Re: Round 2 Ironton vs. New Lexington at JACKSON
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- dude that was a good post, we differ on who we think is going to come out on top. but i think it will be a wonderful game. i picked new lex every week in my picks, except week 10. against sheridan, i looked at who they'd both played and felt sheridan was a bit stronger. and a div. bigger. that was a tuff one to pick. because new lex had not let me down all year. that turned out to be your only loss. we've lost 3. but i can honestly say that those 3 losses have made us stronger. all 3 of those teams are in the second round of the ohio playoffs. so they are all for real, wheelersburg, logan, chillicothe. i'm not making any excuses. we just flat fumbled the ball away to too many good teams that made us pay. we still did it last week. that is our achilles heel. if we get that stopped we will truley be a hard out. we have a rowdy crowd as well. so alumni stadium in jackson, better be bolted up tight. because this should be a barnburner. they are all great teams , when you get to this point, but i'm not into moral victories , so go fighting tigers, we got an old fashioned CAT FIGHT/ TIGERS VS. PANTHERS. GO TOGERS GO.jkumpiretriesagain wrote:Men,
It is enjoyable to watch all you Burg and other teams' fans throw things at Ironton fans, please put on your orange and black and cheer for NL Friday! But back to the matter at hand...
We have a good band and rowdy fans, and it ought to be great playing the Tigers at Jackson.
Turf and weather are two variables in the game, but I think the people who say the game will be won in the trenches is correct. If NL can run a little bit, and pass a little bit against the vaunted Ironton D, we can keep their offense off the field, and/or keep them from pounding it for 25 or 30 minutes in the game. My impression is that the teams that beat Ironton either got a lead early and make Ironton throw the ball, or ran all over Ironton's front 7 and had the ball all night. Now if you are Logan and Chilli you certainly have the horses to do that, being big time D2/D3 schools. How did the Burg do it in week 1? Did they do it like Logan and Chilli, or was it a case of Ironton progressively shooting itself in the foot until they were playing on their kneecaps?
Also men, while Ironton has a legend as the HC and a legendary staff to go with it, New Lex has a great coaching staff as well. When the current staff came on board 8 years ago NL was just starting to come out of hole so deep they spoke Chinese where NL was. They took a program the previous staff had done some good things with, and took it to places it had not been since the mid 1970's. And they did it with a lot of handicaps and things working against them. They have a halftime bag of tricks too, and I wish we could sit in both teams' film rooms and here them game plan this thing out. It would be a real education for many of us.
Long time NL fans can tell you how great NL FB once was, and how low it had sunk. But now, NL has moved up the ladder to the D4 elite, like Ironton is, and only a handful of other schools are. That is one reason this game is going to be great Friday......
...... Another reason is that NL will win.

