I would also say that about the administration that hired him. It was no secret when his son got the job at West that his dad was coming to West. Just look back when Ben was hired and there were allot of people at West that mentioned it on this site. So don’t tell me this was not planned. END OF THE STORY!
Not true. It was a question asked several times on here. Would Coach Johnson's father come to West also? Not Dan Johnson is coming with him.

This was around the time when the angle was Ben has no assistants with experience. Well he solved that problem with two former head coaches. So the new angle is your concerned about Liberty Union. How dare a retired teacher that's coached at a school for nearly 30 years leave a really good team full of seniors for the new coach to transition with.

Believe what you want to but it did not go down that way.

Exactly LU is very experienced and they are very good. That's why I call bs on our coaches thinking that LU isn't this or that and that we will win. Same bs was said before the Newark Catholic game. These guys are confident and they do expect to win. They were mad they got beat by Johnson Central in the scrimmage. But confident of your team is a whole lot different than being arrogant and overlooking an opponent. Especially one the quality of LU on the road. They are too professional for that.

Some were hopeful from the beginning. But it was no where near a done deal.

My question is. We even care why? Something to whine about. We have a great staff that wants to win and has all the qualities to do so. LU was without a coach for a few days. The new coach was in place long before practice started. Coach Johnson wasn't at West until school let out. What's the difference?

Aren't you talking about yourself and repitition. Everyone is a perennial powerhouse to you! Friend you are the broken record. Good luck to both but this one I will root for the underdog.

LU has a brand new coach, much like West does, except LU got no summer program and their new coach doesn't have a family of coaches to rely on and trust. The West Johnson family have been at LU for 29 years. I don't have much tolerance for that with players and kids counting on you. The new Coach Johnson at LU is a first year coach. They(the staff at West) are unimpressed with him. He is running the spread.
His son was selected out of a number of applicants to coach at Portsmouth West a program with a long history and tradition of quality football, and I am sure he was excited for him when he was awarded that spot, since he served under him at LU and helped him be successful.

The dad probably thought he could stay motivated (even after almost 30 years) and grind out a couple more seasons at LU before retiring, but I am sure at some point he realized he would rather help his kid (that is what fathers do) start his own career as a head coach and help make him successful as well.

As an older gentlemen myself, I am sure if my son was starting a career in something that I had been involved with my whole life I would do same thing. It is what families do and my guess is that any West-side dad would do the same thing for his son as well.

LU didn't get short-changed, they got decades of excellence and the guard changed plain and simple and there probably is never a good time.

Blood is thicker than water, and we all know that.

Good luck to West this game and the rest of the season, I think they are going to be in the hunt for a league title this year.
Very good post. Blood is thicker than water.

Back to the game. Really interested in seeing this game. I think it will be a good one. I think West will compete well. I just wish we could get healthy. Not had a lot of luck in the injury department so far.

Lets hope neither team has any injuries. To the blood thicker than water comment I say let that be you at West next year. Your coaches leave the end of July. Then see how you feel about it a whole new system. I will drop it. Just had to put that out there.

The West-LU game is supposed to be on WLOH 1320 / 104.5 tape delay after the Lancaster Gales game.

You can listen online here: http://www.wloh.net/listenliveonlinehere.html

Shame the West kids can't get out earlier from school. I thought that really hurt us against Newark Catholic.

Tough loss, I'm sure west out gained liberty but could not finish 2 drives that would have given them the lead at half. Was not overly impressed with LU, didn't seem to be utilizing the many athletes they have on offense. Obviously they are a good team but can see them going 6-4 or 7-3, with a possible playoff rematch if West continues to get better and can win 5 or 6 of their remaining games.

Hate to loose games like this but West is definitely improved and improving. Need to figure out how to win them but it will come. I thought most of the night West was the better team. Would like to get healthy and see them in the playoffs. I believe we were missing 4 starters tonight.

Yes tough loss for West.

I think LU had not lost their coach right before the season started you would see a better team. Keep in mind LU's Coach's along West Coaches are just learning what the boys can do at this stage.

Tough loss indeed but this West team is undoubtedly heading in the right direction and will give the remaining teams on their schedule fits.

West has played a very difficult schedule with two of them being 2 hour drives. Even the scrimmages were tough. They are beat up for sure. Sounds like they are hopeful of getting some guys back soon and they will make a big difference. Couple easier games coming up to get healthy and confident before league play.

On the bright side, West will be 3-2 after the next two weeks.
