Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
With 18 teams, you could have 2 divisions for football and 3 for other sports. I think webster, valley, oak hill would vote no otherwise because jackson is much larger when considering track, baseball, basketball, soccer etc. People on here feel sorry for jackson, but st. Joe has never been in a league that i know of.
I doubt this happens, portsmouth wouldve been so much easier and they never let them in.

St. Joe was in the SOC from 1982-1989 and I agree with you. Adding Portsmouth and St. Joe would have made perfect balance in a lot of sports. I can live with Jackson joining since they need a conference, but I don't think they get in though they will get more consideration and more votes than what the TVC gave them; I just don't think it'll be enough votes. As for your divisions, switch East and Western and that'd be a nice 3-division SOC. I know I've said this multiple times, but I would this setup for the SOC if we would go up to 18 teams.goUK wrote:With 18 teams, you could have 2 divisions for football and 3 for other sports. SOC I
East Division:
1. East (1)
2. Green (2)
3. Ironton St. Joe (3) [No Football]
4. South Webster (4) [No Football]
5. Symmes Valley (5)
West Division:
1. Clay (5) [No Football]
2. Eastern (4)
3. New Boston (1) [No Football]
4. Notre Dame (3)
5. Western (2) [No Football; would like to see Western add Football]
(#) = Protected-Rival
SOC II:
1. Jackson
2. Minford
3. Northwest (SOC I in Football)
4. Oak Hill (SOC I in Football)
5. Valley
6. Waverly
7. West
8. Wheelersburg
Still think it would look better with Portsmouth, but Jackson would be better than no one; unless Gallia Academy leaves the OVC and the OVC stays at 7, but I doubt that happens.

I believe that Ironton St. Joe was in the OVC at one time. I know they played some OVC teams in football just about every year.

I'm pretty sure Ironton St Joe won 2 OVC Titles under Coach Lutz.Gray Fighting Tiger wrote:I believe that Ironton St. Joe was in the OVC at one time. I know they played some OVC teams in football just about every year.

C-Bolt I don't think she is "singing", but rather has "sung", and is currently exiting stage right.C-Bolt wrote:Saw tonight where Warren was officially accepted into the OVAC! Down to the final two Jackson and Logan, the fat lady is singing full force now.
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
Yup you probably right.I know some people were still clinging to the hope they could get some other teams to join and keep it going, but it looks like that ship done sailed
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
I think the OVAC will be good for Warren, but it is set up to be a dual league for almost every ohio school. Since the SEOAL has been shrinking Warren was forced to go east to find teams to play in alot of sports. Most of these teams were in the OVAC anyway. I would say Warren will now ride the SEOAL ship as long as Jackson and Logan want to keep it going while competing in the OVAC as well. With 49 other teams to choose from, we should be able to fill our schedule. Instead of traveling 2 hours west to play, we will travel 2 hours east. It may be rough in football for Warren, but the other sports we should compete very well in.

Interesting article from about 3 weeks ago, talks about how the SOC will be handling the discussion of Jackson at the meeting this Thursday. Worth a read.

I, for one, would be very surprised if JHS were accepted. It would create an odd number league, someone moving to another division (or another school joining) and would bring in a school much larger than the rest. IMO Jackson does fit not SOC, however I hope they get in. Just my two cents worth.
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
What caught my attention about what was about St. Joe in that article was that it "didn’t feel like it was the right time" which would lead me to think if Jackson were accepted, the SOC would probably add St. Joe as an 18th member and would either go 3 divisions of 6, 2 divisions of 9, or 2 divisions of 8 in SOC II and 10 in SOC I.wipala wrote:I, for one, would be very surprised if JHS were accepted. St. Joe would even the numbers as well as bring in a small school.
It will all work out in the end, to SOC wishes. Could be fun

Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
As it's been seen in other posts, I'm all for a 10 team SOC I (by dropping down South Webster and adding St. Joe) and splitting SOC I into 2 geographical divisions in Basketball, Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball to maintain 14 conference games (double round robin in-division [8 games], round robin out of division + 1 game against the protected rival [5+1 games]) and looking into traveling, if done correct, 6 of the 9 SOC I teams (not counting St. Joe) would travel less over a 2 season average (Clay travel would average 1.5 miles or 2 minutes longer, Notre Dame travel would average 2/3 of a mile or 1 minute longer, and South Webster travel would average 7 miles or 5 minutes longer, but does get Division IV conference competition rather than D-III and D-II conference competition).wipala wrote:St. Joe would even the numbers as well as bring in a small school.

I'm glad Warren finally found a home in the OVAC. Too bad the TVC wouldn't welcome you back home.
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
Looks like the SOC is only conference left. I doubt it will allow Jackson in. They discuss it tomorrow.

Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
It's interesting none of the papers around here have acknowledged Warren leaving yet. They must be waiting for Warren to put in their official notice they are leaving.
Re: Jackson applies for membership to OVC, SOC, SCOL
I do not think Warren is leaving the SEOAL. OVAC is a secondary league for 75% or more of the schools. This league has a points system that ranks you, so you do not play everyone in your division and then they have a four team playoff in most sports from those rankings. So you have a regular season and tourney champion and they have all league teams as well. If the SEOAL folds then Warren has something to fall back on at least.

Speaking of the OVAC. Steubenville is taking a vote on joining the ECOL. Zanesville, Dover, New Philly, and Steubenville in football would be very tough league
