Re: Week 2 1-0 Coal Grove @ 1-0 Paint Valley
I could think of a really good derogotive team for a cat :-) but I root for all the area teams.... As long as they not in the ovc!!! LOL
Re: Week 2 1-0 Coal Grove @ 1-0 Paint Valley

First off, congrats to the Hornets. I'm not even going to bother to try to explain how impressed I am with this bunch. I'll just say, "WOW!"
Now, about the history:
CG put up 58 points tonight and won by 52.
In 1965, Coal Grove beat Symmes Valley, 68-40 (CG record for most points scored in a game).
In 1986, they beat South Point, 57-0 (record for largest margin of victory).

So Baz, as far as most points scored in a game, it would go:
1. 68 - October 1, 1965 (v. Symmes Valley)
2. 62 - October 23, 1953 (v. Chester)
3. 58 - September 4, 2009 (@ Paint Valley)
4. 57 - October 3, 1986 (v. South Point)

Yeah, congrats to the Tigers!
Man! It's looking like Lawrence County could seriously have three representatives in the State Playoffs this year!

Last night was as close as a complete game that I have seen the Grove play in a long time, if they can play like that all year then not only is the OVC outright in reach but the playoffs are there too.
Re: Week 2 1-0 Coal Grove @ 1-0 Paint Valley
Make no mistake about it, this is a playoff team (probably one of the top 4 teams in the region). The only thing that can keep CG out of the playoffs is themselves. The depth at the skill positions is incredible. The line is small, but explosive. And you just can't say enough about Ferguson at QB. Excellent touch, excellent composure, excellent athlete.
Again, I think "Wow" best describes my reaction to what I saw last night.

Nice win to the Hornets. And to the poster from Ironton calling them the "sweat bees".
Get over yourself, people like you give Ironton a bad name.

^^^^ Kudos Hosscat. Fans from both sides need to wake up and remember both teams are representing Lawrence County.
And you can't tell me the scrimmage against Ironton didn't help Coal Grove (especially the line) prepare for this season.
I said it last week and I'll say it again: the coaching staff deserves mad props for preparing this team for this season.

Fuzz I have said since last week that this is not the same team that was playing in that jamboree game, they are not making the mistakes they made in that game and they are playing with more confidence than I have ever seen them playing with, but that said I just hope it doesn't go to their head, they need to stay level headed and keep playing with the chip on their shoulder, they do that and this team could put themselves deep into the playoffs.

I looked it up, CG beat East 55-26 in '05.
However, just last year the Hornets tagged 61 on River Valley in a 61-6 win on October 17. I can't believe I forgot about that one! I was keeping stats at it!
So. . . as far as most points scored by a Hornet team in a single game, it would look like this:
1. 68 - October 1, 1965 (v. Symmes Valley)
2. 62 - October 23, 1953 (v. Chester)
3. 61 - October 17, 2008 (v. River Valley)
4. 58 - September 4, 2009 (@ Paint Valley)
5. 57 - October 3, 1986 (v. South Point)
