I agree, amazing that someone who didn't even play football would be recommended to be a Varsity Head Coach. Someone doesn't have a clue.Old Dog 98 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 7:11 pmHow about somone who at least played high school football.

I heard there is a coach from Oak Hill that will be applying for the position. Good background and has been coaching at 2 different programs.

This is a mess, it is going to take some real skill not to continue the mess. Good luck to those involved in the selection process.

Bait they been looking since the 90s. Just as one gets it turned around. Headed the right way. The administration pulls the rug out from under them. There’s been plenty of good coaches that took that program on and had it where it needed to be. But guess what happened to every one of those coaches ? Canned, left (various reasons) but never long term coach and there were a few that would have loved to stayed there for their entire coaching career. I’ll say it again. Wellston is their own worst enemy when it comes to football. And good luck to the coach and his staff that takes the job on!!YOU'RE TIGER BAIT wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 2:45 pm I hope the rockets find the right man, and the right staff.

I agree. There has been some nice talent at Wellston over the years and plenty of community support for just about every sport. Newer facilities wouldn’t hurt in terms of football. Or at least updated. I’m talking real updates, not the paint job that ESPN did a few years back.countywide35 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 4:44 pmBait they been looking since the 90s. How many times do we have to say it? The key is getting a guy with the right nickname.

Ive read the name Dutch a few times on here. Are you meaning Hutch?
Re: 2019 Wellston Coaching Search
I think to hold this thing together it needs to be a Wellston person. I think the wrong hire and they lose more kids. They can’t afford to lose anymore talent if they want to win.
Hutch would keep them around. Something has to be built from the ground up. Hutch still young and won’t go anywhere if things get going goodin the program. You bring in someone outside...I don’t believe they’ll stick around.

Re: 2019 Wellston Coaching Search
I personally don’t think coach Hutchinson will come back ..
He was basically let go because of parents complaining. Coach Hutchinson had the Rockets program on a upward trend his five years . All with one paid assistant coach. He had a huge win against Jackson. That 2010 team was good , until injuries took over . It goes without saying that one player went on to play college football in the BIG , Jaylen Prater . Nevertheless that team had other talent , just couldn’t keep the starting lineup on the field . Either side offensive and defensive injuries. With a roster of 37 including freshman, coach Hutchinson did a outstanding job in my eyes .
Good luck Wellston in your search .
I for one hopes Coach Hutchinson would consider it .

Re: 2019 Wellston Coaching Search
I played for Hutch and was on the 2010 team, take away a couple injuries and couple breaks that didn’t go our way and we finish that season 6-4 or 7-3. In my honest opinion 2011 team was way more talented, especially if a couple of guys would of stuck around instead of transferring or quitting. just couldn’t pull it off against Gallia or Meigs that year and Jackson would of been another W but it is what it is.(although Meigs game is when Jaylen broke his foot). Plus Hutch never lost to VC and like stated above found a way to knock Jackson off, he understood the community and was great with us as a coach. Plus he had some great assistants in Bethel and Briggs and some others, far and away the best staff I played for. It was unfortunate that a couple bad years discipline wise ruined what could of been a pretty successful tenure with the talent that has been coming up. The fact everyone wanted the great Greg Phillips to come didn’t help either and we all see how that went. Sad part is Phillips took the job in 2010 then decided not to come and they turned to Hutch and he dedicated everything he had to the program. Oh and he didn’t want to leave!
