Re: athens
charles ... Burrow has lived in Athens for awhile ... moved here in elementary school, played little league baseball in Athens, middle school sports, etc ... etc ... has basically grown up with the kids around him.
It's not like the situation you had in Jackson where the player moved from Wellston his senior year just to play QB for the Ironmen ... or Nelsonville-York having Austin North, Joey Young and D.J. Young move in their junior and senior years.
And where was Jordan Kidd? I don't remember him playing freshmen or sophomore basketball at Vinton County?

Re: athens
Bigie Smalls- c'mon brother...
Athens had established winning programs while a member of the SEOAL...although football had been down after the '04 season, try to tell me that their was a better SEOAL game in the 2000's in Football, better than the 2003 Battle Between Athens and Jackson...
Since joining the TVC, we have seen a group of athletes who have been familiar with winning...the timing was a match made in heaven...
We have been blessed with a group of student-athletes who have been successful their entire life, and have busted their tails to keep that success in High School. They now battle for TVC trophys insted of SEOAL trophies but the bigger goal in all the sports is on Post-Season Success...
Everyone on here thumped their chest saying how the TVC was a step down for Athens and that it would thwart any chance at winning in the post-season...
That Myth has been shattered and then some...
This group of athletes and teams have won some championships, but the bigger rewards has been the post-season success...
Football - Sweet Sixteen
Boys Basketball - Sweet Sixteen
Girls Basketball - Sweet Sixteen
Wrestling sent 5 boys to the States...
Track & Field looks to send many gifted athletes deep into their individual events
Baseball & Softball are next...
NOW, in the post-season you play teams as close in size as possible in the given Division break down...
Its not like Athens has been playing Division 6 teams in the post-season...
I gotta ask their Bigie Smalls what is bugging you more?
Athens winning League Titles or
Athens winning Post-Season Games...
Because when you step back and take a look, you look like someone who just likes to bash, which is ok...whatever helps you sleep at night!
The truth of the matter is, for once in a very long time, ALL the ATHENS PROGRAMS have solid coaches, tenured Coaches who have built outstanding programs.Programs that know how to win and winning breads winning. One programs success builds another..and you just can't get over the fact that Athens is winning...

THANKS CHUCK YOU get it.Charles Farquar wrote:Comparing Vinton" COUNTY "to Athens " CITY" school district is like comparing apples to oranges. Yes some kids in the Athens district may live outside the city limits , but nothing like Vinton County. Some Vinton County Kids spend almost two hours commuting one way to school everyday, yes their numbers may be close but it is not the same situation. Kids are closer parents can afford to get them to after school activities. Say what you want but the difference in where the majority of students live in the school district gives a numbers advantage, especially in the opportunities in minor sports. Also I doubt if Vinton would have the opportunity to have a move in quarterback because of a parent at OU like the one Athens has. I don't think you could argue that he made a crucial difference and has been instrumental in the success they had in football the past year.
THEY are BLIND and will never understand,, until the TVC brings in some bigger schools and splits into a level playing field, Athens will continue to fill their trophy cases...
Questionmark the fact that you have stooped to name calling tells me alot about your thought processes...........

Re: athens
Seeing as I am still a moderator - I have to read lots of other threads involving different schools and leagues ... and it just cracks me up knowing their leagues have a similar set-up, yet I hear absolutely no gripping or complaining like I see about the TVC ...
The SEOAL ... You have Logan, which has a whopping 299 more boys than Portsmouth - and even 122 more boys than the 2nd biggest school in its league (Warren) ... yet I hear nothing about numbers coming from them.
The MVL ... You have Tri-Valley, which has another whopping 246 more boys than Crooksville - and at least 100 more boys than every school in the league besides Sheridan ... yet they don't complain.
The MSL ... You have Teays Valley, which has 230 more boys than Amanda, 162 more than fairfield Union, 161 more than Logan Elm.
The SOC II ... Waverly has 127 more boys than South Webster ... still, I never see the Jeeps complain about the numbers and blame losing on it.
The TVC ... Athens has 26 more boys than Vinton County ... 88 more than Meigs ... the difference between the largest school (Athens) and the smallest (NY) is only 146 boys!!! You have a much larger gap in the SEOAL, MVL and MSL.
Yet, all the whinning, crying and complaining seems to center around Athens and the TVC ... when in fact, the other leagues in southeastern Ohio have a larger disparity in enrollment ... I mean, almost every single league has a gap in numbers ... even in the OVC Fairland has a 100 more boys than Coal Grove ... its a common theme.
So the more important question is: why so much attention paid to Athens and the TVC? Where is the anamosity coming from? It must go beyond numbers because the TVC is just 'average' in terms of its enrollment gap compared to all leagues in the area.

