Are there any young alumni coaches that are hanging around somewhere? That to me seems like the next logical step. I personally don't see an experienced coach wanting to take it on. Unless its an old "culture" guy to bite the bullet and try to right the ship for a short time being and guide them to a point that a younger up an comer can come into a better situation. That's happened at some schools..... Bring someone like Bartholomew, something like that for an example?
But again for Zanesville, a young alum that is in coaching and wanting to develop his chops makes sense here to me. Knows the culture and what it can be if done right, will have time to connect and build, knows the admin and how it operates, etc. I always felt Grandstaff was the man for ZVille because he's one of them, a natural fit! That ship has sailed IMO, so find another similar!!! Just don't know if they're out there!

I said from the beginning that this is where Zanesville should of gone and Clapper fits that mold. Clapper coached under Brownrigg and Grandstaff, who are up there with the most respected coaches in the area. Could be a good hire! He's got his work cut out for him!

Word on the street Jason Lee is NOT interested for the Crooksville job, him and Grandstaff are apparently all in on Foxfire program.

I know he did a fantastic job turning FCA around. I assume to heights the've never been before. But I can't help but think of the culture shock from Fairfield Christian Academy to Crooksville!! The best coaches can do it and we'll see how it goes, wish him the best!formerfcfan wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:34 pmGrand slam. yeah. I feel that the FCA job he departs from is considerably better than the FCA job he took over.Play60Football wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 2:01 pmI know he did a fantastic job turning FCA around. He’ll do fine navigating the Ceramic kiln. The Crooksville gig may be rough around the edges at times, but a string of aspirational seasons with some expanded playoff opportunities can make this a rewarding pursuit with things to show for it in the process.
Re: Carper done at Zanesville
Congratulations to Coach Pardon. Not who I would’ve expected, but has HC experience and had success building. Fairfield Christian and Crooksville are very different situations. Crooksville has had some success the past couple years in NON-LEAGUE but then when they get to league play they have 1 win since COVID. It would be fantastic for them to become relevant, but until the league allows teams more flexibility in their schedule, namely crossovers, OR they transfer to TVC/MSL, I just don’t see them catching anyone in the small, until Morgan comes back because they seem to be trending down.

I think to a degree there's more in common in what there is to work with than in difference. Obviously the difference between these two jobs is shrouded in the heightened level of competition with respect to what you do have to work with, but just from a Day '0' perspective these are basically the same jobs from a general football perspective with Crooksville having more positive intangibles.MVLfan wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 3:12 pm Fairfield Christian and Crooksville are very different situations.
Long-term, the FCA job has a higher ceiling but that's only if you have all the pieces in the cupboard with everyone on the same page. Short of that it's not materially any better than Crooksville.
