[quote="demaniac1"]Speed is relative. If the opponent is slower, u look slower. You dont need to run that fast to cover gaps or string plays out laterally. I am impressed with Valleys total offense. They were either faster to the outside or Crabtrees classic traps and guts were right on vs RH. Valley will key on Delawder (sp?) for sure. I havent seen either team play so I say good luck to both and I hope the Indians win. Go soc2!![/quote

CG's team has a stable of backs. Delawder is awesome but definitely not the only threat. This team also can and will throw the ball :122246 I am impressed with this years team's offensive diversity. I have to say as an insider looking in, I was shocked at the diversity that Coal Grove's offense has shown this year.

I would love to see the grove pull off this win. I think this would be a big "W" for them.

And thats the same mistake the last two teams made, this is not your average Coal Grove team, the power running game is not the key for us, we have a ton of speed and we will use it.

Not doubting your team speed at all, but we arent slow ourselves. I'm actually glad the power game is not what you use most, because thats where you would be hurting us.

Then if the power game is whats hurting you.... then im sure they will be running it all night... or at least until you stop it. I once played for Coal Grove not to many years ago, when we were nothing but a power football team. Basically ran what most teams consider a "Maryland I" Two running backs and a power back. Well Big Dad must have seen a weakness in a team, and we ran 7 trap 11 times in a row!!! If you cant stop the power game i think you all will be in for a hurting... Big Dad might be spreading the ball around this season, but i think he still remembers what got him all those titles ;)

Good point, Baz. Coal Grove is not necessarily abandoning the power running game, they're simply using the talent and depth they have to give their offense more options besides "three yards and a cloud of dust". Yeah, Coal Grove put up 44 points on Meigs using a variety of plays, but when the game was on the line and CG needed to milk the clock and perserve the win, it was Delawder, Delawder, Delawder all 4th quarter long. If I'm not mistaken, he got the ball every play in the 4th except for one. And it worked to perfection.
Another thing to remember is the fact that the line isn't nearly as big this year as it has been in recent memory.

That bodes well for the Indians who are a little undersized up front on both sides of the ball. The linebackers and dbacks have played very well, and the D-line has to be better than they were against Rock Hill. As for the O-line, they do an excellent job of pass blocking and give the QB more than enough time to get the ball to his recievers. Valley, IMO, has to win this game outside the hashmarks. If #14 isn't at QB then along with #23 and #21, Valley has to throw the quick screens and use their advantage out wide. #5 must make quick decisions on his throws and/or his runs... He ran very well on Friday night, but he needs to know when to throw the ball away and not take sacks 15 yards behind the line of scrimmage. If he's going to run, he has to get north and south and quit going Fran Tarkenton. And if #5 has trouble taking snaps under center in short yardage situations then hopefully #14 will be in there for that instead of running traps out of the shotgun.

Now don't make the mistake of thinking CG's line isn't good just because it isn't as big as it normally was a few years ago. Both the O and D lines dominated a massive Paint Valley line that probably averaged around 6'3'' 270; Coal Grove's line averages somewhere around 6'0 210. They also pushed Meigs around, especially in the 4th quarter.

Now don't be putting words in my mouth, :122245 . I know CG's line is good, I'm just saying that it helps that they aren't the monster line they used to be. I'm hoping the speed and athleticism of Valley's LBs and DBs will play well against a team that isn't huge.

I believe there was only one failed snap and the coach addressed that with center when he came off of the field. I think I would leave #5 right were he is.

Please remember this is a game played by young men, not the old f*rts sitting around on our computers. I look for this to be a good game, but the Hornets will score the most points. Good luck to both teams, and may they play a sportsmanlike and injury free game.

From some of these posts, it reads as if a better matchup would be for Coal Grove to see if USC wants to make a pitstop in Lawrence County on Friday night before taking on the Buckeyes on Saturday.

I've read where they have a ton of speed, a power running game, can throw it all over the place whenever they want to, have a small line that can dominate college size kids, and I'm sure I'm missing something.

I love the OVC vs SOC matchups. They are much more exciting on here than the other intraconference matchups. Its always like a great big pi$$ing contest.

they did play good this past fri had one of those games whee everyone was clicking. i think this fri will be a hard game for both teams. i dont know if vallys line is as big as pv but i know there a good balll club. cg uses 3 or 4 backs and when needed so far the power game has worked. in the meigs game it ran the clock out in the 4th, against pv it set the game in the 1st . so far the passing game has worked.

I think Valley has to change its mentality to win this game, its seems like valley doesn't think they can win big games now that they have joined the Soc II, hopefully they can get this turned around, because they have talent
