Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
but this is not, I repeat not a trait of ironton football. always before the tigers were the hunters not the prey. they were better conditioned, stronger, more determined. and a lot of teams were beat when they stepped off the bus.they were maulers. I talked with Cincinnati cape's coach one time during those storied rivalries. he told me nobody gets after it and hits you harder than ironton. and he said the fans were the same way. he told me it was the most intimidating place he'd ever coached at. everybody had an attitude. come see if you can come knock the chip off the shoulder.---------------------somewhere along the line we have minimalized that. whether it's video games, decrease in students, or just a decrease in interest overall. that's what we gotta get back. some programs have lost their fear and respect for ironton's teams presently. that's a line that can't be crossed without consequences.ironton has been gritty the last few years, but not really what I'd call hungry. we need to start a new generation of fighting tigers that are gnashing from the minute they leave the locker room home or away. it sounds like we have the horses to do that now. can we cross that bridge and dare someone to try to cross it. we'll see in a couple of weeks. because burg will be ready for us.and for all the ovc teams who've watched ironton slip into reverse some and suddenly everybody wanted a piece. well you asked for it and sister you got it.------so let's see what happens. regardless of the outcome these 2 better be bringing it. the big thing with burg is surviving that relentless hurry up offense, and not letting that exhaust you, then you get your lunch ate by a long pass. ironton should be in hurry up mode from now till the 28th. one way or another somebody is going to get a well deserved w. which will be a bonanza of points for the rest of the season.i'm purty dang excited if you cain't tell

Exactly when did you play sir?IBTT wrote:Back when I was playing Burg was a real joke. We thought of them like a south point or rock hill. They have came a long way since those days and Ironton isnt what they used to be either. I believe a lot comes with the mind set. Kids who believe in themselves can do just about anything. Back then you could put Ironton up against anyone and they would have a chance. Burg back then was like everyone else, they feared Ironton. Now that isn't the case. I don't believe either team fears either, however there isn't one team walking into the game with a chip on their shoulder asking the other to please knock it off. Ironton back then would have been ashamed to have lost to Burg. Truth!! Not now by any stretch.
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
In the 80s. Thing is Burg did have some good teams and even won a championship the same year Ironton did, but the mind set that we held, I didn't say Burg was a joke, we considered if and when we had to play them it would be a joke. I know they too had the kahunas to take on cape. They got beat by cape, but took them on. It was just our attitude back in those days. We had a chip on our shoulders. It didn't matter who it was, we were going to suit up and if you didn't come to play you were going to get beat. Ironton took down some big dogs back in those days. To us, Burg was a small little team that wouldn't have a chance. Yes we were cocky. But we believed in ourselves. Somewhere along the way we have lost that. Now it's anyone's game and Ironton don't scare teams quite as much when their bus rolls in. We had most teams beat back then before we stepped off the bus. That I have been told by numerous area coaches who have since retired for the most part. One is still coaching that told me a story about his team seeing that Tiger bus pull in.

I remember as a soph. in like 76 scrimmaging the burg. we played them then at the lower levels, but not high school.they brought enourmous crowds, and the band I believe, no joke.
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Burg 28-21
Both teams make some mental mistakes in the first half.second half is a back and forth game.burg scores late to win.

Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Kids are alot different nowadays. I remember the days when you didn't like kids from other schools the only time you ever associated with them was either in a game or in a fight. Now with all the travel ball, Facebook and insta gram alot of these kids are all buddies. Which is great but it is just not the same as it once was. Hey Bait you been staying away from them hornets nest. You're Tiger Bait wrote:but this is not, I repeat not a trait of ironton football. always before the tigers were the hunters not the prey. they were better conditioned, stronger, more determined. and a lot of teams were beat when they stepped off the bus.they were maulers. Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Heard the other day Irontons quarterback threw a ball almost 50 yards off his back foot for a perfect strike. Ironton has a very strong offense this year from everything I have seen this year. Depth at all positions. Passing game is the strongest in years. With that being said, as long as it is used just a little, Paladino, Barker and Young should be very hard to stop. Defensively, I have to say Ironton has finally seemed to have figured out how to cover the pass. Looking real good at that. As far as stopping the run, the line is probably the strongest we have had in many years all the way across, with our linebackers as solid as they come. This could be a good season for the Tigers. These last two weeks are very important. Hopefully everyone keeps learning and working as hard as they have so far. Looking Good. Tigers 33-10!!

Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
IBTT, how many years did you play on those Ironton teams and how many times did you actually get in a game?
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Why would you ask that? Do you know how many coaches in the NFL have never played football in the NFL? Or are you one of those people who were a great or thought you were a great athlete back in high school so you now think you are an authority? I played two seasons and I had plenty of playing time both seasons in high school myself. They were my freshman and sophomore seasons as I went to work my junior year as a necessity. Wish I could have played my final two years, was asked to play by the coaches, I enjoyed the game and did well at it. How about you. Were you all state and then all American in college and now believe you know more than anyone else on here. This is a forum for people to discuss what they think. If you disagree with me so be it. Most people on here aren't all Americans, however I enjoy talking to them when I get the chance as long as they aren't thinking because they were the starting tackle in high school made them too good to talk to someone like me. I have friends who are former pros. Actually numerous ones. All of them are as down to earth as anyone I have ever met. None of them ever downgrade anyone whether they played a day of football or were also in the league. So your point was what?
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Amazing when I see people who think their Al Bundy status makes them better than someone else. When I was in high school I set the record for... Who cares? I'm 43 years old and have a kid now. Really?
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
Just wouldn't want to confuse people with any misperceptions. You make it sound like you were part of an awful lot when it comes to Ironton football, but those of us from Ironton actually know the facts and it gets embarrassing at times how you represent Ironton around here.
Re: WHEELERSBURG @IRONTON.WEEK 1 -YOUR THOUGHTS.
I believe you are a complete embarrassment by trying to live your life in your high school days bud. Looks like you might want to grow up and get on with your life. This isn't 1989 anymore. Life does go on. There is more to life than your championship ring. Yes it was a fun time in Ironton sports history, but that has been 25 years ago. Just because you played on that team if you did, don't make you any bit more an authority about anything other than maybe what happened in the locker room between games 25 years ago. This thread is about Ironton vs wheelersburg 2015. Move on in life mr. Sunshine.
