i think the coach may be astute enough to post that if ironton scores more points than the team they play ironton might actually win. He does not understand why teams lose.

I'LL EAT MORE THIS YEAR I'M SURE. BUT SO WILL MANY ON HERE. BOTTOM LINE, WE HAVE NO EFFECT ON THESE GAMES WHATSOEVER. BUT WE LOVE OUR TEAMS. AND WOULD FOLLOW THEM TO A GAME IN MONGOLIA. WE STILL WISH WE WERE UNINJURED , YOUNGER, AND WISH WE COULD STILL BE DOING IT.

P.S. I HOPE BOTH THE IRONTON PLAYER, AND THE BURG PLAYER ARE ALL WELL, AND READY TO GO NEXT WEEK. I HATE TO SEE ANYBODY GET HURT.

If you look at the unofficial statistics from the game, it is actually surprising that Ironton made it so close:

Total Yards: Wb 307, Ir 182
Running Yards: Wb 203 (63), Ir 104 (28) (with one 59 yard touchdown run)
Passing Yards: Wb 104, Ir 78
Passing: Wb 6/11, Ir 9/15
Penalties: Wb 5/44, Ir 3/30
First Downs: Wb 17, Ir 6
Turnovers: Wb 2, Ir 3
Time of Possession: Wb 33:17.7, Ir 14:42.3

A big statistic that bodes well for Wheelersburg:
First downs on the Burg's four scoring drives: 12
First downs on Ironton's three scoring drives: 1

It is nice to see the Pirates can sustain drives when they need to against a good defense. Bad news is that they need to work on their special teams to prevent giving up good field position.

NO DOUBT WHEELERSBURG CONTROLLED THE GAME PACE, AND THE STATS. BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS, STATS DON'T WIN GAMES. WE WERE AHEAD , WITH LIKE 40 SECONDS LEFT IN THE GAME, AND HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CLOSE THESE GAMES OUT-------- WE DID NOT. :-D

What a Play!!!!

I dont want to downplay what the Burg and their Soph Qb did on Fri night, but if you watch this play (I am not an Ironton fan by the way....and was rooting for the Burg.) he doesnt look like he catches the ball in bounds. The Ref who signaled the TD came from behind the players to signal the call....just watch this video and pause it when the Wheelersburg player comes down with the ball and where the referee comes in from.

I didnt get to go to the game and I have looked at this a million times and the right toe is in, the left foot went out. And if you watch, it was the ref on the sidelines up field, with no tiger player obstructing, that comes in first to signal. What a job by two sophs!

no excuses for that loss ironton did not execute did not tackle did not block DID NOT CATCH OR HOLD ON TO THE BALL did show a lot of heart by climbing back in though. 1 receiver has dropped ball after ball going back to the scrimmage so like take him out of patterns till he fixes that problem already!! next job is to make sure the burg makes the playoffs by piling on wins...........

Wow!!!!!! What a game. Has to go down as the one of the top 5 games I have seen ever. Burg came out and controlled the first half and then had to come back in the 2nd half for the win. Still a little shocked that the Burg went away from what got them the lead in the first half. The spread was absoultely killing Ironton, yet the Burg never went to it one time in the 3rd qtr and darn near came back to bite them in the butt. It was evident, just like last year, that Ironton had no clue on how to defend the spread offense. The passing lanes where there and or a huge running lane was there. I'm a big believer in the saying, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."

Now, to some of the comments before this game was even played. If you have the time, go back through and read some of the crap put on here by people. Some of it is just comical. Here is some of the better ones.

We had a kicker in college who played soccer and never missed in practice, but come game time he was about a 67% kicker. This game will be won in the trenches not on the leg of a socer player.

Kind of ironic that it did come down to this kids leg as he kicked a huge FG in the first half, from the left hash no doubt and then kicked the go ahead XP late in the game of his first varsity football game.

If W'burg plays this season like they did last night against Piketon they're in for a long season, as this is the worst I've ever seen them. In my scouting report, I counted 6 turnovers and two INTs went for a TDs. So I had it Piketon 14-0. Really, I thought Piketon did their best when they went straight at them as their D-line is small, but quick. They did get a few sacks but did also get burnt on a screen. W'burg also seems a little blitz happy and Piketon did get some big runs with the traps and counters. Ironton's bread and butter is smash mouth football and 'burg couldn't handle Piketon's brand of it, so in two weeks, it's gonna be a long night for the Pirates!

oops!!!!! Ironton had 104 yards rushing and 59 of it came on one play.

HERE'S A TIP. PLANT YOUR BEANS EARLY.
WE AIN'T PIKETON
WE ARE THE IRONTON FIGHTING TIGERS.
THE TRUE BEASTS OF THE SOUTHEAST, WHATCHAGONNADO.
WHEN TIGERMANIA RUNS WILD ON YOU AGAIN
THIS SERIES HAS BEEN SO LOPSIDED, THE PIRATES GET FLIPPED TO THE SHARKS THIS YEAR.
I think we all know who put this post on.

Burg by a slim margin, KEEP DREAMING THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE TIGER! IRONTON ROUTES THE TURD OOPS THE BURG 42-7

Real classy!!!!!!!!

Hopefully everyone at the burg enjoyed this"1 game winning streak" HERES A SHOCKER ITS OVER ITS SOON TO BE A "1 GAME LOSING STREAK"

Oops again!!!!!!!!!!

Alright let me slow it down for you........Tony will DESTROY wheelersburg's o-line..........is that clear enough for you......i dont care how it happens...walks,crawls,flies,swim,climbs, no matter the way it will be all over burgsl line

I will give you that one to a certain degree. The young man is a helluva' an athlete, but did he completely destroy the Burg's O-line? I would have to say No. Sure he got through and made some nice plays, but there was also times that the Burg ran right by him, especially on that last drive.

WOW !!! Another classic IRONTON / BURG game, Right down to the wire in the 4th quarter, One of the most exciting game's of the season everytime these two match up. Congrats to wheelersburg, truly some heart and talent, TIGERS definetely not a disappointment you played a hard fought game and did not give up. KEEP YOUR HEADS UP THIS WILL BE OUR YEAR

Could not have said it better myself. This here is a true Ironton fan who knew what to expect going into this game. This game was an instant classic that I can't wait to watch once it is put On Demand.

Those are a few of the better quotes put on here. I had the chance to go and count who picked who to win prior to the game and it came out 23 picked Ironton to win, almost all of them blowouts and 9 picked Burg to win, the majority of them picking a close game. Sites like this are great and everything to talk up your team, but to blatantly trash another team and give then no chance at all usually has bad reprecussions. Funny how the main ones on here talking the smack haven't had the cahones to come on here and congratulate the Burg and admit they were defeated. If you are going to talk the talk, you better be able to walk the walk.

Actually, the video does not show the referee that called the touchdown. The one you see waits and lets the sideline ref call it and that one had the right angle. I had a better view though--you can see my back in the video. And that first toe that touches was inbounds. Only by a little over an inch but there was clear green between it and the line.

WOW, what a game, I did not think that Tigers had it in them to come back in the second half, but was not surprised that they did because seen it too many times in past years. Congratulations to Coach Woodward on his first huge win as a head coach, and to a very athletic, aggressive Burg team. Our D line is as quick as I have ever seen in HS. Brandon Schankwiler and Andy Stegman probably don't even realize yet what they did against a great big Ironton team, so great job on those two as sophomores for the great performance and for getting the win in the end. Great job by Ironton in coming back in the second half, they are huge and will probably win out the rest of their season. Go Burg!
