this was a good ball game, both have great teams

not many teams could turn the ball over 4 times to 0, against Burg, and still get beat , only by one score.

congrats to Burg on remaining undefeated

Congrats to both teams. Excellent game that could have went either way. It did come down to mistakes and Burg beat the Falcons there, but if it was not for the deep interception and fumble we could be seeing a lot of different threads on here. As a true Minford fan it is hard to give the Burg their due, but they played a tough game. I'm just saying that Minford was had better chances of scoring than Burg. The only chances Burg had they scored. Minford had 3 opportunities to Burg's 2!! I would not rely on lady luck and her turnovers to win you the next meeting!! Good game both teams and congrats to both!!!
GO FALCONS!!!!!! Beat West next week!!!!

Rely on Lady Luck?? How about rely on an excellent defense?? Just as the Burg has done since the first game of the year.

I watched the game. It was hard fought and I agree the refs made some questionable calls - both ways.

Someone posted that Minford did not return the punts and kick-offs. They tried to return one and Craigmiles creamed him almost the instant he caught the ball. Craigmiles was so fast he reached the Falcon the same time the ball did!

There was a clear off sides on Wheelersburg in the 3rd quarter (I think) that was so obvious that if they missed it they should no longer referee. On the facemask call against Wheelersburg how could it be first and 12 when a 15 yard penalty was assessed? Just wondering. on the 2nd Minford fumble wasnt the ball dead. Could have sworn I heard a whistle with Minford still in possession. Some of this crew was the same crew from the Wellston game and both sides complained about them at that game.

minford needs to be more aggressive on the punt returns. you cant let a punt roll 10-20 yards and just watch it. this happened a few times. pick the ball up and run. the turnovers well they speak for themselves.

I believe on the 2nd Falcon fumble that Williams was still churning for yards, which the Falcons did well all night, so in that case it was hard for the refs to blow the ball dead when he is still moving forward. The Pirate defender did what they are taught and that is to come from behind and knocked the ball away. The offsides, I'll give you was close. He didn't make contact and not really sure if he was across the line, but that is also pushing in knowing whether or not Minford would have scored on that drive. We can all second guess this drive or that drive and blog about it on here until we are blue in the face.

I'd have to disagree with you on the number of chances to score. Burg had the ball at the 30 twice and was driving the ball, when they had two penalties. One a personal foul, that I didn't see anyone do anything, so it must have been something that was said on the bottom of the pile and then Burg had holding called on a run by J Schank down to about the 15, so there is two more possible scoring drives by the Burg.

Burg's defense had that bend but break mentality. When Minford got close, Burg tightened up the "D" and held the Falcons from scoring. I think the big thing for Minford was after the botched snap on the punt and Minford recoverd on about the Burg 30, they came away with no points as the Burg defense held them out. No fumble or interception on the drive, just good ol' defense.

Anyone coming away from this game not thinking they just saw two very good teams are not true sports fans. If this game would have been shown live on ESPN, it would have been an instant classic. It was that good. Can't wait to watch it on TWC on demand.

Great game by both Teams! Big points win for a good Burg Team ! How many was at that game last nite?
When you turn over the ball 4 times, most likely you will not win. Falcon`s will need to regroup this week, and prepair for a tough game with West. Rember Seniors; this is you last regular Season Home game. Go Out A WINNER !
To Wheelersburg, Good luck the rest of the season, and hope to meet again later this year !
(Face mask call was legit! Runner shoved up on the tacklers face mask, and the tackler pulled him down by the front of his sholder pads. )
Go Falcons !

I don't think anyone is questioning the facemask call. It didn't factor into the outcome of the game. :12223 Any Burg fan in the stands wouldn't have a clue as the play was on the other side of the field and away from us. All we saw was a great stiff arm, but if he grabbed the facemask, then that is a no-no and it was a good call.

