Portsmouth in Division 5 is not a shock, but a disappointment, wasn't to long ago we had numbers

I agree. The larger and more spread out the district, the harder it is to get kids there.Winchell wrote:PopeSnoopDogThe1st wrote:2016 OVC Male Enrollment figures:

Here you go YTB...climb in it and travel back to your youth, and the 2-a-day weeks and Coach Lutz shaping all you guys into champions.
Enjoy my friend.
Enjoy my friend.
Re: OVC 2016
Went to the Midnight Madness Portsmouth had last night. Was obviously just offense vs. defense but I came away impressed. Coach Duncan has implemented some of the old things Portsmouth used to do back into the program. Think I counted about 52 boys out. Really excited to get the season underway.
Who Dey!

Re: OVC 2016
Portsmouth was D3 AP Poll Champion in 2000, beat a very good Dayton Chaminade Julienne team at Hillsboro 31-24 in the regional final, then lost to Van Wert 28-21 in the state semifinals. Van Wert then lost the state championship game to Canton Central Catholic 28-27 on a missed extra point.
What I am looking from the Trojans this season is to at least be competitive; there were a half dozen games decided by at least 25 points with a running clock in most of those games. Even as optimistic as I am normally, going from an average of 3-7 over the last 8 years to a season over .500 in 2016 is maybe a stretch. It is not unrealistic, however, to expect the Men of Troy to at least be competitive in every game. I told Coach Duncan the same thing that I'm typing here.

good luck to your Trojans this year TD. it would be awesome for the Tigers/Trojans match to get back to the game it used to be.and great for the league. can't wait to get ahold of them blue boys again from the French city. I hope the OVC is crazy wild and great parity this year. and ironton/Portsmouth is the game 10 matchup , so that's awesome for both teams.

Yeah, I think Athens, Logan, and Jackson were D1 up to 1979. 1980 OHSAA went from 3 to 5 divisions and Athens and Logan were D2 and Jackson was D3noreply66 wrote:Wasn't Jackson a low enrollment DI at one time?

From the write up in the Herald Dispatch today by Tim Stephens it looks like the Fairland Dragons are going to have an excellent year coming off of an 0-10 season.
