The truth is Ironton will have the advantage over burg most years if Pendleton continues to get quality transfers. I'm waiting to see his record and what he can do when he doesn't. The last time he didn't he was 6 and 5. Hard to believe that was 5 years ago.

I’m waiting on the Wheelersburg fans to finally wake up and look in the mirror. It’s simple, Wheelersburg is being out worked and beat in every facet of the program by Ironton and Jackson right now. When is the fan base going to realize this. It’s been going on for 5 years now and the gap looks like it could be widening.

Wake me up when Ironton doesn’t get multiple transfers. You will see a difference. That’s why hart, Thacker, Pittman, copas, Patterson, Terry all start over Ironton kids.XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:36 am I’m waiting on the Wheelersburg fans to finally wake up and look in the mirror. Burg turned it over four times and only lost by three. Last time Burg played in the Tank and turned it over four times, they lost 40-6! This is not trending as you claim.
What we actually saw on Friday:
- Two teams starting lots of new faces and young players in key roles.
- We saw a Burg team that many of us expected. A good defense but a suspect O with a new starter at QB. Unfortunately the sophomore played like a first time starter in the big stage; otherwise Burg wins this game.
- Terry for Ironton is as advertised. Scary talented.
- We saw an Ironton team that we did not expect; good D but not much O. After the first two possessions, they struggled to move the ball due to no passing game.
Going forward:
- Burg’s future success depends on how quickly the young QB improves. He has to take better care of the ball.
- Ironton’s success depends on developing a passing game and addressing the penalties.

I'm curious as to why Lattimore didn't return a punt or a kick against ironton!
I like the Evans boy but think Lattimore has more experience back there and I'm pretty sure he did both at Portsmouth!
Like was said about the play calling, you take away those two interceptions in the endzone and replace them with FG's, Burg wins by 3. Just don't understand throwing out of the wildcat in that situation.

Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Edwards was the only real game changer on field last night for either team (as evidenced by the punt returns). Kid is varsity-ready on special teams and defense right now (still a year or two away at QB). Rest of players looked pretty even on both squads from what I saw.Ironmen98 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:24 amNot only is he attracting talent to come play for Ironton , he’s also developing his talent with a great workout program. JV, freshmen, and junior high game results don't mean much for predicting varsity results as that won't be the same combination of players on field at varsity level once classes are combined. Looking at the sophomores and juniors currently playing varsity for Burg, Ironton, and Jackson, I don't see much of a difference next few years between the programs (as opposed to last few seasons where Ironton clearly had the talent advantage). But obviously, future transfers can change that quickly.*
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
On Wheelersburg’s scores both given short fields due to Turnovers. Ironton had more penalty yards than Wheelersburg had total yards. Pittman will help in passing game going forward. He had missed 3-4 weeks of camp with serious health issue. He’s not in shape to play both ways yet. Hart kid also had an injury in camp that caused him to miss a couple weeks and was told he was only about 75% Friday night. Wheelersburg was gifted more yards by penalty than they actually gained. That spells trouble. Wheelersburg WRs couldn’t separate from Ironton Defensive backs either. If Ironton makes you one dimensional you’re going to struggle.RBH23 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:49 amYou completely misread what happened in that game on Friday.XandOs wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 11:36 am I’m waiting on the Wheelersburg fans to finally wake up and look in the mirror. It was sn eye opener how many times burg started at IHS 40-ish yard line.
Ironton D is gonna be ferocious.
I think we will see many players getting touches on O.

You talk about the lack of Burg O, but you leave out that after the first two scoring drives, Burg adjusted, and Ironton didn’t do much either.
You talk Burg not having a passing game, but you leave out that Ironton didn’t either.
You mention Burg only scoring due to a short field but leave out that Ironton’s second score was a short field as well.
You talk as if this game was really a blow out except for Ironton making mistakes, but if Burg doesn’t turn it over four times, they win comfortably.
Here’s the bottom line, the game went as most Burg, most 3rd party, and some IHS fans expected; a 1-2 score game. However, some on here, including you, expected IHS to win in a blow out. And since that didn’t happen, you are searching desperately and coming up with any possible hypothesis to explain the results instead of just facing the truth: this Ironton team has a long way to go to be as good as the past four seasons. And if Terry goes down, this Ironton team has no chance to be as good as any prior Pendleton team.
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
All your hypothesis is BIASED as well. Here are some facts. Ironton committee 7 personal fouls. Some very questionable. On first drive irontkn committed 2 that were both very questionable and gave wheelersburg 30 yards in penalties. Not to mention both were on 3rd and long and Wheelersburg had no chance to make a play on either. Wheelersburg had no one that could separate from Ironton DBs and Ironton stopped Wheelersburg in a 3 down front the entire game. If you recall last year Ironton threw the ball terribly in game 1 but by end of year was spot on. We will come back to this in the playoffs. Look forward to picking up this conversation. Ironton also took the ball in the 2nd half and shoved it right down Wheelersburg’s throat by running the football before penalties for them backed up in red zone.RBH23 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:46 pmYou talk IHS penalties but keep leaving out four Burg interceptions. The score was 17-14 and could have went either way. That’s not a hypothesis.
Burg threw four interceptions with two into the end zone. Again, not a hypothesis.
Ironton scored on in their first two possessions (big plays). Burg adjusted, and IHS big plays stopped after that. Not hypothesis.
Ironton did drive down in their first possession of the second half mostly running the QB, but not the dynamic offense you expected. Not a hypothesis.
Burg started a sophomore QB with a sophomore center. Not a hypothesis.
You act as if Burg returned all of their offense from the prior year, came out with an experienced QB, and played a mistake free game, while Ironton drove the ball up and down the field, racked up 500 yards of offense, but turned the ball over half-dozen times to keep the game close.
Again, this game didn’t goes as you planned, and IHS is not as good as you thought they would be, so you are attempting to rationalize what happened.
But don’t feel bad, you aren’t the only one that predicted a blowout. Hell, IHS coaches thought the same. Maybe this game brought them back to earth.

That's the majority of their offense. Take them away and who do they have to replace them guys? Take them away and Ironton is mediocre at best on offense. Defense would still be strong but not as strong as with having these guys.
Transfers has been the only thing that has kept that program to the top even though it has got them nothing!!

It’s simple, Wheelersburg is being out worked and beat in every facet of the program by Ironton and Jackson right now. When is the fan base going to realize this. It’s been going on for 5 years now and the gap looks like it could be widening.
That's the majority of their offense. Take them away and who do they have to replace them guys? Take them away and Ironton is mediocre at best on offense. Defense would still be strong but not as strong as with having these guys.
Transfers has been the only thing that has kept that program to the top even though it has got them nothing!!
Re: Wheelersburg @ Ironton Week 1
Lattimore came for reasons that had nothing to do with football, we know this. He doesn’t count. Only Ironton transfers sorry recruits count.
