Re: Ironton Turf project has started
is it mostly tuition costs you think in the smaller schools like this, and the shape of the economy.
Re: Ironton Turf project has started
The economics of tuition certainly makes it hard for many families. Putting two (or more) kids through Catholic HS at the same time is difficult financially. You're Tiger Bait wrote:is it mostly tuition costs you think in the smaller schools like this, and the shape of the economy.
I'd reckon the economy has (or had, depending on who you believe) an effect on enrollment. Before 2008, Fisher's enrollment was 320 9-12... currently it's 185 9-12. They just graduated a class of 57 students, but their incoming freshman class only has 34 students. Marion was no longer able to support MCHS. Rosecrans is struggling for enrollment as well.
Regarding your comment about the 70's: well yeah, I'm going to assume ISJ had nuns in the school as did many Catholic schools. Considering you never had to pay them, that kept costs low. Not the case anymore...

As far as I know ISJ is the smallest school in the OHSAA. The year Bait refers to is 1976, we had 52 or 54 boys 9-12 and 43 played football. Did not understand OSU77 post, I guess he meant 22 in each class. As far as Bait having ISJ friends, I am still looking for them

Dutch, have you checked the photos in the Post Office..........if no luck there I have a suspicion that the reason Bait moved to Waverly was to be near most of his friends that live in the motel in Lucasville located across from the High School....The Flying Dutchman wrote:As far as I know ISJ is the smallest school in the OHSAA. Next years St Joe senior class numbers will increase to between 25 and 27. Not really sure the correct count but Dutch might know for sure. This past year was a small one for sure. When paying tuition at St Joe you only pay for two and no more. If you have more than two children going to school you only pay the cost of two. The way they generate scholarships at St Joe the tuition is worth the investment. Last years graduating class generated 1.2 million dollars in scholarship money and this years 10 Seniors acquired 11 scholarships. Not sure of the value of those 11 scholarships.Of last years 18 graduating seniors, 16 had 25 or better on their ACTs. Dutch did I miss anything?

I was down by the stadium yesterday and noticed that the ground where the swimming pool used to be was stripped of grass and was all leveled off. Are there plans for that area? I know they usually use that for physical fitness.

I know they dumped a lot of dirt from the field over there and leveled it out. I'm not sure what they have planned for that area if anything.RiverRatRay wrote:I was down by the stadium yesterday and noticed that the ground where the swimming pool used to be was stripped of grass and was all leveled off. Re: Ironton Turf project has started
wow buckeye , thanks for the picture show. I had no idea what all was involved in one of these installs.
wonder if they'll get new goal posts, I hope so.
I have no idea how long those have been there, unless they're keeping them for historical reasons.
