catholic? Or because they have a name? Not one of the schools in the top 4 are afraid of DeSales, and I guarantee you everyone of them would rather play them 1st before matching with Athens this year.

How this works out, who knows, but if they all keep winning (big IF's), Jackson will have the inside track with 3-4 opponent's with 7-9 wins and 2nd level points galore.

Stubenville will be big points for Athens and either Tri Valley or Sheridan will be sitting pretty. LE will be right there in the points as well after getting by Teays Valley.

At the end of the day, SE Ohio will be well represented in this region.

And if put $$$$ right now that DeSales is NOT the team who makes it out of Region 9.

Pol Pot I agree with what you’re saying. last year I was one of those that bought into the name of DeSaels and if they got into the playoffs
They would be scary and everyone would be afraid of them. Your right there not the team in region 9

DeSales is going to get a ton of points from defeated New Albany, Akron Buchtel ( who should win all the games left) and Dayton Chaminade . The rest of their schedule will also produce a lot of points. Many of those teams are top heavy the last half of the season to win games. Watch what happens.

A week 11 DeSales at Athens match up sounds good :)

I doubt that Dover loses again and should be in the top 8 at 8-2.

It looks like Athens, Tri-Valley, and Jackson are in pretty good shape.

Logan Elm should make it in even if they lose one or two. Sheridan should be in at 9-1. Dover in at 8-2.

That leaves DeSales, Carrollton, and Granville for 2 spots. I think Granville will lose a couple. Carrollton really needs to go 10-0. Plays Louisville this week.

Don't really expect any other team to slide in there.

There's an inherent difference competition wise between playing (and beating) teams such as New Albany and Akron Buchtel as opposed to Gallia Academy, Wellston, or Proctorville Fairland. The Stallions' only loss was a 17-21 defeat at the hands of 4-0 D1 Westerville Central. Last year DeSales beat Clinton-Massie who won state in D4; C-M is a team that believes in playing defense and the team that is most like Athens C-M beat would've been Kenton.

Chalking up the success of Logan Elm to southeastern Ohio even though their conference isn't considered a southeast Ohio conference, aight...

I'd watch out for Sheridan, their varsity starters have not allowed a single point all year.

Thanks for the backup on DeSales, The FC Fan. As far as Logan Elm, since the school is in the Southeast District, that's why they are lumped in with SE schools. It's true the MSL is thought of as a central Ohio league, but three of the schools are in the SE District.

Yes, Logan Elm is in fact a 'southeast card carrying member'.
They also possess a 'Convo pass' and are a member of Pfloyd's Elite 8 list of teams.

lol

After serious discussions and an official board meeting - Clinton-Massie and other SCOL teams are still OUT, bman.

sorry

I believe they got ZERO votes in fact. Of course the board consists of just 93Bulldog and Pfloyd - but zero votes is zero votes.

And if put $$$$ right now that DeSales is NOT the team who makes it out of Region 9.

In the last 30 years DeSales has won:
3 State Championships ('85, '97, '98)
Been to EIGHT state championship games ('85, '90, '96, '97, '98, '01, '05, '09)
Won 10 Regional Championships ('85, '90, '91, '96, '97, '98, '01, '05, '08, '09)
Won 48 playoff games (in 22 appearances)

In 22 playoff appearances, they've only gone one and done 5 times.

For modern, history, under current coach Ryan Wiggins:

In 6 years, they've made 5 playoff appearances and gotten to three regional title games, 1 state final, and another final four. They only went 1 and done once (losing to Bishop Watterson).

DeSales has CONSISTENTLY been one of the toughest outs in the playoffs year after year after year.

Would Athens be the favorite? Hell yea! But if you don't respect and fear DeSales - you just haven't watched enough playoff football. NOBODY wants to see DeSales in the playoffs.

In 1996 they beat a very good Jackson team in Lancaster as I recall that was arguably one of the better teams the Ironmen ever put on the field.

Can't remember the final score but it was close for a good bit of the game before DeSales pulled away.

I agree DeSales is not a week 11 match-up that anyone would want to face. A true parochial school in that they play fundamental, well coached, hard-nosed football with a group of athletes that are very good (either through the feeder schools or "recruited" lol) with a lot of history and tradition. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it they need some help from some of the opponents they have defeated to grab some secondary points in order for them to make it in the top 8 spots. If Jackson would get in I sure would not want to see them, but lol would rather see them than Athens I think in week 11.

1st off you are talking 30 years ago. 30 years ago you probably had more hair and was a little slimmer as well. What has DeSales done in recent history? Like I said, I'd put money on the table that DeSales does not make it out of Region 9, and I'm not saying that it will be Athens, I'm saying it will not be DeSales. And I'm sure the kids and coaches at Athens will respect them and prepare like they do everyone else.

Big games in week 6 for Region 9: All AWAY for the R9 team.
Athens 5-0 at Steubenville 4-1
Sheridan 5-0 at Maysville 5-0
Granville 4-1 at Watkins Memorial 5-0

Looking at the rest of the schedules for the key teams in Region 9, I see 6 teams as pretty much a lock to play week 11.
Logan Elm, Tri-Valley, Jackson, DeSales, Athens, Sheridan

The winner of Dover and New Philadelphia (week 10) should make it in.

Carrollton or West Holmes might be the last team in.

I see Granville, Chillicothe, and Big Walnut each losing a couple more games. If I'm wrong, one of them might see week 11.

Problem for DeSales, this is not the same team with the same caliber of players that they had back then, or even 5-6 years ago. They have considerably lowered their schedule after the last couple of years of being down. Jackson game in 1996 was 7-0 Jackson entering the 4th quarter, which was the 2nd cloest game they had in the State Tournament run..