I don't know that is a fair thing to say..
In the Chillicothe game it was:
Ironton 3 6 = 9
Chillicothe 3 14 = 17
In the Logan Game it was:
Ironton 3 7 = 10
Logan 28 7 = 35
In the Wheelersburg game it was
Wheelersburg 16 7 - 23
Ironton 0 22 - 22
First half:
Ironton scored a total of 6 points in the three loses
The Opponents scored 47
------------------------
Second Half:
Ironton scored a total of 35
Opponents: 27
Then, two of these opponents were 2 division higher and had a lot of players going both ways, while Ironton, for the most part, had the majority of their players going both ways. One would have thought, with the fatigue factor, especially earlier in the year in the heat, that it would have been the other way around...and that Ironton would have been greatly bettered in the second half, not so!
So, I think, just looking at these three loses, we CAN see half-time adjustments at work.
Now, look at two of Ironton's wins that were tough games..Nelsonville York and Westfall, both very good ball teams and both well coached!
By halves:
Nelsonville York: 16 12 - 28
Ironton: 15 28 - 43
Willamsport Westfall 28 3 - 31
Ironton 21 20 - 41
In these two wins
Opponents: 44 15 - 59
Ironton: 36 48 - 84
Big half-time adjustments in these two wins too. The first, NY, gave Ironton a home playoff game! The second has them playing on week 12! I think it's readily apparent that the half-time adjustment has once again been firmly proven.
And..I'm not taking anything away from Wheelersburg here, I promise you I'm not but...seriously, I think that one of the biggest mistakes made in that game was scrimmaging Greenup County the week before ( I doubt they had a choice though, not privy to that fact though). Greenup was so unskilled that it was very difficult for the coaching staff at Ironton to get a true reflection of what they had or who was who. Of course, that's just my opinion but..I think many, would agree with me? I hope that next year, they'll have a more challenging and capable of an opponent to scrimmage
Re: Round 2 Ironton vs. New Lexington at JACKSON
as said many times before...fumbles kill....in the burg game...we had the mo and burg was already hanging their heads so low they were eatin dirt everytime they took a breath...then fumblitis...it killed us the first half...everytime we got the drive close to the goal...boom...and done...
as said before on here though...it takes a good team to take advantage and they did...Ironton pulled ahead and then couldn't stop the final drive...very good game played by two very good teams....
the Logan game was just another level...chilli was just not a good night for the tigers...too many mistakes and injuries...chilli played a good game.....
Come this time of the year...whoever doesn't make mistakes and doesn't turn the ball over...wins the game...this week will be no different...should be a good o'le good N....Go Tigers

Re: Round 2 Ironton vs. New Lexington at JACKSON
The recent experience of playing spread offenses and winning will benefit Ironton. By no means do their lines get winded or wear down. They simply improve and overpower after halftime. They do play soft to start to get their feel of it all, and then plan from there. I know new lex will be good. I think the sheridan chili score is irrelevant. Chili beat Ironton by less than ten (memory guessing), and Ironton had chances to seal the "W" deal. Plus we were banged up without several backs and linemen and were not peaking yet.
We are peaking NOW!!!
I give props to new lexington, but i do believe your bus stops in jackson. seoal turf. seoal win. Ironton will move on, surprise the region and even their own faithful, and the fair weathered fans we have obtained the past few seasons with the ad/coaching turmoil.....
March on tigers..... good luck and injury free play... Whats impressing is adjusting to the spread and killing n. york, westfall, in the second half. AND having 3-4 backs that can go the distance.... Three were over 100 yards each last week and we didnt even have to pass much or at all(memory fading). If we do pass, and are on, Ironton definitely, without a doubt advances.... gotigersgo....~get the ball, get the ball, get the ball, get the ball!!!~

Tigers need to contain the QB, may or may not be the best we've seen this year, but there is no doubt, he is good. Hold onto the ball and hit. I don't look for this to be a blow out either way, but as always, GO TIGERS!!!!!

Re: Round 2 Ironton vs. New Lexington at JACKSON
I watched ironton last Friday and coach Lutz made great half time adjustments. It looks like New Lex spreads it out like Westfall only better which gave the Tigers fits in the first half. But one things for sure New Lex better be able to stop the run because I know they will get a steady diet of it. I have a feeling that the Panthers are really pretty good, they played Thornville very close, I realize that it is a rivalry game but to play them that well was amazing. Remember what Thornville did to Chillicothe? I know that isnt "apples to appples" but it is something to take a look at. Good luck to both teams, by the way the Tiger fans were very hospitable and we appreciate it.

Re: Round 2 Ironton vs. New Lexington at JACKSON
i think that ironton will turn the ball over against a really good team and will also cause some turnovers. in that, i will say this will be a close game. if nl has any kind of running game they better be practicing cause this year the tigers have (i think) kinda figured out how to defend the pass like they did last week. yes, it did take the whole first half to develope the pass defense but i think after playing a few games coach lutz has figured it out (FINALLY) how to defend it. with that said !!!!!!!
Ironton 41
NL 35 last drive TD too win.........
In a shootout like last week!!!!!!!
GO TIGERS GO! GO TIGERS GO!!!!!!!!!!
