This should be a good one. Just from reports and what I hear. I think Logan is a slight favorite. Good luck to both teams

Got a chance to see both team's "Jamboree" games. Both teams played strong programs (Trimble, Sheridan).

A few thoughts:

Athens is going to be a very good football team. Will be surprised if Athens doesn't win at least 7 games, and I think 9 is very possible (Zanesville by far the toughest match-up).

Sano has a nice arm and gets the offensive. Obviously no Burrow (nor should anyone expect that), and there are fewer weapons, but Wiseman and Saltzman can play for any team in SE Ohio.

They have good size up front on both sides of the ball, but are better pass blockers/rushers than they are run blockers/stoppers IMO. Wiseman and Saltzman are definitley playmakers on defense too. Kolby Rogers is a disrupter up front on defense.

Logan should be balanced this season - Lane LIttle will get his share through the air where Isaiah Smith is going to be the primary target. This team misses Chance Cox's vertical threat and size so far, but some inexperienced athletic receivers could step up. I look for the tight end to be more of a factor in the passing game this fall (Brendan Karns, Dominic Micochero).

Bryce McBride is still one of the best backs in SE Ohio. He will carry the load for the LHS running game and is playing less linebacker to compensate. He has great size/speed and knows how to hit holes at pace.

Defensively I think Logan looks more disciplined and improved a bit schematically. They showed a couple of different looks to Sheridan to good effect. The defensive line COULD be dominant if they get consistency. There are about 8 really good, big linemen so how they mix them on both sides of the ball will be important.

Logan lost almost every player from last year's secondary - Foltz, Cox, Arnett, Phillips, and Lewellen - Smith is the only returner with experience. Athens will test the Logan DBs. Pass rush will be very important.

From reports I have, Logan should win this game and maybe easy. Here are the scouting reports on the Chiefs --

1. Logan looks to be balanced on O with a strong run game and a very effective pass game. Little is a QB with a good arm and very good scrambling abilities. Smith is a glue fingered WR and some others are going to surprise. McBride is just a stud and will pound out 100+yd games.. The D has been taken over by Burke and it looks like they are turning the corner this year... could be nasty. Very big up front on both OL & DL. They will play aggressive and stunts and blitzes will be effective. Logan will be back to showing why they played bigger, tougher schools over the years -- they are talented, competitive, have size and some speed and the coaching is firmly in place. This should be a breakout year for the Chiefs.

Logan by 28-7. And could be more if they get rolling early.

Totally agree with this very wise former Coach! Look for the Chiefs to beat the dogs by 14 to 17 points!

Cracks me up a person can conjure up a score prediction without knowing anything about one of the teams.

You know nothing about Athens, Paladin. Plain and simple.

I will tell you - Athens is better than what people think.

And I will leave it at that.

Good luck

This game is a toss up to me. Athens played good ball against Trimble and that will go a long way. Logan looks to have a better defense for the passing game than the running game...which is the opposite of the past few years.
Biggest weakness for Logan defense is they line up to stop the passing game and running backs and forget about the QB. Logan hasn't went out of their way to show what they have on offense. If Trimble is close to being as good as last year Logan is in trouble. If not Logan can win this game. Logan's big boys on defense will have to play like they did against Sheridans first two series to stop Athens. Lining up across from Sheridan The Chiefs defense looked like monsters. The team that will have to change their game plan will come out on the short end if they wait too long.

I'll be honest I do not know a lot about either team.
But Athens lost a lot Logan is returning a Lot after a hard season.
Logan may be the favorite here but that is why they play the game.
Athens loses the pressure is on to win out for the playoffs.
Logan is wanting to prove they are back and a win here will show they are.
Let's just hope it's a good game with no injuries

I was thinking the same thing.Another thing I noticed during the scrimmages the big hog mollies along the line looked fatigued early on with hands on hips and breathing heavy, hopefully they got some depth to give those guys a rest during the game. The skill position's are fine as long as they stay healthy.

Two big elements in this game will tell the tale. Logan's running back Bryce McBride and how well he can get into space bc if he comes back stronger than before, he could have a big game. Athens will have to handle Logan's impressive OL size and more importantly their experience. The other will be how Logan DBs can handle the Athens passing game. Logan lost every starting DB from a year ago so they will have to be ready to go. This is a great opening week matchup
