Thats true but let us step back and look at what really drives(funds) all the other sport programs for any school, its friday night when the lights are turned on, and tell me why it is that these young men are are choosing soccer over football, your correct when you say the "program".
I guess what i would like to see is the football "program" come back to be what every young man comming up through school dreams of .....Ya know what im talkin about if ya played the game, watching the players run onto the field with their heads held high and knowing the coach could always "COACH" their players up into doing something great when the odds where stacked against them...
I dont know the solution and i guess im just another one of the faceless folks who come on here and b**ch about what is going on, but as long as there are people like some of the guys helping these much younger players ya see out front ,i guess there is hope.
Hope these freshman we have dont get beat up to much and (no dis-respect to you socman)decide to play to play soccer.

Thanks for the stats Tiger24. With Schankweilers 148 yards he now has 1038 for the season and surpassed Pendleton as the areas leader unless Oak Hill's Weston Hale's 348 tonight against Symmes Valley puts him in the lead. I'm not sure what he had coming into the night.

Waverly has nearly twice as many boys as Burg, so they should have more than enough to have a good soccer and football program. From watching the game tonight, Waverly seemed to have a good game plan and called good plays, but not much execution or passion from the Waverly kids. It appears they have the athletes to get it done, but just fall short.
Re: Week 8 SOC2 Wheelersburg (5-2 @ Waverly (0-7)
Agree with the athletes and also the number of boys in school but i believe that when schools become powerhouse and legacy teams in their confrence it is because the athletes are passionate about the game and the name on the jersey , and where does that passion come from ......yea the coach, and the fact that strapping the pads and the lid on is something earned, and desired from these young men.....yea that was something that used to be ingrained into waverly football by one of the assist. coaches that is still there, but he and probably one other there can only do so much.(So my hats off to those two...RMA)4th n Goal wrote:Waverly has nearly twice as many boys as Burg, so they should have more than enough to have a good soccer and football program. Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

I'm not certain of Hale's exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure his 348 tonight put him in the lead by a decent margin. I'm almost positive that he was averaging well over 100 yards per game going into tonight and with the 348, he should be over 1100...if not more. But, all that says to me is that our area is blessed with some very talented backs this year. All three of those kids are a lot of fun to watch carry the rock!!!Burg_Grad_77 wrote:Thanks for the stats Tiger24. Way to go BURG! Have a great week of practice and get ready for the INDIANS!

I don't buy the theroy that soccer takes away from the football "program". Waverly went 10-0 and 9-1 and two deep into the playoffs in back to back years and fielded very good soccer teams at the same time. There is very good talent not playing either. The question is, why aren't they playing? There is a reason Waverly is fielding 6 to 7 freshman at a time on Friday nights.
