Jottings, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Taylor broke the record for most field goals in a season last night. I think Hannan had the record. Check on that for me if you could. Congrats Blue Devils on an exciting win last night and lets get ready to show the Ironmen what we are made of!! And way to go Drew Man and Boko!! Great game last night. I am very proud of the young men you all have become.

I'll have to check on Hannon's field goals in one season, but records through 2003 had Jim Slone and Jeremy Payton tied with four field goals each, one in 1992 by Slone and once in 1999 by Payton. Taylor now has seven out of 11 for an apparent new single season mark. Most field goals in career is eight, by Tim Slone in 1990, 91 and 92.

GAHS83 wrote:Some questions that will decide the outcome:

Can the Blue Devils consistently pressure Leffingwell? I don't think Warren is going to beat GA running the ball. The Blue Devil D is just too stout up the middle. If Warren is going to succeed, they're going to have to throw it around. Given enough time Leffingwell, Fivecoait and company will pick the D apart. The key is going to be to not give them time and to be physical at the line of scrimmage with the receivers to throw off initial route timing.

The other thing on D is going to be open field tackling. We've had VERY few teams sustain drives on our D. I can only really remember two and both were early in the year. Most of the scores have been big plays where we miss a tackle and just don't have the speed to catch anyone in the open field. If the receivers make a catch, we've got to get them down early.

Can the Blue Devils ground and pound on offense and chew up the clock? Two weeks ago against Chillicothe, the offense was excellent and we dominated the clock. Last week, we started out well, but Portsmouth made some adjustments in the second half and we didn't have any corresponding adjustment and were lucky to get out of there with a win. The best way to beat a prolific offense is to keep the ball away from them. Time of possession needs to be drastically in GA's favor in order for them to come out of there with a win.

Good luck to the Blue Devils!
Either WL coaches didn't read, or ignored your 'scouting report' on the Blue Devil "up the middle" defense. When faced with a 2nd and goal on the one, they tried to run "up the middle" three straight downs and did not score!!!

Taylor has kicked seven field goals this year to set the GAHS one-year school record for most FGs in history. Old mark was 5, by Ty Hannon during the 2009 campaign.

Tim Slone still holds the most field goals kicked in a career--eight--set in the 1990, 1991 and 1992 campaigns.
