Congrats to him. He is a great talent. Could be an ideal situation for him to redshirt and sit behind Collaros (sp?) for a couple years. Kelly is a great coach and really has something going there with the talent is Cincinnati. I just don't think he's gonna stay. If if they move Roback to receiver, it's still a chance at a BCS school. Awsome.

I don't think he's the only D1 player on that team either. From what I saw last night at the previews, Kretzer looks to me like a possible D1 reciever or basketball player. He's a great athlete. Maybe better than Roback.

No one said you can't state your opinion. Just remember that you are talking about a 17 year old kid.

Derek just turned 18 a week ago. Saying someone won't play at a div 1 BCS School that just recruited him is not an opinion, it is a negative comment. I am pretty sure coach Hinton at UC has a little better handle on it than most of the posters on this website. They don't make those offers to just anyone they think could help them some day, you know.

John, If Derek graduates early will he have to do it at the semester or will it be at the end of the third nine weeks?
At the semester he will not be finishing the basketball team will he?

In order to be eligible in grades 9-12, a student must be currently enrolled and must have
been enrolled in school the immediately preceding grading period. Furthermore, during the
preceding grading period, the student must have received passing grades in a minimum of
five (5) one-credit courses or the equivalent, each of which counts toward graduation.
EXCEPTION 1: The Commissioner’s office may waive this requirement for a student in
her/his 12th and final year of school who (a) has accumulated sufficient credit hours to have
graduated in the preceding semester; (b) maintains a grade point average in the top ten percent
of the student’s class; and (c) can demonstrate that the underlying purposes of this
bylaw have been otherwise fulfilled by the student.

You said he couldn't play QB. That is what he was recruited to play.

I would just like to say that I am a friend of the family. If you all really know Derek, I am sure you know that he is a quality young man. He is an excellent student and a better human being. Isn't this what we want out of all our student atheletes. Everything he gains in football (or any sport for that matter) is icing on the cake. We all should be thrilled that someone of SE ohio is getting this much attention. Everyone can put there two cents in on the football side, and I guess that is what this is all about, but let's not forget how trying this time in a young mans life can be. If you know Derek and his family wish them well, and be positive, because if this were your child, they would do the same for you.

Good luck to this young man.
I just do not like the graduate early/spring practice rule.
It shows "meat factory" side of college football.

This kid sure is one heck of a young man. About this time last year a family member from one of his friends who played on the football and baseball team with him passed away. He was the first to show up, he gave up going to hang out and watch a basketball game to come and see if that young man and his family was okay. This young man is full of admiration for not only the game itself, but for other people around him. A great young man, well deserving at whatever life hands him. Good luck to him in the future!
