Hillsboro was in the SBAAC several years ago. Wasn't a good fit for them. Crowds were down as well. Would be a bad move unless FAC completely falls apart
Correct, I believe they left around 2005 or so. From a travel and competitive standpoint the SBAAC is a perfect fit. Hillsboro just lacks any real history with any school in the SBAAC except maybe Western Brown as those two play each other in a lot of sports. So that’s why crowds were probably down for them.
This year, the following is the divisions for the FAC teams in the following sports: Football,Basketball, Track, baseball, Wrestling
Hillsboro 3,4,1,3,2
Jackson 3,4,1,3,2
MT 3,3,1,3,2
Chill 3,3,1,3,2
WCH 4,4,2,4,2
McClain 4,4,2,4,2

So why are you saying Hillsboro needs to leave to be competitive. They are same divisions as Jackson in all 5 sports, Basketball is the only difference with MT and Chillicothe being 3
Do you think divisions are what matters?

Well since you are a unioto fan-your answer would be no since Unioto likes to be the big fish in asmaller school pond league. My point is Hillsboro is not at a disadvantage in the FAC.

What matters is players, coaches, and roster size. Since you may not be very familiar with high school sports in Ohio, let me know if you want me to give examples and what sports or divisions you want to learn about I have plenty of them where division doesn’t matter.

Enlighten me because your response is hilarious. Last time I checked divisions do matter but I want to hear your response. So by your rationale a school with 900 boys should be in a league with d6 or d7 schools if they have small roster sizes? And once again Hillsboro has never had an issue with roster size in any of their main sports. I can't wait to hear your examples

Easy familiar football example last year d5 ironton over d3 Jackson how could this happen?

Also roster size may not be Hillsboros issue, but other than one season how often do they compete with these other schools what about McClain, they can’t beat d7 schools why would they want to play Jackson?

Ironton is in a whole different world compared to most se district schools. D6 Huntington, D6 SE, D6 Adena why should they be competing against Unioto in football?

One more thing to consider about roster size. Hillsboro I would guess dresses everyone on the team Jackson may have similar number of kids on the sidelines but I doubt they dress freshman on Friday unless they are varsity guys

Because they can and have dominated the series other than Huntington.

So my argument is sound, if you are saying bad small schools can’t beat good big schools then I agree but there are countless examples of small schools beating bigger schools consistently and back to my argument it comes down to players coaches and roster size.

The FAC is very much so Chillicothe, Miami Trace and Jackson dominated. The SBAAC overall doesn’t have any one team who dominates in sports outside of Massie Football, it is very competitive across the board. Court House, Hillsboro and McClain often are left in the dark in most sports. Also the most important part is Travel would be LESS in the SBAAC vs FAC, especially if Circleville and Logan Elm come around. Why would Hillsboro stay in the FAC to make 3 trips at 1 hr 10 mins+, when the SBAAC would offer no trips over 50 minutes for better competition. An SBAAC move makes sense to me.

Every year this topic comes up and I do agree Hillsboro and Greenfield should leave if expansion keeps going east. Things would also be easy if Jackson and Chillicothe were replaced with Massie, Wilmington, East Clinton, etc. Competition throughout the league seems pretty good across the board to me.
I believe these are the current FAC champions:
Football: Jackson
Soccer: Chillicothe boys (champs every year since FAC began) Girls Chillicothe
Tennis: Boys Chillicothe 2024 Girls Chillicothe?
Golf: Boys Chillicothe girls ?
Cross Country: boys and girls Chillicothe
Volleyball: M Trace
Basketball: boys M Trace girls Greenfield
swimming: boys and girls Greenfield I believe
Bowling: Hillsboro boys and girls
Wrestling: ?
Baseball: WCH? 2024
Softball: Hillsboro 2024
Track: boys Hillsboro 2024 girls Greenfield 2024?

i would be happy with the following

Circleville
Westfall
Madison Plains
Adena
Wilmington
East Clinton
Fairfield Local Leesburg
Unioto
Zane Trace

Lets drop Jackson and have them join Waverly’s league…the drive is so long lol

I think an SCOL reunion would be a lot of fun, get new teams to join! Especially if you split it into two.

Big:

Hillsboro
Washington CH
Miami Trace
Clinton-Massie
Wilmington
Waynesville?

Small:

Greenfield McClain
East Clinton
Blanchester
Greeneview
Madison-Plains
Cedarville

You could also replace Waynesville with Chillicothe. Jackson should be in a reformed SEOAL that’s apart of the TVC with Jackson, Logan, Athens, Vinton County, Gallia, Warren as a big school division… that makes a lot of sense to me

Washington CH has the smallest enrollment of all schools in the league. McClain has more enrolled then WCH. Boys grades 9-11 WCH has 212 . Take a look at the enrollment numbers.

Lost in the fun discussion is a solution. Ohio should do away with conferences as the organizational building block of high school sports scheduling and go to district play scheduling like Kentucky.

That would ruin HS AD's dream of being Pete Rozelle and remove a pithy topic on sports forums, but if equity in competition based on school size is the goal, why not?

Would FAC entertain Ironton if they applied.

Split into a North/South Division

South

Ironton
Jackson
Waverly
Chillicothe
Unioto

I think the next move for the OHSAA will be to shorten the regular season to 9 games and let everyone in. As much as some hate that idea, it’s the next step they’ll take. As for districts I personally love the idea, but I’m just not sure it ever happens. But I would love to see the OHSAA make districts of 6 teams. 5 conference game, 4 non conference games sounds like a great mix to me. Solves all this realignment as well.
