I think it will be great when South Gallia finally gets a track.

Why would anyone want a track around a football field?

Nike offers grant money to schools if they build tracks with new facilities. They are trying to revive track and field as a high school sport because many schools have dropped it.

SG has both sports and have decent numbers in both. Maybe Trimble should drop football. They are in worse financial shape than Gallia Co. Schools. What you just said doesn't even make sense.

Now I don't know if that would be a game I would be itching to play monster. SG is not at the same level as a program as Trimble, but I like your spirit.

why in the world would a school drop one of its moneymaking sports?

In most schools, the other sports get money to spend for uniforms etc from football and basketball.

This game needs to get scheduled. If for no other reason than that half the posters on here will have to shut up and eat crow, no matter which team wins.

KarlAgathon, my earlier post about Nike, do you know if they still do that?

http://www.nikebiz.com/responsibility/c ... k_program/

It's a matching grant program and I think that they want recipients to use a certain type of surfacing (recycled tennis shoes) on the project.

It certainly would be worth looking into.

Nike's grassroots program provides funding for playing surface's as well as needs like bleachers, scoreboards, etc. If I remember correctly, schools can receive up to fifty thousand dollars for these types of needs. Karl is right, they are attempting to promote recycled rubber from shoes for playing surfaces.

Now imagine the scenario where the community could raise $50K for the project and Nike would match... that much money would go a long way on a project.

My bad....I got some names mixed up. The NFL promotes a program called "Grass Roots" for the same types of needs for fields. The program that I described earlier does come from Nike however.

That KarlAgathon is the brainy one of the family. Apparently, I can't reveal his identity, so I blocked out some letters in his last name. I'm sorry boogered, did you think you were the smart one!! :122248 :122248

Being the chemistry and physics teacher of the bunch makes me believe that it is safe to say that I am very intelligent.

It is ok; I forgive you for the cheap shot.

Just get this thread back to the topic at hand.

There is a committee called "Gridiron for Gallia" which is set up to head the process. There are people from both RV and SG working on it. They have started selling Bricks that will be installed in the walkway of the entrances to the new facilities. The cost for the bricks are as follows:

1 4 x 8 Brick @$150 or 2 4 x 8 brick for $275
1 8 x 8 brick @$275

You can purchase a brick for either school or for both schools.

Just a little more information

Orders will be accepted until all spaces are filled

You will receive a receipt letter confirming your contribution and tax deductibility.

For each brick, print your inscription in upper case letters, exactly as it should appear on your brick. Maximum of 18 characters, including spaces and punctuation, per line. Text wil be centered on brick.

Gridiron for Gallia reserves the right to review all text for appropriateness.

Mail form and payment (made payable to Gridiron for Gallia) to: Gallia County Local Schools, 230 Shawnee Lane, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 Attention: Gridiron for Gallia Brick Campaign

Maybe this can help some!
