The criss cross always was a reliable big gainer for Wing T teams that could execute it and it still is. You would be watching for it at some point in the game trying to be ready and then it would still break for a big gain .

That would work pretty goood. I think working that in with some option O would be great.

why not run an option using the guy in rocket motion? I don't know what you call the motion but it is like you go and then you arc back to get into pitch relationship.

That was exactly what I was thinking. You could bust off some really big gains. Makes me want to coach again. :122245 :122245

still think that cover 4 ends the rocket sweep, criss cross,

gotta be able to throw the short stuff against the 4, not hit the big one.. corners bailing to play deep man..
disciplined lber play will shut down te
the throw the hitch guys would eat it up though...

As Lou Holtz would have said, "You cant stop it you can only hope to contain it."

50 DEs should definitely be able to stop this play, so keep trying!

I bet there are people out there that think the rocket and jet are the same thing.

I remember one person not knowing the difference between the double wing and the wing t!!!!

50 end can stop this if they are playing a 19 technique (I don't think that really exists, but everyone knows what I am talking about)

10mike has said he had some of that stuff for me to look at; I just haven't had a chance to talk to him about it yet.

I have Coach Erdelyi's playbook, and it looks a lot like traditional Wing-T plays, BUT he runs a lot of them out of rocket & slide motion.

Again, imagine a rocket sweep that is effective initially. If the DE is able to stop it, or at least mess it up a bit, then the OC runs belly (FB off tackle on weak side) with rocket motion, and that hits right where the DE used to be.

Also, I am having trouble imagining a rocket XX. Not much is impossible, but the ball carrier is supposed to catch the pitch outside the tackle. The rocket intercept, which is what Charles Farquar mentioned, is the alternative to XX in my mind.

Great thread! :-D

I was just throwing stuff out there in regards to the XX.

I was thinking the Rocket motion as a complete decoy (the guy in motion doesn't even touch the ball). Empty set. Run it like the Tackle trap or sally play underneath the rocket and have a second wing take the hand off from the wing on the side to which the rocket motion was run.

Just trying to have some fun on here.

The rocket series can be stopped if the defense has the offense out athleted or if the offense does not execute well.

I watched a game this past fall where a team tried to run the rocket sweep, but they couldn't do it well because the rocket man was taking the pitch at 8 yards deep and they were definitely out athleted.