I'm watching the ONN sports site with JJ and the other two puds on it and so far, no mention of any team down here in Southeast Ohio. Just shows you that we get no respect down here still. Biggest game of the area and can't get a mention. How can they call themselves the Ohio sports site show if they aren't going to cover the whole state? Same ol' crap. JJ is probably just pi$$ed off that everyone from this part of the state has left his old site (now owned by bucknuts) because we couldn't get any love in any sport.

That was a very good high school game last night. I would just like to add that Rob Woodard has done a fabulous job in his first year at the Burg. Consider that you come into your first year as coach, 6 or 7 seniors on the team for leadership and maybe 5 playing first team.throw a bunch of Jrs several Soph, to boot you lose your starting quarterback in the first game and still be 7-0. I say Rob and his staff are the best in the county. I for one am glad Tony Lewis is back in Indiana.

I agree Burgtown, I think both of these schools have good new, and newer coaches. Daniels and Woodard are proving themselves week after week, it was evident last night that those two had their teams ready to play and their wasnt any real surprises as they were well coached.

Congrats to the Burg, you guys have a very good ball team. I hope we get to meet up again in the playoffs....IMO the difference in the game was turnovers and the fans, Wheelersburg fans were fantastic, and Minfords...well not so much.

They may have had 3 chances BUT Minford's lone TD came from a Blown Coverage!
If Hopper would've been on the slot receiver he MAY ( and I stress may) have not caught that! But having to run across the field and then catch a guy that is VERY fast and is in a dead sprint!! He was toasted! So Yes they had more chances but that one that got away may not have even been!

But the 3 chances is also a testimony to Burg's DEF!

GREAT game played by two GREAT teams! They may meet again in the playoffs!

Sorry Rob, I meant to say Woodward, slow with the fingers this morning. I also meant to add that this wouldn't be possible without your able assistant coaches.

I don't know about that. Daniels was on the SportsLine this morning talking about how great the Minford fans were and there were times he could hardly hear the coaches on the headset because the Minford side was so loud. I know there were a couple of players who said they were having a hard time hearing the count because of the crowd. One nice thing, they are football savy enough to know to go on movement.

Two very good football teams and an excellent game. Minford has nothing to hang their heads about. This game will make them a stronger team. Anytime you are -4 on turnovers, yet keep the game this close you have played an excellent game. Minford (and Wheelersburg) played strong for 4 quarters and that is all you can ask. I would love to see a re-match about week 12......except this time in Falconland.

This week is senior week and senior night. There needs to be another huge crowd at Minford on Friday. I expect a good week of practice and a Minford team that is focused and ready to play. Go Falcons!

Region 19 has the makings to change quite a bit over the next 3 weeks. Burg won't get much help this week as far as computer points go. If Minford can beat West, they will help.

I look for No. 2 in the region, Nelsonville York to lose to Ironton in week 9, so that will cause them to drop.

I think if West loses this week to Minford, they will have to beat Burg in week 10 jsut to get in.

Should be fun to watch the next 3 weeks of how all the scenarios play out. If Burg beats NW and Waverly and the loses to West, they will still host a game in week 11.

A rematch in week 12 can't happen in "Falconland" as the top 4 teams get the home game in week one of the playoffs, with the rest of the games played at a neutral site. I would guess that the rematch would be played at Spartan stadium, (which I hate watching a game there). My vote would be for Valley, but I don't think they have enough seating for all of the people that would be at this game.

I have to agree with you though on the Minford crowd. I thought they were very loud at times. Very nice following by the Minford faithful.

Wheelersburg's defense was outstanding...of course you're gonna give up some yards because of the size difference, but they are AWSOME. It seems like someone always makes a big play in the right time, Minford was a good team but in my mind i think burg should have scored atleast 2 more times if it werent for the personal fouls on the 20 yd line....good game to both, btw minford finished the job on the victory bell last night, yes it's gone, but what do they want it for?....Maybe they are ringing it So the Burg doesnt have to...hahaha Great Win!

1 and 2 will not play in week 11.
1 plays 8, and 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, and 4 plays 5.
