Re: SEOAL 2010
Because the poster was obviously doing a hitjob on FB, may as well vent my spleen as well --
Pennsylvania has lots of problems. As far as financing schools, there all they need to do to raise taxes is for the school board to vote to do it -- not the voters. Presto ! Higher taxes and they are at nose bleed levels there now, much, much worse than Ohio's. Title IX proponents still resent the fact that attendance for FB is high while girls sports suffer from little fan interest and therefore little attendance. Pa. has learned the hard way that they have slipped behind Ohio in FB superiority as many teams duck playing their Ohio counterparts. This situation was exacerbated several years ago when Ohio put together a string of victories in the Big 33 game between the All Star teams of Ohio vs. Pa. The good folks in Hershey decided to switch the game date to coincide with Ohio's North-South All Star game and bleed the Ohio talent who had to decide which game they would play in. Presto ! The Big 33 game went from being a blowout for Ohio teams to being competitve again & Pa winning the game and not being embarrassed anymore with the previous non-competitve games with Ohio. Since Ohio has moved the date of their North-South game, Pa. will be forced to pay an Ohio team at full stength again, starting this year. Finally, Still waiting for good old JoeRoberts to identify the school in question. In Ohio, virtually all FB equipment is bought by booster clubs who raise the money, donate it to the schools general fund ( per Ohio law) and then the school pays for it. The normal bills for FB ( coaches salaries, officals, travel) are paid from ticket sales easily and fund other sports. Not sure what Pa's law is on buying equipment as they have booster clubs as well, but here is one newspaper article ( with no reporter name, hmmmmm??) that lacks complete clarity and smells of a lack of openess and honesty in reporting "the facts". Since I'm close to W.Pa and its FB programs its safe to note the decline of not only population in Pa., but also kids interest in FB as well as many communities that have dropped interest & support in FB. TImes change. Otherwise, its also safe to report, unless schools are financially strapped and institute "pay for Play" programs, Ohio remains a state where FB makes alot of money & with the booster clubs, fund all sports programs.

Re: SEOAL 2010
but thats easy to figure and no amount of facts can compete against this. We have a 1 really fast kids out of lets say 50 kids. we have a super fast kids 1 out of every 100 kids. we have 600 kids to choose from. that gives us 6 super fasts and 12 really fast kids. 1/3 of them choose soccer. that leaves 4 super fast kids and 8 really fast kids. in our county divide that by 3 schools hey we each get a couple of fast kids.
now lets go metro they have in frankin county wow how many kids? lets say 18000 because of same genetics lets say they have same percentages wow our county cant compete with there county out of sheer #s
anyone with any math sense surely understands that!!
Also trojandave, who I usually agree with as a whole. reason portsmouth hasn't won as much in recent years as in the past is because of the # of schools in the outlining areas of your county pulling family and talent away from portsmouth. Kids move around to where other talent is so they as a whole can become better/win. unfortunately for portsmouth they are losing more than they gain. and thats because of the close proximity of the other schools to your district.
same applies to metro schools. everyone talks about these powerhouses in the metro areas etc. funning thing that no one ever brings up in these discussions is that if you are in a 8 team league and each of you played each other thats a total of 28 games if 1 of those teams won all 7 of their games and 2nd place won 6 3rd won 5 there are only 10 wins left to share among other 5 teams. maybe if those other 5 teams scheduled up they would get better. but wait these teams do this year in and year out they have the occasional good year. but no one talks about them. they only reference the 8-0 #1 team and how everyone should be like them.

