IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.

Look I never said anything other than it was small and hard to handle a large crowd, but I will say that it has never been very visitor friendly. Hopefully that has changed with the new changes. I just don't understand why if you are going to do all that was done there why not just put it in a better location. Seems to me that there should have been room somewhere over by the new school. As far as where we play the only thing wrong with our stadium is the field and we are working on that. There is only so much they can do there because of it's historical landmark status. Frankly I love our covered stadium I like not getting wet when it rains or snows. I was not dogging your stadium just stating the obvious.

D-5 that was a great article thanks for sharing. I can appreciate the sentiment. I am sure that back then it was more than enough room and served the pupose. It is not a bad facility at all just very space challenged. I have been going down there for years and it has just always been very crowded. I was just wondering why they didn't find a bigger spot. If it was for economical, sentimental or traditional reasons I get that too. Heck I am from Ironton we know all about sentiment and tradition we eat sleep and drink it. We also know about money issues, we have been trying for years to get something done with our field. I was just wanting to see if anyone would or could tell me why they didn't move it?
Re: IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.
The only thing remaining from before the upgrade to the stadium is the visitors bleachers, which are better than a lot of schools around the area and aren't that old. The reason for not moving the stadium is mostly contained in the link D-5 posted. The tradition of what many people went through 50+ years ago to build the current field. Honestly, I like the fields and gyms around the area that are unique and have character. Sure the new stadiums and gyms all over the place are very nice, but I liked Spartan stadium much more than Portsmouth's new stadium and I liked Wheelersburg's old gym much more than the new one. The upgraded Ed Miller Stadium was done nicely and brings enough of the old and new together.....IMO

Just maybe the Burg is always a crowded place because of the rich history and historical success of the program. On any given weekend, they probably have the largest gate in the area. It has been one of the most difficult places to play and win for decades. Why change now because we fans want creature comforts? Fans know if they want a seat or they want a place around the fence, they need to get there early. If not, you get what you get. I'm personally glad they didn't relocate to another area and I'm not a Burgite.

Re: IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.
I think Burg needs to give the same accomadations to away teams that all other stadiums try to give, not the back of the food bar with no air. It is kind of ridiculous. Hopefully this was changed with new stadium.
Re: IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.
The new locker room building does have central air for both teams. The visitors locker room is small, but they do have benches and showers.
Re: IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.
ANything would be better than what they had in the past. I think they should play this game on Saturday night and open the facility with a bang!!! Where will the cannon be placed?

i'm hoping to not hear much of the cannon this year, and have the new coach and the fighting tigers start out with their own bang this year. but i can't wait to see the new facility.

I've been told there will be no week 10 game. This coming from someone associated with the team.LITTLE TIGER wrote:ANY UPDATE ON A TENTH GAME???

Seriously??86Tiger wrote:First off I thought that they did not get a "NEW" stadium only upgraded the same one. If this is the case you couldn't fit any more people in that cracker box of a stadium than you fit in there on a friday night. That place is so packed and it is always hot and miserable. Wonder why they didn't just build a new one?
This coming from a fan whose stadium has probably the worst visitors section in the area and more than likely the oldest stadium as well. At least we did improve the stadium and the seating. Don't get me wrong, I love Tank Stadium and the atmosphere there, but to call Ed Miller Stadium a "crackerbox" is ludicrous.
Also, it's always hot and miserable because it's played in the middle of the month of August, Einstein. I bet it so much cooler packed like sardines under the canopy at Tank during that same time period.
I guess you could always just keep your a$$ at home and listen to it on WIRO.

Re: IRONTON VS. WHEELERSBURG WEEK 1, YOUR THOUGHTS.
Again, Burg stadium has one huge fault...they put their own team in a decent air conditioned area pre game and half and opponents get stuck behind the food in a small cramped and very very hot(August games) cracker box with all the fans right up their a....! Talk about giving urself an advantage. That is the only thing I think is in desperate need of a change.
