At Minford we have a lot of talent going thru the entire system right now. The freshman class was undefeated in 8th grade and will blend well with this year's 8th graders that only lost 1 game. When you look at the talent in the Sophomore class it makes me feel even better about the future. These seniors this year need to set the tone for the future by finishing strong and showing the underclass men how to work hard every day and be focused moving forward!!

I certainly agree the talent is there, but the schedule needs to be greatly improved immediately, b/c when these kids get to be Seniors you want them mentally and physically conditioned to playing stronger programs. Some of these teams that Minford beats by 40 points and go 3-7 at best, that are still on the schedule, are only hurting the Falcon program in the long run. If the powers that be at Minford cannot see lack of scheduling good programs is not problematic, then you are going to have year after year of underachieving.

I definitely agree. My oldest son is in that 8th grade class that someone above mentioned and that is definitely one of my biggest concerns. I caution him all the time that while the success they've had should inspire confidence, they are now at the age where being challenged on a consistent basis is very important. I believe that those kids have a good grasp on the "system" at this point (although that is something the coaching staff is much more qualified to evaluate than I'll ever be). Now it's going to boil down to how the grow physically and mentally, and being challenged on a consistent basis is a big part of that. Obviously I'm a Valley guy, but with a son in Minford's program I will most definitely follow the Falcons as well. Plus I coached a lot of these kids coming thru the system in pee wee football and basketball. There are some really quality kids with strong family support coming thru the Minford system. Hopefully the schedule will take the next step with them, and the chips will fall where they may.Vladimir wrote:I certainly agree the talent is there, but the schedule needs to be greatly improved immediately, b/c when these kids get to be Seniors you want them mentally and physically conditioned to playing stronger programs. @NewEra: The Jr. High started their season with Jackson they also had Gallia on for the past two years, then the SOCII schedule. They did beat both theses teams. In 2010 & 2011, Minford had Chillicothe with the 7th winning both years and the 8th grade losing by a TD in 2011 at Chillicothe. Chillicothe was replaced with Gallia in 2012. The Jr. high has went 17-1 in the past two years, with the only loss to West this year by a TD.

And with a lot of depth, as I know you already know. If you could, relay a special thanks to coach Gammon for our preseason talk and for the way he and his staff continued to work with my son on the field as well as in their conversations.Vladimir wrote:@NewEra: The Jr. High started their season with Jackson they also had Gallia on for the past two years, then the SOCII schedule. The freshmen class this year went 15-1 in JR High. This class won the SOC championships in Football, basketball and Track as 8th graders. This will be the class to watch along with the sophomore and 8th grade in High school.

^ Just need to keep those boys together and keep them coming out for football. I'm surprised no one has ever mentioned soccer as being detrimental all area football programs. I can think of three that would probably be starting in football, that decided to go out for soccer when they got into high school.
