Best game to watch of any on burgs schedule imo. Wins are lopsided but populations are equalizing making it more even or in burgs favor lately. Lutz departure was huge, we all know that but with Tigers history, I thought they could get a coach with the same fundamental prowess they have always had. Maybe the talent hasn't been there idk. But, this was supposed to be their yr! All those sophs are now seniors. Looks like burg is that good again. I know the defense is. As for the rivalry, hope I live to see a tie in wins between the two, lol!!! Means I will be real old!

I believe Irontons next big class is this years Freshman Class, if they all play Football and not specialize in one sport (Basketball).

FIDO (Forget It Drive On) wrote:As I said, they are the best PROGRAM in SEO in DV...The past is history, regardless how storied it may have been....The Burg is the new Ironton and they aren't going away anytime soon...Now, if you wanna talk DVI I'll go with my Valley Indians...Their run of success is a little shorter but they have put up some great numbers and their PROGRAM is on solid footing. YTB, all you have to do is look at the drop off in competition to realize Ironton is in a drastic decline and they no longer retain the BEST PROGRAM title. The question needing answered is how far will Ironton fall? That can't/won't be answered for a few years. Hopefully, they get things turned around quickly. Wishing, hoping, and relying on years old success won't get it done though. Best wishes to this traditional opening battle.

fido everything you said is in deed true now currently.wheelersburg is indeed the team to beat now in these parts in d5. and they dismantled and shut out Jackson as well. so the are the team in the south right now. nobody would dispute that among my friends.and valley I'm so pleased to see these guys tearing it up in d6. coach crabtree has been a blessing for that program, classy fans, great facilities, and awesome athletes. they may be a state conder in d6 this year. but like I said as well, we are just several years out from playing the wattersons and hartleys of the state.and fighting tiger fans are asking the same thing. how far will we fall.

Sadly Ironton Has Declined Year After Year!
I've Said It Over & Over. I Think That The Burg/Ironton Game, While Once Great, Is Now Done.
That Day Of The Game Of Course Everyone Is Fired Up, ITS GAME 1, A New Season!
Plus We All Remember What This Once Was And What We All Want It To Be Again.
But It Won't! Fact Is Ironton Is On A Downward Spiral (IMO)
Ironton Will Have Great Years Again, But Till Then I Don't Think It Benefits Burg To Play Them Anymore.
I'm Sure Many Will Disagree, But You Asked For Opinions, Don't Crap On Ppl When They Give Them.

Imo it doesn't benefit any good team to play ovc schools. They are all pretty bad. However I really enjoy the burg vs ironton match up!

I enjoy getting pumped up to the opening game between Da Burg and Ironton! Sometimes you really don't know whose going to win being the first game of the season. Ironton comes out HARD every year come game one and so does the Burg, both teams want the win very very badly and work really hard to get it. I don't know whats happened to the tigers since game one but something did cause Burgs on fire and getting better each week and tigers played Burg in a very close game week one.

Now....how in the world can Ironton be up in one of the better teams as far as rankings go is beyond me???? at 1-4???? come on!!! guessing that they are predicting Ironton to win out on the rest of the easy schedule they have let??? Hopefully they do

I'm hoping Ironton stays on our schedule for a very long time as game one because its always a battle. a fun game to watch, and brings a large cheerful crowd!!!!

I do too. I really do. and I'm quite sure it'll return it's luster pretty soon. actually this years was a game ironton coulda/shoulda/woulda won. but the milk's done spilt in that fridge. hopefully they can continue to win, and somehow climb back into the playoff picture. but that's quite a stretch right now. we just have to keep winning and see where the chips fall. but this program is unrecognizable to that say 4/5 years ago.
I really think they'll get it turned. as a long time tiger fan, 55 years. I'd hate to see this series end. I truly would. honestly I can't believe some posters are saying this. we are just a few years removed from amazingly incredible matchups. I personally don't ever see it ending. because of the gates. not many communities travel like fighting tiger fans.and the consessions and programs. kinda hard to fathom cutting your own throat that way. and as ironton turns the corner, they are generally a shipload of points because of their records. not this year of course. I know burg beat us soundly twice last year. but ironton extended their playoff streak.

at the risk of being a target for scrutiny. I really think we'll see a coaching change at ironton. nothing against anybody. just not producing . sports is all about production when you are a coach. personally I'd like to see Merrill triplett back, or mark hammer lutz or both somehow. get juan Thomas in the mix. that could be legendary.-----------but making the playoffs has never been the tigers goal. state championships and undefeated seasons are. so if these things start happening again somehow , the situation will correct itself.
I think juan Thomas himself would make an excellent varsity coach. schools cut their own throats a lot because in most districts you also have to be a teacher in the district. sometimes that just isn't the best way to operate.i'll tell you who I'd like to see. but I don't see it happening with his success in the college ranks. but I'd love to see mark synder prowling the sidelines. but he has a great coaching job at Michigan state, and a brighter future.

Hey Bait, why would any of those guys, or anyone at all want to coach at Ironton?

Look no further than the Ironton sampling on here. The Ironton fan base eats their own when they run into adversity. Look at how they've supported Vass. The guy loses a few games and they are ready to run him out of town. Why would anyone want to be part of a community like that? I'll help you out and start a new thread later full of quotes regarding Coach Vass to refresh your memory.

Most good coaches are smart enough to see where the Ironton program is heading and will stay away. 5-5 this year, 4-6 next year, who knows after that??? All the while, dealing with a community with unrealistic expectations.

Triplett? Really want to go down that road again? That statement alone is what I'm talking about. Hammer? I hear he has an absolute machine at RH. Why would he leave that, to coach against it for the next 4 years??? He's smarter than that.

It's not 1989 anymore.

Reality is harsh.....I agree on completely on Tripplett. That town couldn't get rid of him fast enough!!!! And he deserved way better then he was treated.
