Wk2 Oak Hill(1-0) vs Wheelersburg(1-0)
Re: Wk2 Oak Hill(1-0) vs Wheelersburg(1-0)
You can't give teams with explosive offenses the ball at mid field every time you kick off, that type of field position opens up your entire offense and you gain 10-15 yds most teams will be in 4 down territory. What was the avg of the kicks we kicked deep lastnight? Take away 1 that was returned to around the 40 I thought coverage deep last week and this week was pretty good. You can do a lot besides onside kicks to eliminate big returns. Most successful onside kicks are because of surprise when all there guys upfront turn, you do it 4-5 times a game your severely diminishing your chances of recovery the kick. If You don't want to kick deep because your scared of a big return just kick it out of bounds every time and take the penalty.

When teams have to prepare for onside kick it's almost impossible to set up a return. Burg had three guys around ball as soon as he looked up. The threat is there.

It should make no difference if the guys upfront are coached correctly and do there job. They shouldn't retreat until they know the ball is kicked away on every single kick.wobycat wrote:^^^^^^^^

Well burg hasn't played an explosive offense.. Also its having confidence in your defense! Burg goes into every game expecting to win. I don't think burg fears a team having a big return.. They kicked it deep last night and oak hill got no where! Not saying its your u fbnut. But I think some fans are just upset because burg is giving them such good field position and they still get shut down.fbnut wrote:You can't give teams with explosive offenses the ball at mid field every time you kick off, that type of field position opens up your entire offense and you gain 10-15 yds most teams will be in 4 down territory. Very true fbnut, but a team has to prepare and respect it. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I understand the risk/reward from it. Basically the offense is given two free sets of downs should it not work. My concern would be, should the defense hold, more than likely the offense would be pinned in a long field.
