It's been nice to read some football posts along with some light-hearted posts, blended with a few baby-daddy posts 8)

Its extremely gratifying to see the kids and staff pull out an upset win. We haven't had one that big since we beat Rock Hill in 07 after getting throttled by Portsmouth and Sheridan.
Valley is probably a region title contender. They look, play, and have a roster that fits the part. West started slow, but there is definitely talent there. As of right now (and if the win the games they should) they are a playoff team.
However, other than last year, Valley has never physically dominated West. If Valley pounds the football, they will run into some trouble. I can't see either team putting up a ton of points. Valley is older and probably a little more talented, but West will definitely be a thorn in their side.
I'm curious if any Valley posters think this game will get out of hand? If someone were setting a line what would it be?

Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
Honestly, if I was putting a line on this game. I would probably have Valley as an 8 point favorite just because the history of the past few years and the heated rivalry that has been created between the 2 schools. I don't look for this game to get out of hand and don't see it getting decided until the 4th quarter. I would love to see it get out of hand in Valleys favor, but I just don't see that happening.sider wrote:I think its actually the West Portsmouth topix thread, but I am just picking nits, haha.the trophy case wrote:as i was catching up on thread,

Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
I don't think it will get out of hand. I've already posted that I think Valley will win by double-figures, but I don't think it'll be out of hand. I personally think it'll be in the range of 28-6 or 28-14, Indians.
Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
My guess would be 28-6 If the soph lineman and Dunn are healthy if not 21-13 should be a packed stadium
Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
I thought Valley was more physical in the game that the Indians won 28-20 @ Valley a few years ago....havent personally attended any of the others, I was at that game.sider wrote:I think its actually the West Portsmouth topix thread, but I am just picking nits, haha.the trophy case wrote:as i was catching up on thread,

That has nothing to do with this year of course, and thats JMO.
I dont think this game will get "Out of hand", but I do think Valley will wear West down.
Line: Valley -9.5/48.5
End of 1
Valley 14
West 0
Half
Valley 21
West 8
End 3
Valley 27
West 16
Final:
Valley 34
West 22
Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
Yes, Crab's Bro, Valley was more physical in 2011. West had a slight edge in team speed, that's how they scored. But, Valley did not physically manhandle West. It was just a great high school football game.
I like all of the predictions I would set the line at -10 for Valley and the over/under at around 40...I think if goes more than 40, West is getting beaten badly...however if it stays in the low to mid 20s, West wins. They must keep Valley grounded, they have some explosive kids and a decent passing game.

Re: WEST at VALLEY!!! Thoughts!?!?!
Dunn rolled an ankle in the first half last week but finished the half and then did not come back out in pads after halftime. I would think that if the score wasn't already 27-0, Hayden would have played so I have no doubt that he will be good to go. The sophomore lineman, Jordan Spradlin, will also be good to go after a slight knee problem kept him out last week. He did dislocate a finger last night that they couldn't pop back in, but I don't see that as an issue.local superstar wrote:What happened to Dunn?izladoom wrote:My guess would be 28-6 If the soph lineman and Dunn are healthy if not 21-13 should be a packed stadium
I think a line on this game in the 8-14 range sounds about right. I have now watched a few of the Wests' games and they defiantly play very hard. They were very effective getting the edge on Minford and they made them pay. I think that will be a little harder to do this week, but if they do, they will be effective in the run game. I think Irwin is doing a pretty good job in the passing game, but one of the constants for Valley so far has been a great pass rush. By my best count, the Indians first team defense has not giving up a passing touchdown since week 1 to Portsmouth. I also believe they have given up about 130 yards (Starters only) in the last four weeks. The Indians have had substantial leads in all those games, yet teams still haven't been able to throw. Valley also has 3 pick sixes so far.
Another area that I see as a big advantage for Valley is in the kicking game. The Indians have weapons at Kicker and Punter and have had several huge returns this season. West did not (on film) look very strong in the kicking game.
The only thing I know for sure is that there will be a packed house and the split-the-pot will be a nice payday.

Re: (3-3) West @ (6-0) Valley
That is assuming that Ironton and Southeastern win the games they are predicted to win. I don't think Ironton will win 4 games and likely will finish with 2-3 wins which would put them out. Southeastern really hasn't beaten anyone and their remaining games could go either way. It would be interesting if West had to play weeks 10 and 11 @ Wheelersburg....nutronron2012 wrote:There is alot riding on this game.

Re: (3-3) West @ (6-0) Valley
This is exactly why the BCS didn't work. You can't just put a bunch of numbers in a computer and get the answers. There is no number to put on how much desire a kid has to win. Just look Minford was a 23 point favorite lost by 7. I mean I could say well by looking at these numbers since Minford was favored by more points than Valley then West should win by 10. I'm not calling out anyone here, thank you nutron2012 for posting this. One thing I have always told kids is to play every game like its your last, every play likes its your last. If you do this what ever is meant to be will be. Leave it all on the field and let the chips fall where they may. Numbers are nice to look at but in the big picture they don't hold a lot of weight. Best of luck to both teams hope for a injury free game for both teams. Just wish I didn't have to work.nutronron2012 wrote: Week 6: Won 35-28 H vs #303 Minford (5-1, D4 R14), pick: L by 23
