What’s going on @ Marietta High School?

As for what’s going at MHS, many posts here speak to Coach Jason Schob as our head football coach. I’ll add myself to that list. Tigers were 6-4 this season but were 15 points from being 8-2. These two losses were to Fort Frye and Williamstown, both perennial powerhouses in their respective divisions and state. Williamstown in fact is still alive in the WV playoffs. Fort Frye too advanced in the playoffs but injuries finally took their toll on the Cadets. Loss to Athens early in the season to which the Bulldogs finished 9-1, won their league title and lost in the second round of playoffs to a very, very good Steubenville team. The last loss of the season was to 7-3 Warren which is a rivalry game where the records go out the window. Warriors pulled away in the second half after two all conference and all district players for Marietta go down. Warren also to made the Ohio playoffs only to lose to #1 seed Bishop Watterson who’s still alive playing in the final four next weekend. When you take into consideration the data I just provided, there simply should be no further discussion as to the quality of coaching and leadership that Jason Schob provides. Especially as it relates to this season’s performance. Each loss was to a team which made the playoffs with very good records and quality of play all season long. To the nay sayers, what more do you want the guy to do? But Jason Schob is more than just a football coach. He’s a father, husband, teacher, mentor and humble person who lives his life the right way and teaches our kids to do the same. We have been lucky to have him for 11 years. I can’t imagine where my son would be without having Jason Schob in his life. I sincerely hope Jason he decides to be our coach again for his 12th season. He deserves the best from this district!

Good post. Schob is a high quality person who cares about the kids and the school system. To have an environment so toxic that he leaves after Marietta’s best season in 20+ years is an indictment on the leadership of that district. My question for those in decision-making positions would be this: who do you go get after Schob? The grass isn’t always greener.

Good points about coach Schob. Not sure if Marietta could do any better. Marietta City Schools has been a mess as far as facilities goes for many years. It's not a particularly wealthy town to pass levies. When I moved there in 1977, the population was around 16,500. Now it's below 13,000. You have a high school that is home to 7th and 8th graders mixing with the older students. Not ideal at all. What is the solution ? Many years have gone by and it's gotten worse.

Marietta's facility situation is a serious problem imo. They have nothing of their own that they can take pride in.

Word on the street is the facility problem is the final holdup in Marietta and Logan joining the TVC as a package deal. Behind the scenes discussions have been ongoing and the one BOE member has been instrumental in getting the discussions going. So he not all bad. If you want them in the TVC that is.

Marietta isn’t trying to get in TVC. Fort , Warren and Marietta is kind of a packaged deal.

You’d have to ask him. I know a bunch of coaches were not getting along with the school board. I think he’s moved on.