Re: SEOAL 2010
I agree Gahs...IF all of this were to go down and Jackson, Gallia, and Warren became members of the TVC (which is a stretch)...but if in fact it became reality, there would be 3 divisions. Not for the fact that TVC schools are afraid to play those 3 teams...but mainly for the fact Gallia, Jackson or Warren wouldnt want a schedule full of Fed Hocks, Wahamas, or Millers...am I correct? Wouldnt it be a much better league and situation if the Division were broken down to reflect school size as they are now with the Ohio and Hocking?
Theres no doubt that Gallia (and their fans) would rather be in a division with DII Athens, (DIII Gallia), DIII Jackson, DIV Meigs, DIII Vinton County, and DII Warren than the likes of Wahama, Miller, Waterford and the other smaller TVC schools. Im not saying they are weaker beacuse some years the smaller schools have the best teams. All im saying is the fact that based on school size, this would work out the best for all the teams I listed. From there down, the TVC would continue with size being the factor in the bottom two divisions with NY, Wellston, Belpre (just to name a few) in the mid division, and Wahama, Gouth Gallia, Miller and Southern in the small division (again, just naming a few). For those from NY who would be against competing in the mid division...Yes i know NY would be very competitive in the upper division in football, but when you look at other sports, thats why I would have them in the mid division. The basketball team has come around at NY very nicely over the past couple of years, and the wrestling team always does well, but other than that, they would struggle with this division. So overall I think they would fit best in the middle.
There may be no Logan or Chillicothe, but I like this league for all the teams. 1 DIV school, 3 DIII, and 2 DII. Good size and great history between them all. Not too mention the longest drive in the league would be Jackson to Warren. Thats not bad considering everyone else is about 45 minutes or less away from each other.

so why would the 3 remaining seoal schools more to the tvc? why not have athens, miegs and vc move to the seoal?? all have been in the seoal at some time in the last 40 yrs.

I would much rather see Gallia, Jackson, and Portsmouth teamed with Waverly, Burg, and PWest in a revamped SOC
Re: SEOAL 2010
87...thats what I was thinking after I made that post... If Jackson Gallia and Warren are the remaining Seoal teams...I would see them going after a couple teams before they completely fold up the Seoal. Its possible Athens would come back...I dont think VC or Meigs would but I would like to see it happen if indeed it was a possibility. Meigs and Athens have been in the Seoal but VC has never been a member. Not sure why they didnt try to get in when they consolidated back in 66 but instead helping create the TVC...? --That question is directed to Run Bubba Run. Hopfully you have an answer to that one. VC is right in the middle of the Seoal but instead went with a TVC that consisted of trips to Fed Hock, Warren, and Belpre....all farther than any of the Seoal schools back then.

Why would Schools move from a perfectly fin league like the TVC to a league that can't keep teams?
Those 6 teams will be the new big school division of the TVC after the SEOAL folds up.

I would have to agree with you on that. Being one of the few Schools Districts that are growing in SEO that may very well be the case. As of right now we are the smallest school in the TVC-Ohio
If you went off school size that would be what it might look like!

175-or 176
Ny gets a little closer every year.
Wellston is shrinking as well as Meigs. I am not sure if Alexander is growing Shrinking or staying about the same.
Re: SEOAL 2010
Well if this were to happen in a couple years then you would probably see NY at DIV status in the big division and Meigs and Wellston in the mid division.
IMO, if the Seoal were made up of Gallia, Jackson and Warren, it would be more appealing to schools like Athens, VC, Meigs/NY for the sake of travel. There would be no long trips. Each league opponent wouldnt be as close as the TVC is now, but it wouldnt be that much farther..and much less travel than the current Seoal is today.

its not that the seoal can't keep teams as much as the league is on the outer fringes of seo. teams come and go, always have always will. this is something the tvc doesn't have to worry about as much. the tvc is inside of the seoal geographic. also all or most of the larger schools in seo are in the seoal. so instead of the tvc having the headache of creating another div. just have all of the larger schools move to the seoal. now will most in the tvc already agree to that..... no.... but all schools on the large school listing play each other yearly or at least for year to year and compete will against each other. throw p-town in there and somewhere and you'd have 2 strong leagues. you still keep the old rivialary games and the big gates.

Re: SEOAL 2010
As times are changing and more leagues are looking to increase strength and REVENUE you might find a change in thinking. Jackson and Gallia have a large following and traveling to Waverly or Burg wouldn't be that bad. If the weaker teams are the ones voting no then it's time to leave them behind. Playing us won't be any harder than battling Waverly or Burg every year. If it's the stronger teams then i have to ask what you're afraid of ? We already play alot of these teams in different sports every year and i don't recall us being this big giant that pushes them around every game.