Re: athens
How about some more 'fun facts' to ponder ...
Tournament/playoff success:
* PORTSMOUTH, the smallest school in the SEOAL, plays the big boys all season long - gets to the DIII tournament in basketball - and makes the STATE FINALS last year and the semi-finals the year before.
* CROOKSVILLE, the smallest school in the MVL uses the tough competition all season and ends up in the district championship game this winter at the Convo.
* AMANDA, the smallest school in the MSL is the one team in the league that has the 'football pedigree' with numerous playoff wins and state championships to boot.
* NELSONVILLE-YORK, the smallest school in the TVC-Ohio has more playoff appearances the last 20 years than all schools in its league combined.
* SOUTH WEBSTER, the smallest school in the SOC II carves up the DIV competition in basketball, wins a district championship and makes it to the Elite 8 this winter ... and they have that tournament success quite often on the hardwood.
* VALLEY, the 2nd smallest school in the SOC II ... all they did was make it to the Elite 8 in football the last two years!
* WHEELERSBURG, the 3rd smallest school in the SOC II ... all they did was WIN A STATE title on the baseball diamond last spring.
lets take a look at some of our state champs/state runner-ups from the southeast district:
SOUTH WEBSTER - STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPS - smallest school in their league.
OAK HILL - STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPS - 4th smallest school in their league.
ALEXANDER - STATE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPS - 2nd smallest school in their league.
WHEELERSBURG - STATE BASEBALL CHAMPS - 3rd smallest school in their league.
PORTSMOUTH - STATE RUNNER-UP - smallest school in their league.
* my oh my, those poor little schools, their enrollment doesn't math up - they are at such a disadvantage ... lol
* The reason I don't see or read these teams complaining about enrollment figures is because they have embraced the idea of playing in a league with larger schools ... they have witnessed first hand the benefit of playing in such a league ... they have realized it is much more fun to see their teams excel in the tournament/playoffs ... Federal Hocking, Belpre - the two largest schools in the Hocking - may have won the last two basketball league titles but they were bounced from the tournament in the SECTIONALS .... they were tossing the baseball around the gym while teams like Meigs and Crooksville got to enjoy the fun of playing in the district tournament at the Convocation Center ... this happens year in and year out with numerous teams and leagues all over Ohio.

Re: athens
I was referring to the advantages Athens has IN THE LEAGUE.............................
Now since you like fun facts do a little research and find out how many of the smallest schools, in their respective league, get the all sports trophy and MAYBE then you will see that the largest schools have advantages especially large City Schools.
Oh and ?FART it really is easier.............thanks
Class dismissed..................

All sports trophies ... lol ... I have never even kept track of who wins that thing ... couldn't even tell you who won it last year ...
I would ask those smaller schools who won their "all-sports-trophy" - but I doubt anyone would know ...

MAYBE THEN YOU WILL SEE WHERE THE ADVANTAGES ARE...................
OH and I already know the answer

Whatchya think ?FART are you up to the given task?????????

Who gives a hoot about the all-sports trophy...
I don't think I've seen schools wearing All-Sports Championship T-Shirts...
93 I think you struck a nerve...
No League is perfect, we do not live is a perfect world...I bet BHI that you are one of those people who want to give ribbons to everyone for participating?
The TVC is in great shape, and everyone who bashed it for years just can't GET OVER IT!

Yea, I'm not sure what BIGHIT wants them to do ... even 'IF' the larger schools have more league titles - there is nothing that can be done about differences in enrollment ... every school isn't going to have the exact number of kids (obviously) and leagues are based on geography ... there is going to be 'big schools' and 'small schools' - that's just how it is - and always will be.

When he is offered intelligent debate he just makes the same smart*ss comments.

I do think it is fair to say Athens does have an advantage in caertain sports (track, wrestling, golf ect...), but haveing Athens in the TVC has been great. It should have happened 15 years ago.

BHI - I love history...if I could locate all the assine information you so desire I would for educational purposes...
Mostly, because I believe it would most likely be very similar across Leagues give or take exceptional programs like Ironton and Nelsonville-York who find their enrollment of the latter end of the spectrum and still compete annually...
I don't know what else to say other than guys like BHI and Paladin seem to 'Love to Hate' the South Eastern Ohio Leagues for reason nobody knows...
Orange and Brown...how did Coach Dicken and the Nelsonville-York Baseball team fair in their Baseball Double Header Saturday?

What I have stated;
Big Fish small pond.........
Athens has distinct advantages .........
That's it,, you all have spun it off as direct slams.....
I think the League needs to take a serious look at expanding and evening things out a bit...........
All I get in return are facts that have no correlation to the topic, and name calling. WOW what a great bunch to associate with.
I also found that grouping me with Paladin was an extremely low blow
U POSsibly hit a new low ?FART>>>>>>>
