The best player I saw for I-Town was the left tackle, looks definitely like a D-1 player.

He impressed me. He had Burg's D-Tackles number.

I could have sworn I saw people running from him as he was chasing them down the field during plays. Don't know if I was seeing things, but either way, Geez!

You got that Right! We met in AAU Basketball of which he is very good at also, as I'm sure you Ironton Fans Know very well.
We're actually not his real Grandparents but he has always called my wife Grandmaw. He's very dear to us and we go watch him play every chance we get. Your right though this young man could play At A D1 school someday IMO.

You must be talking about Spalgeric...He has been scouted by WVU and Purdue...haven't heard anything yet this season..but they were watching him last year at three games..

sider_zone wrote:I think as long as Burg keeps Ironton the 1st game of the season they'll be OK. Over the years I've watched them it's always been their weakest Game for some reason, but once they get rolling Look out. I remember we (West) played them in 89 the 1st game and the score I think was about 18 to 6 or something and they went on to win State. then in 90 we shut them out in tank stadium, but they gave us a good spanking in the playoffs. anyway Congrats to Tigers on the win and good luck the rest of the season. Especially Nick Colbertson:I know he had a good game, Great Kid, Great Athlete- from Grandma and Grandpa on the West Side.
I played on the 89 team. We had to come from behind the first three weeks of the season. The team we were at the end of the season was not even close to the same team that started the season. Players get moved around etc. Coach Lutz once told me that 90 percent of winning is getting the right people in the right places. I would say that he might know something about winning. A Hallmark of a great coach and a good team is that they continue to improve every week. Ironton always improves over the season.

I believe the Burg will win at least 8 games this year. They have some talent. As for the Tigers, I am certain they will get better and make a decent run in the playoffs. It takes some luck to win a State title, and only time will tell if we get the right bounces during the year. It will be fun to watch for sure.

Another Great Ironton-Wheelersburg game!!! What a great way to start the season. Hard fought game by both teams, who will each have a lot of success this year.

Please keep this game week 1!! Some things shouldn't change: Wheelersburg and Ironton play in Week 1 (Portsmouth and Wheelersburg should still play week 10!!) and Ohio St and Michigan play the last reg season game.

The Ironton player 74, the De #89. Awesome players. All the rest is history. Like Itown offense, the ones that break thru the lines get all the credit! LOL. #74 and 89 are the best frickin players, 89 coulod juke the Tight end off his block and forced alot of early passes or sacked the QB. #74 was a beast. Where do u feed a kid like that? And U have a frosh on the team that big? I'm calling OHSAA!

tl985 had his prediction of 56-6 right, I-towns week 9 opponent beat Cin. Hughes by that score, Milford may not be the push-over that everyone has anticipated them to be.
By the way has anyone heard anything or seen anything from this great prognasticator, since the I-town-Burg game?

He could be choking on a crow feather or 3. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

not so fast my friend. minus the one 73 yard run for Wilkes he was 7 carries for 11 yards.
and minus the one 51 yard run for Hager he was 3 carries for 12 yards..... not outstanding Yards Per Carry stats. so the "awesome" players apparently didn't do all that well all night long but only on a couple of plays so maybe the "ones that broke thru the lines" DO deserve the credit.

on the other hand, Schankweiler had 21 carries for 116 yards and Graf had 9 carries for 84 yards and neither had any LONG runs. only 3 players averaged more than 5+ YPC in the whole game... and they all ran behind Wheelersburg's line. so just maybe the "awesome" players were on Wheelersburgs offensive line.

except for two plays on the whole night, Ironton's speedsters were pretty well contained. a total of 10 carries for 23 yards behind Ironton's line.

I — Hager 51 yard run (pass failed)

THIRD QUARTER

I — Wilks 73 yard run (run failed)

WB — Shears 1 yard run (kick good)

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS

Passing: Ironton — Tommy Waginger 0-3-1 0. Total 0-3-1 0. Wheelersburg, Alex Shears 4-9-0 84. Total 4-9-0 84.

Rushing: Ironton — Tres Wilks 8-84, Tyler Hager 4-63, Brian Warner 13-56, Tommy Waginger 7-20, Brandon Leach 2-5. Total 32-228. Wheelersburg — Brandon Schankweiler 21-116, Tommy Graf 9-84, Alex Shears 8-14, Brett Hood 1-6, Chase Workman 1-3. Total 40-223.

Receiving — Wheelersburg, Brandon Schankweiler 2-28, Dakota Luster 1-32, Tommy Graf 1-24. Total 4-84.

Yes, by all means any run over 20 yards shouldn't count on the scoreboard or the stat sheet or even as a well run play....those plays are clearly luck compared to a 5 yard run and don't count for anything...... 2 good teams played a tough game and one had to win and one had to lose............ move on.

I believe I was responding to demaniacs remarks about the LINE play and how it affected the stats and NOT whether stats should be counted or not so don't get too excited there hoot.... AND.... I'll move on when I get ready to move on.
If you are so big on "moving on", what are you still doing on this thread??

BTW, hoot. Wheelersburg had MORE TOTAL YARDS than Ironton. Did you know that?

By the way I am still here so do not get bored yet. However evidentially being from Ironton procludes me from being able to talk alot of trash without a suspension... but never fear everybody I will try my best to keep it interesting. Just gotta stay within the guidelines which I am now convinced states somewhere that if representing the Fighting Tigers you must tolerate all yang poppin off other fans soup coolers for if responding in any way that is then considered aggressive or even humurous in nature you WILL BE REPRIMANDED!  Funny because again I sure did read alot of stuff last year that could have been deemed offensive but then again it was from "other" fans right? :122249 Have to try and remember that I suppose. @ any rate I predicted the game would be 30-3 in Irontons favor and while the final was a far cry from that it was a win and a win is a win. Like I said, football is ofcourse a game of inches and whether you win by an inch or a mile it is a win, same with a loss and Wheelersburg made a great showing but yet and still as usual it was not enough. TIGERS WIN! Although it looks as if some have already forgotten that. Short memory Pirate fans, short memory.   GO TIGERS!

How ironic. For the last 6 years all the other posters have been calling this the "Ironton Board" and saying Ironton posters could say anything they wanted and if anybody said anything against them they would get harrassed and threatened.

Now comes BigCarlito crying from the other side of the table claiming that if you are from Ironton you get the short-sheet.
Some are great at giving opinions and criticisms but not too good at playing on the other side of the ball ... in other words, your offense is great but your defense stinks.

You might not want to discount the possibility that it is the individual doing the posting and not the school they represent that's the problem.

So, ya got reprimanded, huh? I think that is hilarious.
