I think there is plenty of talent that will fit together well in grades 7-10 eventually. Work ethic is what separates players eventually in high school and I think Minford has plenty.

Then why are we getting our butt handed to us at those levels?

Minford took themselves out of the game against West through turnovers.

When you look at the game, a realistic score would have been 14-7, possibly 14-14 at the half. I dont care what anyone says, the missed field goal when they marched down and scored to make it 7-6 was enormous. That just took the life right out of them.

It didnt help that they turned the ball over on their first 2 possessions after the half giving West 2 quick scores. After that, West pushed Minford around the entire 4th quarter.

This year the Minford kids should be much tougher mentally, and they bring back tons of athleticism at the skill positions and should be able to muster up a very solid line on both sides of the ball.

Look out.

Minford has K-4 pee-wee programs and they are retaining them each year. From what I understand Burg pee-wee doesn't began until the 5th grade. Unless you are picked by this out-law team, what ever that is, that travels. We even had burg players wanting to play in the Minford system from K-4 because burg had none. Some did play but Minford players will fill the rosters first and if we need to fill out another team then they pick up other kids. Minford went to this system about 8 years ago, I think.

Not trying to pick an arguement with you, and I understand this is a Minford thread, but I would have to disagree with you on that. West was just stronger and controlled the clock and ball. Yes, I will agree it was close game first half and it could of very well of been 14-14, but when the third quarter started West's conditioning, strength, and experience took over. Just like you can say if Minford hadn't of turned the ball it would of been closer, you can say that if West hadn't of gotten of all the holding calls it could of been 42-6 or 35-6. I'm just saying, I do think that West and Minford where pretty evenly matched, but saying this with less bias as possible, West was a little better last year

Sider- I completely agree that West was better last year. No doubt about it.

But when you turn it over at your own 20 to start the half, give up a quick score off the turnover, then get it back to only have a running back get stripped and give up another quick score, you are not going to look as good as you can be physically and emotionally after the tides turn like that.

West has alot to replace from last year, that is probably one of the better West teams put on the field. I would say since 1990 they are a top 3 West team.

Minford had 3-4 big boys that were just not STRONG and AGGRESSIVE on the line. That needs to change next year.

When is the lift-a-thon? I would like to see them add sprints to the competition. Have the skill players compete for fastest times and lineman compete against each other too.

I hear that there was a kid with tons of potential that got kicked out of school. Any truth to this?

The parents that did it had the kids best interest at heart, and also looked at what other successful schools were doing. Those people wanted Minford Football to be able to compete and become respectable, and in large part that goal has been accomplished. Minford is now in the talk every year of being one of the top teams around, and I don't care what anyone says it's becuase of the pee-wee system. Overhauling it like was done was one of the best things to ever happen for Minford Football.
