My young son along with others had PAID to be inside the main fence and had PAID for the right to stand there. In 2 years when we return to Athens, you had better plan on buying a ticket as I know where I along with many others will be standing.

Not trimble youth league but used to be involved in Athens youth league and my son did NOT deserve the way that TRASH treated him. In 2 years they will not see a play if I have anything to do with it.The Enforcer wrote:The Group I was with was also cussed and threatened when We were standing there, I was told the Guy who owns th House , Runs Trimbles Youth leagueNYBUX wrote: As for the cheering at the Athens score, I for one hoped they would win and did not cheer. A couple problems with your theory. In some of those games Nelsonville was the higher seed, so the team they were facing would not have made the playoffs in the previous years either. Also, this was supposed to be one of, if not the best team in Nelsonville history. Yet they can't beat a team that will most likely lose in the next round. Boston Sr. and/or Meade would have won some playoff games with some of those teams IMO. I do like your point about losing close games in some of the playoff games and know the the better coached teams usually win close games.First, we have expanded playoffs now. Many of the NY teams that qualified for the playoffs since 2000 have been a 5-8 seed. Those teams would not have qualified for the playoffs under the old system when only the top 4 teams qualified. Likewise, even this years NY team would not have qualified back when only the top 2 teams in the region made it to the playoffs. The teams from the 80s and 90s that had playoff success were in most cases ranked 1 or 2 in the region at seasons end. I don't believe any NY team since 2000 has finished ranked that high in the region. This is even more impressive when you realize that there were fewer divisions back then too - only 5. And there were only 3 divisions until 1980.
Lets face facts. Nelsonville played two good teams this year, and lost to both of them. Just like Trimble played 3 good teams this year and lost to all three of them. Both teams have been successful over the past several years. However, both programs have similar problems, and they run deep. But apparently placing second in the league and then losing in the first round of the playoffs has taken the place of winning the league and losing in the first round of the playoffs, and is now the new version of acceptable.

FANOSPORTS....PPL in the stands do see a different game then the players and coaches. I have a good friend on the staff that did give me some insight this weekend. Your 6'4 rec'v was covered up on a 5'10 DB. However, if you could see the safety (deep cvr 2) was shading his way all night. Taking away anything long. Did you also see that there D-ends played soft and went into pass coverage taking away slants? They also did a good job of "Getting in there face" the first 2 or 3 yards which slowed down there pass routes. So for the commen fan sitting in the stands things might look that easy. So you in your buddies might need some coaching 101 before you speak what you think you see. I would hate to be a coach, or a coach's wife having to listen to all the
great advise from the stands. That would have to suck!
The boys played their butts off. My daughter says the seniors are great group of kids, a very tight knit group. I am proud of them, as I am sure their parents are. They finished with 3 TVC Ohio Championships and made the state playoffs 3 times.
I was also not happy to hear us cheering at the Athens score. Athens is a great rival. They are part of the TVC Ohio. I wanted them to win. Whats wrong with you ppl? Go Bucks! Work hard, push each other to be the best!

NY was the lower seed that would not have qualified for the playoffs in 5 of the 8 years. The exceptions were Columbus Academy, Liberty Union and Portsmouth West. In those three years, NY was the higher seed, but was still not a top 2 seed. NY was lucky to draw a private school in the first year. In the second year, NY lost to LU by one point and LU had a deep playoff run that year. This years game with West was the third home loss. The other five times, NY was the lower seed that would not have qualified - @ Ashland Crestview, @ Monroe Central, @ Amanda Clearcreek, @ East Knox and @ Minford.
So under the original playoff format thru the 80s, no NY team this century would have qualified for the playoffs.
Under the first expanded playoffs of the top 4 in the region, only 3 NY teams would have made the playoffs - '06, '08 and '11.
The top NY teams that advanced far in the playoffs went undefeated and were a #1 or #2 seed in most years. The only NY team to advance in the playoffs that did not go undefeated was the '98 Buckeyes who finished 9-3 and Region 19 Runner Up. This was also NY's first year in Division V - Losses to Logan and Meigs in the regular season. Regional Semifinal win over a 10-0 Valley team, and then a Regional Final loss to Wheelersburg.
Other than '98, NY has only won playoff games during undefeated years.
Boston Sr won 4 playoff games, including a State Championship in '81 and a Regional Championship/State SemiFinalist in '82. This was when only the top 2 teams made the playoffs, so 3 playoff wins in a row meant you were State Champion.
Meade won 3 playoff games when only the top 4 teams made the playoffs, finishing as Regional Runner Up in '94, '97 and '98.
Boston Jr has never won a playoff game. However, only 3 of his teams would have made the playoffs under the playoff rules of Meade's tenure and none of his teams would have made the playoffs under the playoff rules of Boston Sr's tenure.
I'll compare the '11 Buckeyes to past teams in a thread later this week.
Re: DV R19 Qtrs: Ports West (9-1) @ Nelsonville-York (9-1)
^^^^ Yes and some of those teams they played would not have made the playoffs during those other formats either. The fact is they made the playoffs and lost. It's not like they were the 8 seed every time playing the 1 seed. We all know that not every region ends up with the 1 seed playing the 2 seed in the regional final every year. Some of those lower seeds are winning playoff games. Did Meade and Boston Sr. always have the higher seed when they won playoff games? During most of the recent years NY hasn't beaten a team outside the TVC with a winning record. Also, the TVC Ohio has been down over those years compared to earlier years. Meade and Boston Sr. beat logan when they won more than 1 game, and I know Meade beat a Jackson team that had maybe one other loss. So what has been the signature wins, or win for that matter, of the current era Buckeyes?

Re: DV R19 Qtrs: Ports West (9-1) @ Nelsonville-York (9-1)
I know there was a lot of talk last week about a potential Valley-West rematch for the Region 19 Championship. Obviously, those of us from the SOC would love that scenario to play out. It also seemed pretty apparent that a few people took offense to some of the posts calling for that rematch. I understand, as some posters were (as will always be the case no matter what teams are involved) a little more brash than others. But, in all seriousness, now that we are in Week 12, I would like to know what the fans from NY/TVC think about West and what they think about the possibility of an all SOC Regional Final. Obviously, both Valley and West are going to be playing two very good football teams this week. I want to take absolutely nothing away from those games. I'm simply looking for perspective from some of our SEO brethren from the TVC.
By the way, congrats to NY on a tremendous season and best of luck in the future!
