I have just as much right to criticize his statement as he has to make it, right?

I honestly believe that if the VC coach would change up his offense, VC would have been in every game thay have played this year. 1-4, The team has one win, the head coach has 4 losses.

Anyone who has any clue knows that everyone involved (players and coaches) deserves some of the credit when they win, and some of the blame when they lose. To blame everything on the coach is ridiculous. For example, the coach didn't get burned on big pass plays, or get big pass interference penalties. I imagine that it will be difficult to turn the season around when players go home and listen to how nothing is their fault and everything is the coaches fault.

Good points, Andy. Perhaps if some players listened to their coaches as intentively as they listen to their parents, we'd all be singing a different tune right now.
I know Coach Yates and his staff are working their tails off to get out of this funk and I know the players hate losing. I can't seem to put my finger on it but something is just missing. The VC team shows signs of greatness, at times. As I said before, perhaps they are only one play away from turning things around. Keep working hard kids, it'll pay off.

Good Luck on Friday.

Isn't this a free country? Why is it considered selfish for someone to choose to better themself? I agree with you about no cohesiveness between little Vikes, jr high and high school. People want to bad mouth mward for his statements about the hometown program. Well, maybe the hometown program isn't living up to what it should. Maybe that's why people are leaving their hometown program to better themself and maybe more are going to leave.

I agree Randy...VC needs to let Coach Yates put his people (quality football people) in place from Lil Vikes all the way up, pick an offense (the wishbone) and run it at every level...then put every position open for competition at every level...the community then needs to get behind the man...have closed practices and teach the basics at every level, no team can be good until it can block and tackle...and build up from there...Coach Yates needs the backing of the administration and let him re build the Vikes from the ground level up.

yates has had three years, and a lot of talent has passed through his system, and he couldn't win with it. Vc doesn't need to get behind their coach they need to go in another direction!!!

Vinton County has had some amazing talent in the past 3 years...Had a duo of running backs that were bruisers...I have seen them play in the past 3 years and they should be alot better than they have been...

I have watched over 95% of Vinton County's football games over the last 8 years. During that 8 year stretch we have had 4 head football coaches. You do the Math, that's 2 years per coach. Not a lot of time to get things done. This community loves to press the panic button, then point that same finger used to press the button in the direction of the head coach.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say VC wins by a touchdown. Certainly, Wellston seems like a sure bet but anything can happen on a Friday night, especially between two long time rivals. Go Vikings!

Everyone is really getting tired of the constant whining about who has transferred to Wellston. We are in week six, they're not coming back so get over it. Vinton County still has some very talented athletes, in case no one has noticed, that still have some winning potential. It's time to get over the fact that one or two kids left and focus on the ones we have. They would appreciate it.

Randy Couture and Viking96, you two keep harping on "get behind your coach, build a program from Lil' Vikes up, stick with something and make it work".....well; you two also have been completely behind the family that turned their back on VC and transfered out!! Make up your minds!!
And you can't build a program from the ground up when you have "daddy's" coaching in Lil' Vikes that "transfer" their kids when they get to high school!!! What loyalty!!!
Not so long ago we had a coach that took the Vikes to state play-offs, and how did we thank him?? We fired him! Okay, he quit, but why? Our administration chased him out!!
People are not loyal to communities, they are selfish and only loyal to themselves!

I am loyal to my Vikes! VC 14 W 13

Three years is long enough! Try something NEW!!!

I think that the OHSAA is cracking down on the transferring. Did I read somewhere that they are going to require whole families to open enroll?

I have not heard anything as to the OHSAA making any changes in the way they handle their matters. If you expect them to get involved with any school sytem or in any situation for that matter, you had better have some strong evidence.
