Re: Wk 1: Circleville @ Warren
A wild 4th quarter. Warren had chances to win this game. Circleville scored a TD with less than 2 minutes remaining, which came after a Sealey interception, which came after a Warren defender intercepted a pass out of the end zone and tried to return it, and being tackled at Warren's 1. A great game.
Circleville 32 Warren 27.
Warren appeared to have superior skill players, but they have some glaring issues on the defensive line.
Circleville doesn't look like a 1-9 team this year. I was impressed with their physicality, and size

Definitely better than what I thought they’d be. 8 is a nice player. Defensive line was not good in any way. They got consistently moved off the ball. This is the one group I was concerned about coming into this season. They have to get better or something has to change schematically or it’ll be the same song and dance every week. Bookman didn’t play, so that hurts, but it’s no excuse. Cressey was our best player tonight, imo. Can’t keep losing games like this - the excuses are done. Not the ideal way to start the season, but they play 9 more for a reason.Bucknuts88 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:06 pm A wild 4th quarter. Warren had chances to win this game. It’s not Coach Peyton’s fault for sure. He’s an Ironton legend.beg003 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:18 pmDefinitely better than what I thought they’d be. 8 is a nice player. Hmmm. Warren picked a program who is 14-63 since 2016 and welcomed them to a home opener with a roster full of talent. That’s sensational scheduling. Only thing is.. Circleville now has 15 wins since 2016.TigerALUM99 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 10:37 pmIt’s not Coach Peyton’s fault for sure. Both teams needed to start hot. Congrats to Roundtown on getting it done.
Good luck Warren.

I don’t have the answers but you seem to. What’s your solution? Instead of something negative and vague, how about something substantive? Scheme, strategy, anything. I’ll start: clock management at the end of the game wasn’t great. Defensive line was bad - might need to tweak alignments. Anything else you can think of?Notsofastmyfriend wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 11:00 pmMaybe you should coach? I mean it couldn’t hurt.

Don't beat yourselves up over it. Circleville was a young team last year. If my memory serves me right, they only lost one kid and returned everyone else plus some transfers. Both of you guys should be just fine. Two good teams played Friday night.

Where did I say I had the answers? I just suggested you should coach since you know more about the program than anyone on here. I guarantee you that you wouldn’t have called an off tackle play with 50 seconds to go with no timeouts. That’s just a horrible decision at any level including flag. Who in the World called that play?beg003 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 12:43 pmI don’t have the answers but you seem to. What’s your solution? You have plenty of criticism so I figured you had some ideas. And I don’t disagree with what you said. It was a bad play call in that situation. At the end of the day, it’s one game early in the season. They typically get better defensively as the year goes on. If they look like that Week 5 and on, then I think it’s time to worry.Notsofastmyfriend wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:46 pmWhere did I say I had the answers? And the schedule gets more difficult too. Better hope the defense gets better or it’s looking like a third 4-6 season in a row with the highest expectations in a long time. Then what? Everyone including myself said Warren would beat Circleville.
Re: Wk 1: Circleville @ Warren
I can’t disagree with that. You and I agree on almost nothing but you’re not off base with that. Their season will hinge on the defensive line getting it figured out. They worried me in the preseason but Friday really exposed it. DBs are really good and LBs have a high ceiling. But none of that matters if the DLine gets road graded. If they can even be high school average, they’ll be fine.Notsofastmyfriend wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 7:42 pmbeg003 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 5:54 pmYou have plenty of criticism so I figured you had some ideas.
