Why hasn't West tried to officially change their name to The Siders?

Good luck to your Senators/Siders. Hopefully we'll see each other again for the regional title.

Name change was brought up during the move to the new high school.
Siders was being eliminated, however during my high school days. Alumni said it was offensive and wouldn't allow it, so we just put West on everything.

Some names brought up in the consideration that went no where:
Senators
Siders
Ravens (since the new school is across from Raven's Rock and sits on the old location of Raven's Rock Raceway)

Ultimately Czar Pat won and Senators remain.

I think the new alumni should stand up and decide.

Im a sider fan and never say much on here but im telling all u people out their that think we will steamroll these guys are in for a rude awakening. This team if i remember correctly was beaten by Wheelersburg last yr at the burg 21-13 i believe with this same group of kids. If west takes them lightly and think they can just show up and when this game then trust me we will be the 1st number 1 seed sitting at the house come week 2. So i will just make a suggestion to those already looking at sites for week 2 u better worry about this game first. Thats always been the problem with west side people and again im one of them but instead of talking about this week they not all but some want to worry about next week. Thats why u hardly ever hear anyone from the burg or from ironton ever talking a game a week or 2 away, they play them 1 at a time. The difference between west and those 2 specific programs is they are used to doing this year in and year out where as west and every now and then an east or minford get in. Thank god for the teams down here that represent us year in and year out because west noe anyone else does it that often, so sorry for rambling but had alot built up inside that needed to be said by a westside alumni who just keeps it real so on that note good luck to all the area teams and like i said west just worry about ridgewood they r a very good team.

I think West wins the game, just a little closer than they think. Burg struggled with their running game last year and it sounds like there running gamer is alot better this year. Burg scored a TD right before the half on a two play drive that was the difference in the game. Ridgewood will come ready to play but West needs to send them packing back North with an "L"

I dont think West is looking past onyone, they know its one and done now. I know that a few posters might be looking ahead but the team isn't.

If I'm not mistaken Ridgewood was a fairly young team last season when they traveled to W'Burg. Solid running game, very physical and strong kids. Alot like West this season. This could be a dandy matchup week 1 for the Senators. They must stay focused after the huge win last Friday as Ridgewood will come ready to play. Good Luck West Week 1.

good post. I've been trying to tell people not to look past this team. They may be as good as anyone we've played. They were good last year and gave Burg all they wanted with a young team. From 01 to 02 we as West fans ought to know how a team can grow up, get a low seed and advance. If it get's out in the community that this will be an easy game (which it won't) there won't be near the crowd support that there would be otherwise. We need the place rockin Saturday. The crowd to me Friday, was dissapointing. Survive and advance.

I agree 100%. We CAN NOT overlook this team. I just hope Coach T pounds this into the kids heads all week.
I also agree with siderman about getting the place rocking this sat! We r the rock for goodness sakes, lets sound like one!! lol
I think everyone coming into the stadium needs some kind of noise maker in their hand! Siderman, can you take care of that for me...some ppl have to work...lol

If that is true about the cake, jsut goes to show don't count your chickens before they hatch. That is just to funny and then West beat them.

Did they send the cake overseas like they do the Superbowl shirts that they make up for each team and then have to do something with the shirts of the losers, so they send them overseas. It is funny when you are watching those hunger relief shows and you see a shirt on a young boy that says superbowl chanps and it is the team that lost the year before.

This game is going to be a very good, tough contest. Every team in the playoffs are a threat. They are all good teams. Don't let seeds fool you. West was a #7 seed in 2002.
