This was the team I had been expecting to see most of the year. We dominated the line of scrimmage and time of possession. The post-game radio show said Chillicothe had a net 0 (zero) yards rushing for the night. Coach Hinton sounded incredibly frustrated in the post-game radio show saying that Gallia Academy played the kind of ball the he would like his team to play tonight. He said they lined up behind big #71 and ran right at us and we had no answer for it. High praise from a legendary High School coach.

Brandon Taylor had 180ish yards rushing running mostly behind Stephen Atkins and Aaron Guisinger. Cody Russell did a great job gaining significant yardage in the second half when Chillicothe started keying on Taylor. Zack Tackett was outstanding in his expanded role as FB. The coaching staff mixed in a couple of nice outside runs and play action passes out of running formations when Chillicothe got to stacking the box too much. The coaching staff shuffled the offensive line and I thought moving Briggs Shoemaker to guard paid big dividends in that he did a fantastic job picking up the blitz that we've struggled with most of the year. It was a nice win all around and the entire team and coaching staff performed well.
Congratulations on a good win. Fantastic game plan.
Moving some offensive linemen to different positions was a great move by the coaching staff.
It was a TEAM victory in every sense of the word.
I am going to miss seeing #10 on the field for GAHS next year, he is a warrior.

The compliment to #71 by coach Hinton should be remembered by that young man all of his life. The highest compliments are those that come from an opposing coach. The caliber of this coach makes it even more memorable. Its also good to see an interior lineman get such high recognition. Go blue.

I have 4 tickets together for the Steelers vs Jaguars game next Sunday 10-16 if anyone is interested.

Team effort was key in last nights game. I am sure some kids werent happy about their role changed roles, but it was the team concept that matters.

Such fees will reduce the number of students since some low income households may not be able to afford to have their kids play.
Just a thought.
Good job by Gallia.
Good luck to Chilli the rest of the way.
Also, unlike some past years, I don't believe Gallia is dressing freshman for the games. Not positive about that though.

The thing I would add is what seemed to me that Gallia believed Chilly was soft, intended to prove Chilly was soft, and accomplished that task. The one thing I remeber from the '70 and early '80s was that OCC schools would hate playing Chilly because even though they would win the game, Chilly would beat the tar out of them physically. I do not see that kind of nastyness in Chilly football players right now. I am still a CAV, but I am a sad CAV, because I never thought I would see a Chilly team legitimately be labled soft. Hop, it takes heart, strength of character, passion, desire, and pride to play this game. It seems to be lacking in Chilly kids, and until that changes, you could bring Vince Lombardi in here and the story would be the same.
Buck, I don't think that GA thought the Cavs were soft. I think the coaching staff just finally woke up and realized that our line is the strength of our team. We should have been running that kind of offense all year!

Hey 83.. Didn't most fans believe the offensive line would be our strength this year? Glad to hear the coach finally realized this....LOL

Good Job Blue way to get the W. Really good all around Win. Line played well, D played well, Coaches actually called a good game. This is what we should have been running all year. Run the ball down their throats till they stack the box and play action and sweep out of it.

Radioman...Need your memory...Saw in last week's paper where golf team has been to the state around six times...If I remember last time they went, I did a story on that subject. Seems like they have been there at least 10 times, starting with the 1939 team that included HOF Bill smith. What ye say?

Golf history provided by the school for that story.

Way to get back in the win column Friday night, Blue Devils!

I'll check with John Milhoan, former GAHS golf coach who took a few teams to the state. His memory is lots better than mine. Of course he's a few years younger.

Just talked to former GAHS golf coach John Milhoan. Here's what he had.

1939
1963
1971
1974
1976
1977
1978
Talked to this year's assistant coach Rusty Saunders. Here's what he had. But will check back tomorrow for sure.
1997
1998
1999
2011

That would be 11 times GAHS has reached the state golf tourney.

Coach Milhoan said his best team finish and score was in 1971 when GAHS placed 8th in the finals with a 686 score. Rusty thinks we finished sixth one year, but will let me know Tuesday.

Congrats Big Blue.
